At this camp the sites were close but the way they were arranged it worked. Camp host was attentive and caring. Office person was helpful and kind. Camp is well maintained and shaded in most of the sites. The only problem we had was when we were leaving the base the right turn out of gate 5 had over hanging tree and broke the front of my awning. These trees should be trimmed to allow motorhomes to use the turn lane with out receiving damage. Other than that is a very pleasant experience. - BrianOMurchu
Jul 2014 - $25.00
We stayed here during our pack and load out, since it was the closest park to our home. It was clean and well-cared for. Some of the sites, including ours, were too close for privacy. In addition, water is shared between two sites, necessitating the one on the right (us) having to run 50' of water hose under the unit to a pedestal almost under the awning. Finally, some of the full time and seasonal residents have let their units deteriorate or have surrounded them with tarps, tents, etc. This is always a detractor for us. We would stay here again if we had to be in the area, but likely not for vacation. - bigdipper
Aug 2013 - $22.00
We have stayed here several times, and it was always a nice stay. This time it was better! The grounds were better maintained, and the overall appearance of the campground was much improved! The new manager was becoming very involved in operating the campground rather than just being there! We will definitely be back! - ournextstop

Jul 2018 - $34.00
Upon check-in, the staff was most pleasant and gave us a good insight to the rules and regs of the campground. We drove to our assigned camp site and found that everything was not as "nice" as the web site depicts. We found that there was a lot of mud, and mulch debris all over the site. Didn't pay much attention to it at the time, but every time we went into our camper, we dragged this mulch stuff in and it got all over our sheets. We had to constantly sweep out our camper. We were told that all we had to do to re-enter the park was to drive up to the gate, enter our code and drive in when the gate goes up. We left for a bit on Saturday the 28th. When we returned, there was a "gate guard" sitting in a golf cart at the gate. As we slowly drove by, she asked "Can I help you?". I replied "NO THANK YOU" and attempted to get up to the key code unit. She yelled at me to "GET BACK HERE". When I backed up to see what she wanted, she commenced to give me the "3rd Degree" about who we were, were we camping there, etc. She wasn't even nice about it. When I showed her our pass, she opened the gate - I DID NOT NEED HER HELP TO OPEN THE GATE!!! The Restrooms appeared to be neat and clean. However, in the men's side, of six (6) stalls, only two (2) had toilet paper and one of these unit was plugged up with a big nasty looking mess. Went to take a shower and found the privacy door kind of falling off the hinges, to which I had to lift it up to close it. The women's side didn't fare much better. The shower stalls do not have space to leave you dry clothes, or dress without getting wet. Kind of defeats the purpose of taking a shower and putting on dry clothes. Lastly, the rain came. Our site flooded to the point we had no other option but to pack up and leave. Both my wife and I were absolutely soaked by the time we got the camper loaded and on our way. Chesapeake Campground DOES NOT GIVE REFUNDS. We WILL NOT visit this camp site again. - James3
Jun 2018 - $30.00
We ended up leaving within an hour of our arrival. We set up in a very unleval space that seemed to be crawling with every type of bug including yellow flys and hornets. We could have possibly overlooked that, except the 30 amp breaker could not handle running our 1 air conditioner. We called to see if they could move us to another spot or fix the breaker and they told us they didn't have any other spot to move us to. Since it was a 90 degree day, I asked for our money back since they couldn't accommodate us. They refused to refund my money because the last person in that site had no problem so the problem was mine. We left, found another rv campground and had no problems there, which proves their breaker was defective like I thought. Overall the park seemed to be run down and it looked like the sites had seen better days. The positive is that there was not a lot of road noise. - AZAlice

Big rig friendly with level sites. Easy on and off to highway. Showers, laundry, and recreation room was good. No WiFi and no cable but no problem with our satellite or antenna. No dog park but nearby beach was good to walk dog. The grass had stickers which our dog did not like. - Fulltimersrv
Jul 2018 - $55.00
The location of this RV is perfect! That is the reason that I would rate this RV park so high. Sadly, the grounds are just merely satisfactory/poor. The grass was very high, many sites are in wet areas that sometimes flood (they have sump pumps in several locations around the park), the Water/Electric area did not have any site markings to know where to park. However, I would absolutely stay here again because the area around The Colonies and the location is wonderful. - RVThatFamily
Jun 2018 - $35.00
First saw this park when looking for a place to watch our son's carrier depart on deployment. Tried to stay here another time but no space was available. Area is like being in a large park in an urban environment. Very quiet even though you can see the traffic backed up going into the tunnel. Close to the beach but not very sandy. Not a lot of amenities at the park but plenty of stuff to do nearby. No WiFi or cable. Local tv channels are strong. Satellite works on some sites but trees affect others. Solid Verizon coverage with good speed. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nicely stocked store. Bugs a problem after dark, bring repellent. - glenthompson

