This a great state park. However, while they say the limit is 38', we are 36' and I would not recommend much longer. We had a new site and it was level for most of the site, but fell off at the far end near the road. With our rig, the front tires had to well off the ground in order to level. As noted, a 30 amp limit and it was OK for the time we were there. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

The Natural Tunnel is a must. Go down the road to Duffield where there is a new Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail information center. A great find.

We had intended staying at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park but it was first-come, first-served so we chose this park because we could reserve a site. Great choice. The sites are large, have a table, a fire-pit, a bear pole and are separated from others by trees and bushes. There are very clean bathrooms and a laundry. The sites have 50A electric and water but no sewer. We used the camp showers for 5 nights and found them large and clean with a large bench and several hooks. Some sites are on a slant and we had to back up this slant. But we are quite pleased with our site. But you can rent cabins and yurts with rockers on the decks looking out over the forest. Very nice. The park also has a large pool, a store, a chair lift, a gazebo with a wonderful view over the surrounding hillsides and quite a few trails. There is also the Natural Tunnel but you can't hike in it because trains still run through it. However, they offer a ranger led hike along a river bed (with crossings through the river) to the tunnel and through it when no trains are running. This park has so much to offer that we are glad that we opted to stay here. We drove 1 hour to Cumberland Gap, toured, hiked and then drove back here. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park is only 58 miles away 2/3 of the highway is 4-lane highway. This follows approximately the Wilderness Road. There are also some historical sites here: an old cabin, a blockhouse and other structures.

Stayed 4 nights in campground and had an awesome experience. This was the 1st camping trip we took our 6 year old grand daughter on. We stayed on the Lover's Leap loop where the sites are bigger and can be reserved. This park has very nice bath rooms that are very well maintained. The showers are private, outside entrance to 4 separate showers with lockable doors. Also had a nice laundry area. We have camped in GA, SC, NC and now VA. If this is a typical VA state park, then VA blows the other 3 states away. Great hiking trails. We did the birding trail which goes around the Block House and gazebo and it was our least favorite. It was hot and lot of it was not shaded. This is probably a good trail in the Spring in the early morning with wild flowers blooming and birds are more active. We did startle a resting deer and turkey, so that was good. Lover's Leap trail is really good and not too difficult. Rode the chair lift down to the tunnel. Nice short ride and most of it was not too high off the ground. You can hike down and then ride chair lift back up. Keep in mind, chair lift is not always operating and shuts down in the off season. If visiting the park, if at all possible, get down to the tunnel. It is awesome and once down is easy walking. Most people will focus just on the tunnel, take the time to visit the Cart Cabin as well, nice walk! Pool was nice and enjoyed 3 days of swimming. Though one life guard seem to be channeling Billy from Stranger Things, he appeared to think very highly of himself. :-) All the staff were great and there were a lot of Summer interns there. Lots of activities going on and free things they would set up for kids. Site 10, while not shaded, it probably the best site in the Lover's Leap loop. When set up, you could not see your neighbors on the one side or the bathroom on the other. Can't recall exact rate. We will go back! We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park was very well kept! Mowed, restrooms and showers cleaned daily. Laundromat was well kept. A+ We are FL RV'rs so when the ranger tells you the way up is a bit hilly but the right turn is steep - BELIEVE HER! Once we went up the hill (mountain in FL) and turned right into campground, it is STEEP, like straight up to the heavens - make sure your in low gear. The Natural Tunnel is a must see also. The local town is about 20 minutes away but is large. A short trip to Bristol is also a mustl. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Another great Virginia State Park, lots of things to see and do, but school has started and pool is only open on weekends, most of the programs are also on the weekends. Trails and the chairlift are open everyday. Nice touch was a paper that listed business nearby with direction and phone numbers. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park with large COE-ish sites and plenty of space between sites. Water & electric but no sewer at the site. Ours had trees and brush between sites on the side but the back butted to another site which was vacant. Lovers Leap loop is where we stayed #17. Great cell and hot spot (ATT) reception. Very clean, new shower house. Lovers Leap is the newer loop and the reservable site specific one. The Tunnel is worth seeing. Would definitely return if in the area. I will say I may have rose colored glasses as we stayed here after a week of primitive camping at Shenandoah. The campground is immaculate. Sites on the outer perimeter were widely spaced. Ours had brush/trees between it and the next site. Very quiet. The camp host wasn't around much but the rangers in the info station were very helpful. We went to the 'center' which was a beautiful log home-looking building and were able to use their FAST wi-fi. They also had wi-fi at the campground registration hut which I didn't realize until we were leaving. The tunnel was cool to see and the trails were nice, albeit short. There isn't much in the surrounding area but we would 100% stay here again if traveling through the area. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed in the Lover Leap Loop. Please note that starting March 2, 2018, these sites will be "site specific" reservation only. Not a lot of shade but more private than Cove View which is VERY OPEN and CLOSE TOGETHER. At this time of year sites 2, 3, 4, 10 and 12 in LL seemed to have the most shade in the pm (by 4pm) and the most privacy. My site didn't have shade until almost 6pm. Bathrooms the cleanest I've seen in a state park. Checked out Cove View as well. Bathrooms old but clean. Sites are pull thru and very close together (no privacy) but have more shade. There are 4 Yurts in this area. Did not go to the pool area but from a distance it looked nice but you must drive to it. There is a steep but short hill to get to both campgrounds. The chair lift ride to the tunnel is a must do. Got lucky and the train passed while we were there. It was AWESOME. The park staff do not know the train schedule due to security reasons after 9/11. Chairlift and pool passes are include in your stay. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If physically able to do so, hike the Stock Creek Trail which leads to the other side or exit of the tunnel. It's easy on the way down and moderate of the way back. One mile each way. Beautiful and up close views of the tunnel (can walk in a little way).

