Beautiful location on a small hill so that there are great views of the mountains in the area. Farm right next door, loved seeing the cows walking by during the day. Smaller than most KOAs which in fine with us, not really big resort type fans. Campground was very clean and neat. Stayed in a back in site which could be a little tight trying to back into depending on how vehicles across from you are parked and how far the wood timbers that surrounds the site extend. Verizon cellphone service was spotty at times, WiFi was good, no cable TV, could only get 3 TV channels on antenna. Overall, loved the location and atmosphere in the park, will definitely be back. Staff was very helpful in finding sites together for our small group of 3 during a busy time of year for them. - Roadrunnermoore
Oct 2019 - $65.00
A very nice campground. We typically find KOA's too tight but this is a nice one. The sites are at the top of a hill so you have a view of the mountains in the distance as well as cows and sheep on a next door farm. The staff are very helpful and friendly. There is a fairly large pool. The staff can help you find a rental car through a local garage who will drop the car off at the CG and pick it up later. There is a lot to do in the area and this is a convenient spot to stay and access the mountains, caverns, etc. - Cape Cod kayaker

We would without reservations recommend Koa Luray country Waye campground to anyone. We would stay there again without reservation. We stayed for one month September 2019 - our site was 34 - it had a wonderful view of the mountain on both sides, the farm next door with many dairy cows, the main entrance, the pool, and the park. There are Great hiking in the area. The staff were phenomenal - they helped with reviews and personal loan of guide books etc. We had cell service. Although there is no cable there was lots to do. Koa provided fIre rings and chairs for total relaxation- overlooking the Shenandoah valley. Our motor home fit perfectly on our site and our table sat comfortably on concrete and our vehicle fit neatly in front of our table providing enough privacy and comfort. We tried to enjoy a complementary coffee and conversation with the KOA Luray RVResort Country Waye staff each day. Koa luray will see us again in our Travel. Thumbs up and stay cool! Luray is a beautiful place. The people are so nice. Thank you for a wonderful experience. - Alle-Red

The CG entrance off RT 211 is easily accessible and obviously posted. The staff was polite, professional, and informative. The CG is only 10 years old so the trees are small, offer little shade, and no privacy between sites. Its easy to navigate in a large RV. Additional pull thru sites with cement pads are under construction. The CG roads and sites are 3/4" grey chip stones. We were in site 17 in a 40' motorhome. Our rear wheels were off the ground to achieve level. The water quality was good and pressure sufficient. They also rent 3 cabins and a house. The bathhouse, constructed with cinder block walls and concrete floors, is clean & plain. Beware: CG cancellation policy is strict! We stayed for 7 days. They processed our CC for the full price ($586.79) when the reservation was made. Cancellations less than 30 days in advance will forfeit 50% total. Cancellations occurring less than 4 days from arrival will forfeit 100% total. $586.79, half or full is an unacceptable penalty for a cancellation! I could not award this CG with a 10 due to my site (17) being grossly out of level and their unreasonable cancellation policy. - AT Jersey
Oct 2018 - $55.00
Part of what you're paying for here is location, which is great. We stayed here in a 40 foot motorhome and interior roads easy to navigate. Easy in/out, friendly staff, well maintained property, clean bathhouse. Great location for exploring Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns, and also nice to sit at the campsite and look out at the mountains on both sides of the valley. No privacy between sites, you're pretty exposed from all angles and our site could use some leveling work. But this didn't detract from our overall stay. Walmart, grocery and other stores right up the road. T-Mobile didn't work here but our Verizon cell and mifi worked great. This is a true campground with transient traffic. We heard some road noise when we were there during the day, but very quiet at night. They also have some very nice looking cabins (from the outside), a nice tent area, and a trail along the river. We would stay here again. Rate reflects weekly rate. - Roaming Together
Oct 2018 - $65.00
Nice campground with nice walking areas. No internet. Firewood had to be bought there but did not burn well.
Site flooded from the rain. Staff came immediately to dig trenches to help water drain.
Nice primitive sites as well as RV sites. - PamelaA

wow, what a great park for kids, has everything for little ones. Pools, waterslides, game room with games, restaurant, playground, bouncey mat things... huge open field area. Does have dog park - not huge, but works for most dogs. - Dixies Mom
Jun 2019 - $68.00
Review is based on commercial camping style and not being compared to state forest. Grounds and buildings well maintained and manicured. Recently remodeled bathhouses, although on crowded weekends, could use more bathhouses and restrooms. Since my last visit here, they've added a water park with three additional pools (including baby pool for a total of four) water slides, and splash park. The design is very nice and inviting. On weekends, it can be tough to find seating within the water park. Also added are several rows of cabins. The campground is large for a Jellystone and we were glad we rented a golf cart. They are everywhere here due to the distance of activities from most sites. With the miniature gold, laser tag, water park, activities, arcade, several playgrounds, volley ball, Gaga ball, and basket ball courts as well as planned activities, this really is a destination campground. Be warned it is a favorite for weekends and is full or near full. The advertisements and planning sheet given to us for amenities operations and schedules show water slides and snack cafe open daily. However, this is not the case. When we asked Thursday afternoon about the slides, we were told they would only be open on the weekend. Friday at lunch time, we checked out getting a meal at the cafe and were told it would not open until 4 pm (it was not open the day before and was supposed to open at 11). We had thought about returning during middle of the week later in summer, but if attractions aren't open unless it's a weekend, we probably won't. The planned activities were great and most of the staff were courteous. Our site was OK. Definitely in a more active area. Should we return, we would ask for a different site. We found a quieter, more woodsy section that is more our style. The views here are beautiful and even though it was crowded, the pools and water slides were kept clean and lines for the slide kept moving at a good pace. - hopefulone
Apr 2019 - $80.00
While expensive, we found the campground to be nice and clean. Lots of improvements since we'd been here 10 years ago. Most of the premium sites are concrete pads. Good power and water. Numerous cabins. We found some of the water & electric sites on the side of the hill to be muddy from rain run-off. Still remains a great place for families with kids. We were never able to connect to the campground's WiFi and Verizon Wireless spotty and generally unusable for talk or data. - Davydee