We are in LOVE with this park. All the staff is friendly and helpful. Camp store is really nice (and has great ice cream), museum is great, the office and visitor center are clean and welcoming. Beach is very easy to get to and very clean. We saw dolphins one morning. It isn't facing due east so you can't see the sun rise, but it has great sunsets. You can ride your bikes in the campground on blacktop or a 6 mile dirt trail in the state park (beautiful). You can also take a 1 mile blacktop bike path through a residential area from the State Park to a little shopping center that has a grocery and great restaurant, along with some other stores. We enjoyed the military activity from next door, especially reveille in the morning (it's ok it's at 0800). Only issue we had was with the firewood. Our bundle was really "hard" and husband couldn't make kindling and had trouble getting it going for cooking a meal. Once it was going it lasted a really long time though. We wish we could have stayed longer than the 2 days we were there. - Travlin Mill3rs
Sep 2019 - $45.00
Do NOT bring a Big Rig!!!! Narrow roads, trees scrape the top and sides of the RV, and the only sites that narrowly accommodate big rigs are VERY narrow. Rest rooms by the office were nice and clean. The shower I used needed cleaning and painting. It is WELL used. Now, if I was a tent camper, or if I drove a Class B or small Class C RV, I would give this place an 8. No sewer is a disadvantage, but the size of the place and the proximity to the beach (right on the beach) are big pluses. If they trimmed the trees along the road and in the bigger sites I would rate higher. But, as things stand, I won't be back. - Ken Sawczyn

One of the most popular VA State Parks -- was completely full over Labor Day weekend. We were in the non-site specific loop which had only 35 spots. The spots facing the dune were partially shaded. Spots on the inside were full shade, and outside of the loop backed the main city road. Only one bathhouse in our loop, not super clean, but was well maintained. The beach and ocean (actually the bay) was a short walk, just over the dune. Camp store was well stocked. There is also a nature center and lots of hiking trails. - ricks99

Aug 2017 - $17.00
On 1 October, 2017, Ocean Pines and SeaMist RV Parks, associated with Naval Air Station Oceana, will do away with weekly and monthly discount rates. The daily rate will remain at $25.00, but a week long stay will increase to $175 from $154, and a month long visit will now cost you $750, up $240 from the monthly rate of $510. While the campground manager has continued to maintain the appearance of the park in great condition, keeping the grass cut, sidewalks trimmed and gutters cleaned out, as well as doing all of the check-ins, check-outs and managing a long wait list, the park does have some problems. The handicapped access ramp to the office, laundry, restrooms and showers has been roped off for over a year due to collapse of the deck area in front of the handicapped entrance to the building. The night entrance to the building, which is protected with a keypad, has been roped off for the same reason for the past three months. The wifi worked great last summer when a new system was installed, but this year, the system keeps dropping the signal, requiring that you log back on every few minutes. It is a shame that they see fit to raise the rates, but won't put money into making needed repairs to the entrance gate and the RV park office building. - glsurratt
Mar 2017 - $17.00
Mainly permanent residents at this "campground". Extremely difficult to get a reservation and now I know it's because there is hardly any turn over. Not a campground atmosphere. Your sewer would either need to be hooked up before you get completely on your site because it's in the middle of your site...because this used to be a mobile home park. There are recreation facilities (outdoor water park-in season, movie theater, bowling lanes) nearby but you'll have to go on base for these. - beachcamper5
Aug 2016 - $17.00
Adequately spaced, level spaces; most with some shade. Well kept - regularly mowed and maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. Secure gate. Only down side is the number of people who ignore the posted 5 mph speed limit (posted a total of 6 times around the park). Approximately 50% of people (including Oceana Police) exceed the speed limit by dangerous amounts. Use caution with children, pets or walking/running with headsets! - 2 Harleys and a Beast

This is the best kept secret in Virginia... The camping area is all the way in the back of the park. There was one other RV besides us, so we had our choice of spots. I think they have 12 spots available. All spots are packed gravel in among the trees, back-in, shaded, with a LOT of room.. Check in at the maintenance office on the end of the street. The park office has weird hours and is closed on weekends. Just pull in and find an open spot, catch them on Monday. There are no reservations, so its first come first serve. The park is mainly soccer fields, located in an upscale residential area, even though everything is completely open to the public, we had no concerns about security. The sites didn't have sewer hookups, but there is a dump station across from the Maintenance office.
The Camping area is all the way in the back of the park, past the soccer fields. Its on the same street as the park maintenance office. - Waiter