Natural Tunnel State Park is one of our favorite destinations. Everyone is friendly and the park is very well maintained. We stayed in the older Cove View section of the campground as the newer Lovers Leap section was already full by the time we made reservations. All sites have power and water hook-ups. There are no cable, WiFi or sewer hook-ups. Most major TV networks are available OTA. There is a large, attractive swimming pool in the park and pool passes are provided at check-in. This year the park has added four yurts in the Cove View section, very well appointed with large decks, but without power or water. The park also offers a number of cabins of various sizes. Restrooms and showers in both sections of the campground are very clean and well maintained. As noted in other reviews, the road to the top of the ridge where the campground is located is narrow and very steep, so gear down and be careful. Given the premium price but lack of premium amenities (sewer/cable/WiFi), our future visits to this park will be infrequent and short duration. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Another nice camp ground. We stayed in Lovers Leap section which is the newest part of the campground. This is one of the best laid out campground we have been to. Sites were level and roomy. Although we didn't use the shower/ restrooms/ laundry building, we went in to check them out. They were new, clean and very nice. Sites had fire ring, picnic table, and a small table great for holding plates and grilling utensils when grilling out. Natural tunnel was neat to see. Mostly a down hill hike to the tunnel from Lovers Leap section. The lovers leap trail goes around the rim of the gorge which gives you a great view. Hike back up was a little tough but if you take your time, it's not bad. They run a chair lift at certain times but only brings you back to the parking lot. It was super quiet when we were there. It's on our "A" list. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park has a lot of cool things to see and do. We walked from our campsite at Lover's Leap loop via the Gorge Ridge trail to Lover's Leap. This is a cool view of the Natural Tunnel and the site where the Cherokee maiden and a Shawnee brave jumped to their death according to signs at the site. From there, we continued down the Lover's Leap Trail down to the visitor center and chair lift area. The chair life and visitor center were both closed until April which meant the only way down to the tunnel was the Tunnel Trail. This trail is only 0.27 miles long and has many stairs and switchbacks making it doable for most. The Natural Tunnel and Stock Creek running along the side are truly worth the walk down and even worth the walk back up. We took the Gorge Ridge Trail back up from the visitor center parking lot which was easier and shorter than the route we took on the way down. Bath, shower and laundry facilities were clean and new. Our campsite was level and well maintained. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the Lover's Leap campground and think this is one of the best RV parks around. The State of Virginia, I am told, doesn't have sewers available at most sites, and that would be the only downside. One other point, you are camped on the top of the mountain, with the tunnel underneath you, and the road up to the top is a fairly steep grade. There is one short section extremely steep for several hundred feet. I would call it a 20% grade and we always disconnect for this final hill. This does seem to keep many of the larger big rig motorhomes, away from this park. We had a 40 ft. long rig and were able to make it, in first gear, going very slow, but just very steep on that one part. It's a lovely park and incredibly well-maintained. The original camp ground nearby is not paved, and not as level as the Lover's Leap. The state does allow use of the road going over the top to some dump trucks, and noticed a lot of them driving over the hill during the daytime. Just a little noisy, but it's not through the campgrounds, just near them. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

Big Stone Gap is a short drive to the North, a charming town where they filmed the movie. Saturday night shows at the Carter Family Fold in Hilton, Virginia, are a must for traditional bluegrass fans. We enjoy watching trains, but the coal business is down so much, we never saw a train near the Natural Tunnel in a whole week. wonderful hiking trail system that can be accessed near the campgrounds. The tunnel overlook trail is a must!! Take the ski lift tram down to the tunnel.

This park is wonderful! The sites on Lovers' Leap loop are huge and very private. Many sites are completely surrounded by trees and natural privacy barriers and they are all ample in length and space. The park includes the Natural Tunnel exploration area which is a MUST-SEE. The chair lifts are convenient and fun, but not required. The walking trails down into the canyon and into the surrounding areas are easy to walk and provide great views. And the pool is massive! 12-Feet deep, diving board area, shallow. slides, childrens' area, and a large area for swimming. The park is gorgeous. The only reason I did not rate it a 10 is because there are no sewer hook-ups. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

Natural Tunnel State Park is a beautiful park with a wonderful campground. The Lover's Leap loop sites are spacious, level and easy to back into. The Natural Tunnel was a fantastic site to see. The $4.00 chair lift was well worth the price to access the gorge and board walk to the tunnel. Be prepared for some short steep hills to get to the campground.