Stayed in the no generator loop. Well worth it. Stayed Thurs-Sun, well worth being here during the week. We were 1 of only 3 people in our loop until the weekend. It was very quite until then but still not bad. The reviews were right, within 5 minutes of me parking the ranger arrived and asked if I could maneuver my truck so the tire wasn't on the grass. He was very nice about it and so was I. No verizon coverage to spoke of, which was fine. About 12 OTA channels that came in very clear. Wildlife everywhere. We saw a bear while driving into the campground and within an hour of being at our site there was one in a tree right behind our camper. No issues while we were there. Deer everyday. Far away from any towns but that was kind of the point. So many hiking trails and beautiful views. We are already figuring out when to come back. The only thing I could say, because we were in the no generator loop our site was very small. So if you want more room stay in the pull through area. - Justice12t
Jul 2019 - $20.00
Even though this campground has no hookups, it felt like a full service park. Big Meadows Lodge has a full restaurant upstairs & bar restaurant downstairs. Its Great Room is a nice air conditioned place to relax or work with multiple outlets to charge your phones. Big Meadows Visitor Center has another diner like restaurant that is currently under remodel construction. There are many activities, hiking, biking, horse carriage rides, outdoor movies, massage spa, museum, etc. Gas & diesel both available at Big Meadows for big rigs. Temperature up here is 20 degrees cooler than DC. No humidity either. T-Mobile service was 2 bars but worked like 4 bars full service at campsite and lodge. If you have a big rig, do not come from the North because Mary's Rock Tunnel has low clearance. Come from the South in terms of arriving at Big Meadows. The road up to Sky Line Drive is 35 mph with two lanes going up so that big rigs can climb as slow as they want, 5 or 10 mph to prevent over heating. It is pretty steep but doable for the biggest rigs as long as you climb super slow. Lots of wildlife, even black bears at the campsite everyday. And deer everywhere. There are many unlevel sites. F loop seems to be the most level & longest. - univmd

The campground is as beautiful as the park, tons of wildflowers and natural landscaping. Well worth the additional work of dry camping. - Meyersdvm

Great little primitive get a way! We stayed 3 nights. Camp sites are within a few feet of the Shenandoah River. Lot of fishing and river floating available. Although there are no electric, water or sewer hook ups, there are clean porta-potties near campsites throughout the campground. There is firewood available at the office as well as ice. Used mostly for tent camping, but nice spaces for rvs. If you have any questions give manager a call. He is very nice and helpful with any need. - F350Powerstroke

Stayed here for 2 nights to see Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park. No hookups, but has a dump station and fresh water supply. All back-in sites, no drive-thrus. A generator free zone but also lots of sites you can use generators. Pluses: woodsy pretty shaded lots, fantastic advice from very knowledgeable park ranger, wildlife, hiking nearby, campstore nearby, clean, nice hosts. Negatives: very hilly campground -- difficult with the trailer to drive in, drive through narrow road campground, and very few level sites. Had to use levelers, as did many people with campers. Stayed in 26' trailer at site C156. - A New Chapter
Oct 2016 - $15.00
We decided to spend an extra night on our trip and moved here from Big Meadows which was already full - turned out to be well worth it. Not sure why but this campground was nearly empty and we ended up with a fantastic site. Bathrooms were barebones but clean - no showers available. Lots of hiking available both directly from the CG and a short drive away. Most sites are pretty unlevel so bring plenty of blocks. Great scenic spot, would definitely stay again. - TCNG
May 2016 - $8.00
Large, spread out campground. Plenty of room between sites. Easy access to sites. Lots of hiking trails readily available from the campgrounds. Campground Rangers were very helpful. No water at the site, but had a free potable water fill up place within the grounds - and the water was fantastic!!! Clean, clear, cold, pure. - Linda 2

Aug 2019 - $46.00
Located just off Interstate 81, this campground is nicely situated for exploring the Shenandoah Valley. The park is fairly new so all utilities are in good repair. The interior roads are easy to navigate and the camp store has a cafe and all your basic needs. On the plus side, they offer recycling on site (except glass). Just down the road is Shenandoah Caverns and there is a cute covered bridge nearby. Unfortunately, the interstate is in your backyard so expect a lot of truck noise. - Tessa & Toadee on the Road
Aug 2019 - $42.00
Really close to the highway, and I think we got the flattest most level site (B3) in the park. A few pull throughs, but overall, you're in a mountainous area, expect sloping sites and plan accordingly. Small trees are growing, but there is no shade. There is a lovely small dog park, again, about 50' from a busy interstate highway I-81. If traffic noise bothers you, request a site away from the highway side. There is a beautiful small vegetable garden, with sunflowers growing. Gravel smooth interior roads, water pressure is good, but electricity has fluctuated. Our Auto-former has adjusted it for our coach, but other people have had difficulties with low voltage triggering shutdowns in their systems. Customer service here is wonderful, though, there is a small pool, a snack bar with reasonably-priced offerings, and a small camp store. Lovely location in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley - a fun jumping off point to explore. - DebbieT in Alabama
Jul 2019 - $42.00
Owners and staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. All amenities very clean especially the pool and shower/restrooms. We stayed over 4th of July weekend and they had several activities for both children and adults. Some reviews mention highway noise but, it could not be heard inside. Our site and most sites level, some you will need blocks. Can't wait to return. - firemedicmark
