We just showed up and they had a place for us. In fact, the park was not very full as the season is over. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. Really just an open field with water and electric. Pick your spot and they are very spacious. We did not have neighbors on our one night stay. The bathroom/showers are in the pavilion building near the ballpark. They are also used by Appalachian Trail hikers if any are in town--none were here during our stay. If there was a ball game or event, the bathrooms would not be enough to service the campground. However, we had mostly larger units and very few people using the bathrooms/showers. They were a little older, but clean and adequate. Our site was adjacent to the river. It had rained recently, so the grass/dirt combo site was a little muddy, but firm enough that we didn't sink in when walking on it. The town (Buena Vista) had grocery shopping and restaurants available. We would stay here again. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice city park. Next to a river. They have ball fields so when we stayed a lot of locals were tailgating for the games. One area has sewer but no wifi. We decided to get wifi instead of sewer. Planning on staying on our way back from Philly. We stayed three nights. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We called a few days ago and found out they do not take reservations but had plenty of space. We were a little concerned but had Plan B. Parking was in a field with 4 rigs per electric post. No problem, there were 3 other rigs besides ourselves. Check in was great, fast, efficient. We were told just to go to the field and find a place. The filed probably could handle 100+ rig plus there are sites along the edges with woods behind them. We were here only for overnight so we parked for an easy exit. Easy to get to of I81, good directions, streets and turns no problem. We will tell our friends about this little gem...................... We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Motorhome.

This was a great location close to Blue Ridge Parkway, Natural Bridge, Lexington and the Appalachian Trail. We took day trips to Appomattox and Monticello. This is an old plantation, so it was very nice. Apparently it can be crowded, but not while we were there. There is an ice cream shop and snack bar on site. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed three nights and had no problems We put covers over our bedroom windows due to street lights all along the road. We could have moved a little farther in and wouldn't have had to cover the windows. The water should be flushed before hooking up, a little rusty for just a minute or less. Water pressure good and no problems with the electric, no sewer at sites. It rained quite a bit over night and we didn't have any trouble getting out. You even get a discount on the ice cream. We would/will stay here again. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a town park that you can stay overnight in, not a regular campground. Less than a mile from the center of town, when you arrive you will find a large paved parking lot with a park office to the left. In front of the office is an ice cream stand, which was open till 9PM even in mid October on a weeknight. Next to that is a dump station, restrooms with showers, not terribly new and in average condition. Understand that these facilities are used by all visitors to the park, not just those staying overnight, and if you like some privacy while taking a shower you will not find it here. Behind these buildings is a large grass field with baseball diamonds at either end. A road runs through the middle that carries a fair amount of local traffic to some other buildings behind the field. There are also tennis courts and a large picnic pavilion. Local people will drive onto the grass and let their dogs out to run during the day. At night there were deer grazing. There were no numbered spaces, just scattered electrical boxes and water spigots, you just find a place you like and settle in. Evidently they have concerts and other events here. Next to the office is a road that runs a mile or so up a hill to a public pool complex, and right next to that is another camping area that does look like a regular campground with numbered spaces, water and electric, another bath house with showers, and another dump station. It is nicely wooded, but is just open to anyone to wander in, there is no gate or real separation, at the end of the road you just drive in. I arrived at the end of the day and was assigned to the field, had I been allowed to choose I would have gone up to the wooded area, but as it turned out it was fine, I planned to stay one night and ended up staying two. I was able to get up to the edge of the field under the edge of the trees and enjoy the view of the mountains that look over the town. Good Verizon phone and data. I would stay here again. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It is maybe a mile walk into the little town, definitely not a tourist destination, just a typical rural western Virginia town. There are several restaurants, I ate at the Italian one as someone else suggested and would recommend it.

Great overnight stop. We cringe at paying big $$ for a one night stay but this is quite the opposite. Easy to find the park from I-81. Streets through town were wide and no issue for motorhome and tow. We parked in the wide oval grass area and had great spacing from our nearest neighbor. Open skies in the middle of the field so DirecTV not an issue. Best wifi we've had at a city park! Grass mowed and well maintained grounds. Will stay here again! We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Motorhome.

The sites were essentially in an open field, but all we really wanted was electric hookup so we could have A/C (we had planned to boondock at the Walmart in Staunton but it was too warm to go without A/C). There were some townsfolk whom we met walking through the city park who were nice and told us about a concert going on at the pavilion at the end of the park. Our site was spacious because there was almost no one else in our section of the park. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Motorhome.

We had planned to stay 2 nights in a full hookup site. When we arrived, the office was closed for the weekend, there was no information about where the full hookup sites were. We pulled our 40' fifth wheel up into an area where full hookups were supposed to be. The sewer hookup on the only site that might have accommodated our unit was buried in mud. The interior roads were very narrow and partially blocked by other trailers. We never found the dump station. The water and electricity only camping in the meadow below was very water-logged. Not the place to stay after a long day of driving. We left to stay elsewhere. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I enjoyed this campground owned by the city on Buena Vista. There are two areas to camp. One in a large field and one up the hill near the pool. Near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Very easy in and out with a motor home. They do have a dump station. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Motorhome.

We chose this park after we decided not to stay at another park where we had made reservations. After the aggravation we encountered at the other park, this park was just what we needed to unwind and decompress. Office staff was superb. We stayed overnight in a 38 foot fifth wheel, water and electric (50 amp) hookup. Our site was in the lower camping area, "out in left field" (camped in the outfield of the baseball field), shaded, spacious, very nice set up. Nice city park, very beautiful setting with Paxton House being restored, deer roaming through, and huge covered pavilion for music events. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park has a beautiful view. We stayed in the upper section. Sites are very difficult to get into because of narrow roads. They are not level and the hookups are in the strangest of places. Our site had the sewer hookup literally in the middle of the pull site - I mean the middle front to back and side to side. To use it we would have needed to crawl under our unit to hook up. All of the sites needed to be trimmed and cleared of leaves that were so deep we almost lost our dog. If you don't need sewer and are an expert at backing up in tight places, this place is good value for the dollar. We camped at Glen Maury Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lexington is less that 5 miles away. The park has a large pool that was not open while we were here, but could be a very nice attraction in the summer.
