Located just off Interstate 81, this campground is nicely situated for exploring the Shenandoah Valley. The park is fairly new so all utilities are in good repair. The interior roads are easy to navigate and the camp store has a cafe and all your basic needs. On the plus side, they offer recycling on site (except glass). Just down the road is Shenandoah Caverns and there is a cute covered bridge nearby. Unfortunately, the interstate is in your backyard so expect a lot of truck noise. - Tessa & Toadee on the Road

Really close to the highway, and I think we got the flattest most level site (B3) in the park. A few pull throughs, but overall, you're in a mountainous area, expect sloping sites and plan accordingly. Small trees are growing, but there is no shade. There is a lovely small dog park, again, about 50' from a busy interstate highway I-81. If traffic noise bothers you, request a site away from the highway side. There is a beautiful small vegetable garden, with sunflowers growing. Gravel smooth interior roads, water pressure is good, but electricity has fluctuated. Our Auto-former has adjusted it for our coach, but other people have had difficulties with low voltage triggering shutdowns in their systems. Customer service here is wonderful, though, there is a small pool, a snack bar with reasonably-priced offerings, and a small camp store. Lovely location in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley - a fun jumping off point to explore. - DebbieT in Alabama

Owners and staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. All amenities very clean especially the pool and shower/restrooms. We stayed over 4th of July weekend and they had several activities for both children and adults. Some reviews mention highway noise but, it could not be heard inside. Our site and most sites level, some you will need blocks. Can't wait to return. - firemedicmark

This is one of our very favorite campgrounds. We've always given it a 9 or 10 rating; unfortunately, this time we can not. The place is as nice & secluded & quiet as ever, even more so this time, as there were few campers. But the strangest things had to do with the volunteers, there seemed to be very little volunteer activity or presence; in fact, when the weekend campers left on Sunday morning, so did the volunteers, leaving their RV's in place. This gave me the impression that the locals were using the volunteer sites as a free summer long camp sites. There was certainly enough work to be done, as the place had the appearance of not being ready to open. A few problems; 1. No one on the gate, or even came around to see if you were registered. 2. The potable water fill had obviously been frozen & the valve was split, leaking badly, but I wouldn't put that water in my tank any ways as it more resembled chocolate milk. It apparently hadn't been flushed after the winter. 3. One of the 3 shower bldgs. had no hot water, another had NO water on the men's side, (hot or cold). 4. The bathrooms in the picnic & beach areas weren't even unlocked. The hikes around the area were as great as ever, & the pond & lake were beautiful as always. We will be back, but hope they get things taken care of. - bukhrn
Aug 2011 - $11.00
This was our 2nd trip to this national forest campground; it certainly will not be our last. Our site was pretty level & wide. We love this fully wooded, quiet & peaceful place. It is truly unfortunate that Trout Pond itself is drained, but Rock Cliff Lake is as beautiful as ever. As said previously, if you're looking for somewhere with a lot to do, (other than nature) this may not be the place for you. The roads into the area are narrow, hilly, & winding, but completely do-able with a little common sense. The bathrooms & showers are clean & functional. While there is not an actual pool, there is a very nice sandy swimming area at the lake. There is a nice picnic area & playground. - bukhrn

I have camped here since I was little. I have always enjoyed coming over here as everyone is very nice and friendly. Bathrooms are clean! Sites are well spaced and in private area. Very secluded place. Great place to swim in pond. Very clean beach area with grassy area to sit away from sand. Tent area has small gravel, great for tent camping. Great play area for kids with a volley ball net to play. Lights out is strickly enforced along with gate closing after hours. Someone always available to help you if needed. Very cheap rates, a great value! - mom3

