We made reservations in the summer to stay at Deer Run Campground for three nights, so we could attend the Blue Ridge Folk Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Ferrum College. I requested a pull-through site from the gentleman I spoke to on the phone and told him we had a 36' class A motorhome and we'd be towing a vehicle for a total of 53'. He said it would not be a problem. We drove from another campground where we had been staying the previous week and arrived in the rain at Deer Run. First thing we noticed was that gravel hadn't been added to the campground roadways in years and they were more mud then gravel. When my wife went in to check in she was told that we were scheduled to be in a back-in, but since the campground was practically empty, he would walk us to a pull-through. The site to which he guided us to was so unlevel that it would be impossible to get our big rig motorhome leveled safely. We drove back to the office and were told"I'm sorry, but that's all we have available. That seemed odd since we were one of maybe three RV's in the whole campground. Also We had passed sites that were more level on the drive back to the office, but they had other vehicles parked in them, not RVs. We decided that the campground could not accommodate us, so we opted to go somewhere else and lost our $50 deposit. We missed the Folk Festival because the next closest campground was 2 hours away. This could be a nice campground with TLC and general upkeep, but we cannot recommend it, especially to big rig class A motorhomes and 5th wheels. We camped at Deer Run Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: September, 2004 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Although well off the beaten path, and a little hard to find, we enjoyed staying here. The park is being renovated with wider spaces and sewer hookups. It was not crowded over Labor Day weekend and there were hayrides, etc... for the kids to enjoy. They have 3 lakes for fishing and a pool for the kids. The bathrooms had been repaired and were well stocked as well as very neat and clean. If you want to get away from it all, I recommend Deer Run. They also have permanents in a certain area in the rear, but they also seemed to be tidy and quiet hours were adhered to by all. We will stay again! We camped at Deer Run Campground in a Tent Trailer.
