Oct 2019 - $35.00
This tiny campground is the perfect spot to stay a couple of days and ride the Creeper Trail, a 34 mile bike trail made from an abandoned railroad line. The campsites, all 7 of them, back up to a creek and are right off of the road. The owner will stop the traffic and help you navigate as you back into your site. The sites have full hook up with 30 amp power. As far as cell service, ATT in non existent here, but Verizon had 4 bars. The campsite has excellent wifi. The day we stayed our bike ride was canceled, we will be back to try it again. - On the Road Again with Dave and Christie

Quaint is the best word I can put to it. It's a very small campground right in town on the 'creek'. Damascus a cute town with walking trails, biking trails and beautiful scenery. The park is only about 6 sites backed up to the creek and they are tight. We are 39' 5th wheel and we felt squeezed in. Other than that it was a great place - quiet, clean and full of southern hospitality. Utilities are 30 amp (not 50), sewer & water and well placed and worked fine. - jomark
Sep 2019 - $35.00
Right in the heart of town with easy walking access to restaurants, park and Virginia Creeper. Numerous hiking trails accessible from the campground by foot. We enjoyed the ducks swimming in the creek and quiet streets at night. - Melissa Koppenhaver

The owner was very nice on the phone and told us it was first come, first served. No deposit required, there was no office to check in we were to call him when we arrived. He put us in the last spot on the Creek, spot A. He gave reservations away that another camper reserved due to an extra person showing up so he squeezed those campers in and the were literally 6 inches from us. They turned out to be very nice so we made it work but neither of us were happy. We felt like the owner was greedy, trying to make an extra buck. You have "X" number of spots. You cant rent more than you have, simple math. The last time we checked, there was no alphabet before spot "A". The campsite was in a very good spot, at the end of the Creeper trail but it is literally a gravel parking lot. Two steep gravel drives to pull out. If the owner is going to try to be so greedy in order to make a buck, he should spend some of the $$$ and at least pave. You should also know that you have to cross a short one lane bridge and you are behind his other rental property (houses). - Paula I

A really awesome place. The RV park itself is basic. 15 sites, located on a river, with full hookups. That's about it; no bathhouse, no office. But it's location, just over the river from Damascus, but with green forest and the sound of roaring rapids to sooth you...wow. Loved it. Biggest trick here is the REALLY steep gravel driveways down to the sites. Saw many rigs bottom out and scrape parts. The owners are not on site. There is zero ATT, although Verizon is ok from what we heard. The WiFi is solid though, so we were able to communicate adequately by e-mail, etc. Why do people come to Damascus, VA? Aside from the beautiful mountains, lush forests and mountain streams...apparently 200,000 folks a year come to ride the Virginia Creeper Trail. A 34 mile long former railroad bed has been converted into a destination bile path. Damascus is right in the middle of the trail and supports at least 6 bike shops that offer bike rentals and more importantly...shuttle service to the top of WhiteTop Mountain where you catch the trailhead for the upper section of the Creeper Trail. Mostly downhill, with some steep sections at the top, it's a thrilling and beautiful ride from 3700' to 2000' back in Damascus, crossing some 23 train trellises and following babbling brooks and roaring rapids. Lower half is 17 miles from Damascus to Abingdon. Much flatter, this section meanders along the river and thru some farm country. Green and pastoral a very relaxing and enjoyable ride. At about the 9 mile mark is the former train station of Alvarado, which has a very nice park by the river with picnic tables and restrooms. - Todd Hancock

Right on creek and next to VA creeper trail. Full hookups worked great. Quiet campground and great location. I would stay here again. - Nickncacki

This is a very unique campground. There are many campers here who rent for the full 7 months the campground is open. They also have a few other "monthly" sites and "nightly" sites. We were looking for a place to stay for a month so it was perfect for us. The charge for the month was $410. 67 plus electric. For an extended monthly stay like we wanted it is a great place and great value. The owner and manager were both very friendly and helpful. The "regulars" we met who have year round sites were all very friendly and they take care of their sites .This is a beautiful campground along the North Fork of the Holston River. The scenery doesn't get much better than this. I should also mention that they have 27 large sites right on the river with water and power which are great for tents or small campers or pop ups We had a Class A pulling a small car in and had no trouble on the road in although it is narrow in places. Certainly for an extended stay this is a great campground. - discus277
Jul 2019 - $38.00
Stayed one night. Lots of permanent sites. Scary road to the campground. Hookups were ok except for power. Between 105 and 110volts. Couldnt run A/C , surge puotector kept cutting it off. No other sites available. Lots of loud kids and adults. Not a safe feeling place. The office was filthy. I will not go back. - Liledoun
Jul 2017 - $36.00
We arrived late in the day at the beginning of a weekend. The road in was narrow and right next to the river. A little scary for the passenger when meeting an outgoing car. Fortunately the road was not busy that time of day. Campground was almost full; think we got the last site because someone's reservation was not honored. Since we arrived after hours had to find someone to check in. We were in a pull-thru spot; so did not have to unhook our tow. Lots of weekend campers and sites were very close together. - Texas E-S