Sweeet little family campground right beside the river that runs through this historic and adorable little town! The campground isn't high on landscaping or amenities, BUT DOES have CABLE and GREAT CELL PHONE service! Fishing on the creek is fun (didn't catch any keepers, but still relaxing), the campground is pretty quiet, small number of sites. Our only real complaints were the strange placements of utilities. The water was far at the front of the space, the neighbors septic was literally right beside our picnic table, our space was too tight to extend the awning (but we were ok with that). - ginger2you
Apr 2019 - $35.00
Nice cozy campground. Hosts very friendly and helpful. Forget cable because its a complicated system that you have to wire up. Got a few OTA channels. No camp store and but they have ice. Site was on the creek which was nice. Gravel pull through. Very good access from I81. Follow signs from highway to campground to avid a one lane bridge with weight restriction. Follow signs from the road not your GPS directions. - Nh rvers
Apr 2019 - $37.00
This is a very nice small campground but not for large motorhomes IMHO. Our lot was off creek side and to level our 43' our front wheels were 8" off the ground. The rig two sites down also was off ground in 40 footer. Power is either 30 or 50 amp depending on site. Staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. No TV, cable or Dish (trees). WIFI was just OK. Don't follow GPS to site, follow signs which staff told us about on booking. You'll see why! Stayed two nights and never used their facilities so can't rate them. We won't stay again only because of size of motorhome. - Fireairdrop839

Sep 2019 - $44.00
Beautiful park with well maintained sites. We enjoyed walking up to the back of the meadow above the pond to watch the sunsets. Be aware that the perimeter trail is listed as moderate but it is very steep in some places and we were glad we'd taken our poles. We would definitely stay here again. - Melissa Koppenhaver
Jul 2019 - $50.00
Had a lovely time there camping! Our site was level and relatively private. We watched fireworks set off in the nearby town for the 4th of July from the parking lot of the campground. The campground supplied information about nearby firework displays. It's a lovely area with lots of things to do. If you plan to use bathhouse/ laundry ask for site close by... we had a bit of a hike! Be prepared for fees... they had a lot ! But overall worth it! - Beverly Fernandes

The CG entrance off RT 211 is easily accessible and obviously posted. The staff was polite, professional, and informative. The CG is only 10 years old so the trees are small, offer little shade, and no privacy between sites. Its easy to navigate in a large RV. Additional pull thru sites with cement pads are under construction. The CG roads and sites are 3/4" grey chip stones. We were in site 17 in a 40' motorhome. Our rear wheels were off the ground to achieve level. The water quality was good and pressure sufficient. They also rent 3 cabins and a house. The bathhouse, constructed with cinder block walls and concrete floors, is clean & plain. Beware: CG cancellation policy is strict! We stayed for 7 days. They processed our CC for the full price ($586.79) when the reservation was made. Cancellations less than 30 days in advance will forfeit 50% total. Cancellations occurring less than 4 days from arrival will forfeit 100% total. $586.79, half or full is an unacceptable penalty for a cancellation! I could not award this CG with a 10 due to my site (17) being grossly out of level and their unreasonable cancellation policy. - AT Jersey
Oct 2018 - $55.00
Part of what you're paying for here is location, which is great. We stayed here in a 40 foot motorhome and interior roads easy to navigate. Easy in/out, friendly staff, well maintained property, clean bathhouse. Great location for exploring Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns, and also nice to sit at the campsite and look out at the mountains on both sides of the valley. No privacy between sites, you're pretty exposed from all angles and our site could use some leveling work. But this didn't detract from our overall stay. Walmart, grocery and other stores right up the road. T-Mobile didn't work here but our Verizon cell and mifi worked great. This is a true campground with transient traffic. We heard some road noise when we were there during the day, but very quiet at night. They also have some very nice looking cabins (from the outside), a nice tent area, and a trail along the river. We would stay here again. Rate reflects weekly rate. - Roaming Together

Nice campground with nice walking areas. No internet. Firewood had to be bought there but did not burn well.
Site flooded from the rain. Staff came immediately to dig trenches to help water drain.
Nice primitive sites as well as RV sites. - PamelaA
