Awesome campground, so glad I found this one. It is about a 40 minute drive to Arches but the savings is well worth it compared to the closer campgrounds at $60-$110 a day! Very nicely laid out and the sites are about 100' long. Great water pressure but high so use a regulator and no bad taste, power is right on que. They are working on an addition for 21 more sites. If you love to ride BLM land is only a 1/4 mile away, and 5 miles into BLM is Sego Canyon with rock art dating supposedly to 7000 BC. There is art all over on both sides of the road. Respect the private property though and take your pictures from the road. Also we were here in early October and my dog sniffed out a rattle snake so be careful of plowing through grass, this one was snuggled up under a bush minding its own business. Just be careful. Oh and the view around the park is awesome with huge tall mesa's. Some trains at night and a couple a day are amtrak. I would definitely come back to this park, the folks running it are super friendly. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Motorhome.

I have stayed at this park before so I was familiar with it. Staff was curious. Water pressure is high so have a regulator with you. Bathrooms are individual rooms with toilet, sink and shower. Washer and dryers are available for $4 a load. The wifi does not work at all and was very frustrating. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Motorhome.

Management super friendly, provided us with information on local area. Located about 30 miles north of Moab; close to several Southern Utah National and State Parks.

Cable TV with several channels; also clear view if Southern sky so excellent Dish Satellite reception. Sites are 120' long so plenty of room for 5th Wheel & Truck with room left for set up of Canopy and BBQ area. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Fifth Wheel.

Easy location for Arches . Beautiful restrooms and showers... best we have seen. Laundry is expensive. Nothing close by other than a 7-11. Enjoyed staying here over bring in Moab. Moab is fun and close by. Don’t miss going to see the Petroglyphs that are close by. Map in the office. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The park is located a mile off I-70, about 40 miles north of Moab. It is all-gravel, with very long sites, no shade, and all FHU. Utilities were good (water pressure high), and Wi-fi about average (ok for text, a few images, but don't try any videos). The CATV had 12 channels, not sharp images, but adequate. Verizon cell signal at maybe 1 bar (drive back to I-40 and get 3 bars). Three (3) nice bathroom/shower rooms, good laundry. No clubhouse or other amenities. The town of Thompson Springs consists of 1 gas station, a 7-11 store, 2 RV campgrounds, a few houses, and DOT terminal. That's it. Nearest actual town with stores, etc. is Moab. Occasional train passing, not frequent. Price was reasonable. I can recommend the place, if you are ok with its remote location, no-frills, or are travelling along I-70 and need a good stopover spot. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

They gave us a map of some local sights - the town flourished briefly during the early 1900s for mining, and there are some "ghost town" remains up the road in to Thompson Canyon, some good pictographs on Canyon walls, a small arch, and old cemetery.

Overall Rating:

This is one of the nicest parks I've seen located in such small area, I'm not even sure it's a town. The sites are gravel and wide enough, and very long so that you could fit a large Class A with a long utility trailer. Utilities were fine, but water pressure was high, there are signs stating to use a regulator. People in the office were great, we mostly talked with Dave, who was very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area, he couldn't have been nicer. The rest rooms and showers were wonderful and very clean. There are laundry machines available, gratis!, and they all look new! They also have little cottages for rent here. I'm not sure what else could be done to make it nicer. Maybe shade trees - but this is the desert! We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Moab is about 30 miles away. Arches National Park and Canyonland National Park is just north of Moab and a "must see" if you're in the neighborhood. There are canyons nearby for 4wheelers, although a car or truck would be fine in most places. Antelope have been seen wandering around the area. This is a beautiful area to explore!

Utilities worked well, however, they were further apart then my sewer hose could reach. Sites are gravel and fairly level. Overall park was quiet and good for an overnight stay. We camped here in a 40' motorcoach. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Park was basic with no frills whatsoever. Laundry was one washer and one dryer located in the office. Old car out front with manikins inside was catchy and made for cool photos. Site was on the end, very long and we could have fit two rigs in side by side. The manager was extraordinarily helpful with information about the Sego Canyon Petroglyphs and Pictographs (as featured on Ancient Aliens), an abandoned mine operation and Sego Canyon Ghost Town that were right up the road. Thompson Springs itself is a ghost town with just a gas station at the highway exit (park is easy on and off to I90). We took photos of storms rolling in, and may have captured a UFO in one of the shots! Beautiful Book Cliffs behind the park made for great sunsets, and the adjacent fields were great places to walk the dogs and we regularly sited pronghorn antelope and prairie dogs near the park. All was was quiet and peaceful. Moab was just half an hour away. Only real negative is that the cable TV was TERRIBLE, with nothing but snowy pictures and garbled sound. Positives far outweighed the negative. Loved this place, especially for the rate. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Motorhome.

I came across this RV park by accident but glad I did. I also got lucky to get a site without a reservation. The staff here were work hosts and extremely nice. Very helpful with any questions I had about the area. If you are an ATVer there are some great trails right from the Park as well. They have a washer and dryer in the office building where the restrooms and showers that are free for any guest to use. Sites are very level, wide and long pull through sites. All sites are full hook up with either 30 or 50 amp. Showers are very clean as well. All gravel but well maintained, level and there are cabins available as well. I would highly recommend and will return. Much more reasonable fees than Moab parks and only 30-35 minutes from The Arches. They will tell you that they have high water pressure so don't forget your regulator. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Motorhome.

Nice little park, not many sites and most seem to be filled with residents or work campers all with neat sites. Extremely long pull thrus with shared facilities. Even tho facilities are shared, you have to pull up the "front" of your site to reach facilities and the one next to you is pulled to the front of theirs so you hardly see your neighbor, if this makes sense. All good gravel. We saw lots of rv's turned away so make a reservation. I'd definitely go back and stay longer. We camped at Ballard RV Park & Vacation Rentals in a Motorhome.

Remnants of old Ghost town 1/2 block. 3 or so miles on up road is Sego Canyon with several rocks featuring Indian rock art. Also an old dirt dwelling. Worth the short drive! Can be a bit muddy/rough on areas where a stream ran thru the road.