The park doesn’t have many amenities but the people running it are extremely nice. It is very well lit and feels like a nice place to stay. There are also apartments at the park and the tenants are very nice. We stayed for a week while visiting our granddaughter at Emory college and liked it. - redfish122
Sep 2018 - $20.00
There are several campsites, back to back, with 30 amp electric service and water. While there is no WiFi regular reception for Hot Spots was strong. There is a laundry room with 2 washers and 1 dryer - good price: $1.25. There is a swimming pool but the water was green and not open. There is a camp store with quite a selection of junk food. This is a nice place to stop on the road if tired for the day, but not a destination as such... not bad for the money.
Not much to do here for Labor Day weekend - no sidewalks or paths for hiking, and roads too narrow to ride bicycles. No events noticed in either Marion or Chilhowie (the 2 nearest towns). Used the time to clean the inside of the rig (bathroom and floor), defrost the frig, transfer fotos from the cell to the computer, and played games on the computer... nothing else to do... - UncleSpot
May 2016 - $20.00
Convenient place for an overnight when traveling I-81. Most sites seem to have 30 amp only. They are really 2 backing sites end to end. It would have to be fairly empty to be able to pull thru. Pay internet is available through Xfinity at $7 per day. Verizon cell service is very strong so we used that. Mostly clear of trees so satellite works well. May have some power issues as the 5th wheel next to us was plugged into our outlet with a long extension. Since nomone was home, I moved his connection to his pedestal and used our marked outlet. - glenthompson

Oct 2014 - $38.00
We will camp here again. Start with 10, then -1 poor in campground signage, -1 poor campground roads, -1 poorly marked sites, -1 poorly marked/oddly spaced hookups, -1 web site says wi-fi, but only available at camp store, -1 bathhouse 1/4 mile from trailer camp, -1 too few showers/toilets,-1 wi-fi signal not dependable-tested .3 down, .1 up (megs) when working. +1 no night lighting in trailer camp. This is a unique campground. Beautiful night sky set on a wooded ridge and renting bikes @ $15 to ride trail. Very laid back guy around the store (managing or running is too strong). They prefer cash. Plenty of hot water for returning Creeper Trail riders. 6 of us rode trail while the 7th took our truck into town to return riders and bikes. Campground has bikes on demand for $15. Roads to camp are good. Roads in camp are poor and steep and narrow and begging for grading and stone. Sewer connections very difficult to find as grass grows over them. I found 3 sites with WES, there may be more. About 10 are WE. Hook up services good. Dump site is on the ridge, too. Sites are not assigned-pick your own. There is no check in procedure and no rules sheet. First priority is growing Christmas Trees. 2nd is tent camping near the store for lots of Boy Scouts and youth groups riding the trail. Third priority is trailer camping which is 1/4 mile away from camp store and tents. We did not see big rigs. Road layout allows always driving forward so if a big rig can handle the roads and hills, the campground can handle the rig. - Frank Rader
Jun 2012 - $35.00
This campground is located on the trail head of the Virginia Creeper (rails-to-trails) near the top of the mountain (3500'+ elev.). Getting there challenged our GPS as we ended up missing a critical turn and found ourselves towing our fifth wheel up a gravel, one-lane road across the ridge. Without 4-wheel drive we would not have made it. If the GPS liked us, we would have been on paved road all the way to the campground. The campground is rustic in nature and our site was on a newly cut of mountain. It overlooked the office. Check in and VERY friendly and easy - the owner is a nice, older guy. Our site was a pull through with water and electricity (thought it was 30 amp but the breakers were only 20 amps). Water pressure was low but of good quality. The site stills needs a 'finish' grade to get it more level (needed a LOT of planks to get the fiver level). It hadn't been mowed in some time making our site more of a field. The view was very nice. We were one of two campers in the whole place. So the night was very quiet and the stars were out in full force. Used the fire ring for S'mores. Leaving the next day, the exit road was very rutty and it was a slow go. Overall, this campground is perfectly placed for Virginia Creeping. It's not really close to anything else, so pack in whatever you need. The campground need some TLC and grooming but it will do for a night. Little pricey at $35.00/nite but there's no close competition so c'est la vie. - Owlet

Oct 2019 - $30.00
It's a long, uphill and winding road but it's worth the drive I promise. Sites all seem to be large pretty level. Lots of room between sites and plenty of privacy. 30 amp and water at the site and a dump station. Very well staffed and they couldn't be nicer. There is WiFi at the checkin station so be sure to ask for the password when you see someone. There is ZERO cell service. Even with our WeBoost we were dead. But drive 10 min down the road to Skulls Gap overlook and have full bars and a gorgeous view. There are 3 loops. We stayed in Groundhog. It was great but I would choose one of the other 2 if we return. Groundhog sits closest to the access road and even though it was lightly traveled I feel like it may have been quieter in one of the inner loops. That being said, if Groundhog is all that's available take it for sure. The campground stays damp nearly all year, I think due the elevation, so it is full of a variety of beautiful ferns and mosses. There was a state wide fire ban when we were there but the campground was not enforcing it due to the conditions that apparently only exist on that part of the mountain. What a great place! - GoWhereYouWantToGo
Oct 2018 - $28.00
We really liked this campground. This area of Virginia is very nice. The campground has large sites with plenty of room between you and your neighbors. Sites are well laid out with a nice picnic table and fire pit. Small bath houses that are dated but adequate. The camp staff were very friendly. We would stay again. - skiles
Sep 2018 - $24.00
Nature, nature, nature. Stayed at site Cotts 053 - mostly level, very wooded area with stream nearby. Great hiking, biking and very family friendly. There has been a recent local management change and the new staff is energetic, friendly (don't know what previous management was like). The bathrooms/showers were musty, but serviceable, we chose to shower in the RV though. We will be back for more than two nights... seems like a good place for a four-five day stay. - Rivers_Riders
