We stayed here during the NHRA event June 8 and 9 2018. The campground was in great shape and everyone treated us like family. The improvment in this campground from previous ownership is amazing. The pool was excellent, the restrooms and showers were kept very clean. We plan on making this trip yearly and will be glad to stay here again. - Dalton Bennett

Large park, rental cabins, lot of tent space, pool, lake to enjoy small playground. Workers very friendly. Some spaces pretty tight, out site not level, interior roads need improvement. overnight pull thrus are long, curved and paved. Water lot of iron, can't drink it. Not all sites have sewer (surprise) they do pump out twice a week. We got about 12 OTA channels. WIFI was decent. - S A K

We parked in the very front, in what looked like new spots created for short stays. The laundry was just horrible and looked like it was never cleaned. We had no yard but stepped out of our trailer on uneven ground.
Appears to be more of a full time unkept trailer park. We located the dumpsters and it looked like a landfill. The only positive of the park was our view of the lake. Would not return or recommend to anyone. - Tjai Forster

We were here for just an overnight as it was fully booked for the weekend as there was a 48 hour running race going on. There are many trails for hiking and biking and it would be a good destination. A little to far removed from I-95 or I-64 for an overnight unless you are going between the two. The sites in the rear portion of the campground were paved. The front part (lower numbers) were gravel. A first class state park. They should all be this nice. - VtLee

There are two ways to secure a campsite. Reserve a "Site Specific" site on line, or just show up and drive around until you see one you like. Either way, most sites are large and private with good water and electric service. Cable TV and WI-Fi are not available. Verizon cell signal strength was good. We reserved site #71, which was level, very large and quite private. There was virtually no noise at night and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. There are many hiking and biking trails throughout the park, with a good selection of easy, moderate or difficult trails, including mountain bike and equestrian trails. Paddle boats, canoes and other non-power watercraft can be rented. Staff members were pleasant and helpful and check-in was easy and quick. We have designated this park as a favorite and we plan to return in the future when we can stay longer. - Revvie

Rating based on comparisons with other state parks we have used. A great state park! Huge, private sites. Large enough for any rig. Wooded with w/e, some 50 amp, and extra areas for large tent as well as RV. Mostly paved in back area, but some less than level. Front section mostly gravel. Bathhouses are individual rooms, an added plus. Dump station situated for use both going in or leaving the campground. Very easy hookups. Verizon worked perfectly. Outstanding personnel, from rangers at sign in to those who work around the park. Firewood easily available (at fair price) on the honor system. Campground itself is HUGE - many well marked trails, equestrian area too. Quiet and out of the way, but close enough for shopping, restaurants. Good location between Richmond and Petersburg. So much to do in the area =- history everywhere! Highly recommend. - pamhyatt1

Stayed 1 night. Site sloped side to side, very hard to level, dirt and sand, some gravel base. Cable had over 40 channels, over half unwatchable, others fuzzy, wi-fi worked well. Our site was beside entrance road to the park so loud all night. Definitely not worth the price, would not stay here again. - DBSnowbirds

The site was ok,except the sewer connection is located at the rear, we had 30ft of hose and not enough. We asked if we could borrow a used hose as we were there 4 nights, said they didnt have one. The campsites in the back are a dump, pool was green. Convenient to freeway and that is about all. An overnight is fine. - lwabend

This was a one night stop over while traveling North on I-95. The campground is about a quarter mile from the exit. The site was long enough that we did not have to unhook our 36 ft travel trailer. Site was level, we were able to get plenty of channels with just our antenna, water and electric were fine. They have a dog walk, but not a fenced in run. We would stay here again when in the area. - GCN56