Campground is located in suburban area of Hampton at the rear of a 100 acre city park. Park office is located nearby and staff are very helpful and friendly. Sites are fairly grass/gravel with large evergreens providing shade. Electric is 30amp. Water & electric are padlocked until you register. Arrive before 4:30 otherwise you will have to camp rough for the night/weekend unless you can catch the caretaker cleaning the showers, or driving through the grounds. HRT (bus) stops 400 yards from campground cnr Clemwood Pwy & Little Back River Rd & covers Hampton, Virginia Beach & Newport pretty well. $3.50 buys all day pass. $5.50 allows use of ferries & express buses. Park locked after dark, however road through Campground left open (turn left at 7-11 on Back River Rd) - which creates traffic - especially in the early morning. Nearby Air Force base (other side of bay) also can be noisy - but only during daylight hours. Great place to stay if you have business/visits to do in Hampton/Virginia Beach area & don't have other transport. - Sandy Potter

We used the showers over by the Tent area (they were brand new and really clean), also provided a little more space for me to shower with my two kids. The main showers that we used were also clean. They had KOA Staff picking up garbage multiple times a day from your site, but they didn't have separate recycling. The Pools were clean, activities for kids were great! We did stay over 4th of July! They had bouncy slides and fun things to do to keep the kids entertained! - AJCimas
Jun 2019 - $87.00
We've been to this KOA several times over the last few years. The employees are always great, the park is clean, and there are lots of fun activities. The sites don't provide much room, but that is typical for a KOA. The only complaint I had this time was the lack of flexibility with late checkout. We were in town for the big sand soccer tournament, and my son's last game was at a time when we would have had to rush to get back for the 12:00 checkout time. Also, if they made the playoffs (which they ultimately did) the tournament would run even longer for us. I asked for a late checkout, which they've always been happy to give me. The response was that they didn't do that anymore, but instead would let me stay for an extra night for half price. On the one hand, I understand they're a business and it was nice to not have to worry about what time we left. On the other hand, no one was using the site the next day, we stay there whenever we have a tournament, I'm a KOA rewards member, and a little flexibility would have been nice in exchange for my loyalty. There's another campground across the street from this KOA, and I'll be inquiring about their late checkout policies next year when I book for this tournament next year. - SteveMM
May 2019 - $81.00
The campground is nice. We camped on dirt, sand, and weeds and there were plenty of trees to keep us shaded. There are new deluxe patio sites that are concrete with patios, but are missing mature trees. There are new bathrooms and old bathrooms. The older bathrooms are inefficient. The toilets and sinks are in one building and showers are in another. So, if you are cleaning up one would shower in one room, leave that room, walk around the building and go into another room to use the sink and toilet. Also, the toilet stalls are very tight. I can't imagine how a very large person would be able to use the toilet. As it was, I would walk in, straddle the toilet to close the door and the toilet paper holder just about touched my shoulder. The water pressure was low and water temperature was inconsistent if there was another person showering. That said, the bathrooms were extremely clean. The newer bathrooms are private one room bathrooms. The campground is great for kids, which we don't camp with. There are two pools, one with a slide, a bouncy pad, a couple of playgrounds, horse shoes, volleyball, etc. I didn't use the laundry facilities, but did check it out. It was the cleanest facility I have ever seen including private laundromats. We had no issues with WiFi and a good selection of cable channels. I think the campground is a bit pricey. Next time in Virginia Beach, I would probably tryout another campground due to the price. - Living the Life

This is a very large park with a variety of types of sites & prices. We picked a super site which was expensive, but roomy & beautiful. It was a long, cement pull through with an elevated firepit & nice, large metal picnic table, which were on the extended cement pad. Hookups were great as was the cable TV. There are a few pools in the various areas. Restrooms were modern & clean. There is a free parking lot close to the beach which is a fairly short drive from the campground. We would return. - R&S
Oct 2019 - $40.00
Park is well-located for beach activities. This is a large park with all imaginable types of sites...open, wooded, long, wide, etc. Park offers all sorts of activities for kids and adults, and they have an official Campground Cat who greets campers and inspects rigs. There were a couple of minor negatives: Our site wasn't very level, but we managed. The site was quite messy, with broken plastic pipe and some other scraps scattered around. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because our visit was very late in the season and I'll assume that issue will be addressed next year. I say that hopefully because we'll be attending a rally there next spring. - DrLewie
Jun 2019 - $90.00
Super sites are the place to be, nicest part of the CG. Not far from the beach and they have a parking lot dedicated for CG guests but not well monitored so it's a bit abused by others parking there. The downfall is jet noise from the nearby Navy base. If winds are wrong as it was one day my stay it will feel (sound) like you are camping on an aircraft carrier - very very noisy. Large park, kid and pet friendly. Second time here. - NC804
