A friend & I stayed there a few days in May in a small RV to hike. There are numerous, well marked, trails accessible from the campgrounds, including the A.T. The view from the amphitheater is breath taking . There is no water or electricity at the sites, but there is water available to fill your tanks (free, and it is very good water!). The bathrooms were well kept and clean, as were the grounds. I look forward to returning there. Golden Pass card afforded us 1/2 off...I really appreciate that! We camped at Lewis Mountain Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Thirty paved sites, tables, fire pits/grills. Golden Age Passport give 1/2 off price. No Reservations. First come sites, but other than holidays, you should be able to get a site if you arrive between Sunday PM and Thursday AM. Dumpster, and one water spigot available near site 4. Restrooms have hot water, but no showers. Location: N38° 26.3796'; W78° 28.7078' Great visit. Spent 13 days. We camped at Lewis Mountain Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at the Lewis Mtn campground for only one night. This location has both cabins and a small campground. If your looking for rustic this is the place. No hook-ups or dump station, just peace and quiet. The sites are all rather small, catering to tents and the smallest of trailers. Most sites are fairly close together, with not much understory between them. Our site was in the middle of the loop, but we did have some privacy due to the fact we had no neighbors. Camp host was very friendy and a wealth of information. Wildlife galore in all areas surrounding the campground. Saw two bear, so keep you foodstuff stowed away. Big Meadows complex is only 5 miles away so food and fuel are close by. Overall a great little campground. Almost forgot to mention, you cannot reserve a site here, FCFS (First Come, First Served). We camped at Lewis Mountain Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Lewis Mtn. is the smallest of the campgrounds on Skyline Drive, and caters to tent campers and hikers. Very friendly hosts who kept each site tidy. We spent one night here, then moved into one of their heated cabins later in the week when the weather turned nasty. It's a good choice if Big Meadow is unavailable. We camped at Lewis Mountain Campground (NPS Campground) in a Tent.

Cost with Golden Age $7.50 – no hookups at all! We took site 20, which was a small pullthrough looking out over the mountain. Another National Park Service campground on Skyline Drive. This campground has only 31 sites and a huge picnic area. It is on the Appalachian Trail so that it is very popular with those hiking the trail and other trails on the Drive. All sites were taken for the weekend and most of the campers moved out on Sunday especially after a violent thunderstorm Saturday night. We have a 25 foot RV and could fit in most sites but anything bigger it would be a tough fit. Only two pull throughs. Very popular campground and also with the bears. Three bears were in the campground the night before we pulled in. Beautiful drive getting to the park coming from the north or south. We camped at Lewis Mountain Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.
