The park setting is not very pretty and the spaces are tight. We were in an area with shorter-stay campers and could easily have joined in the conversation of campers behind us. There are many sites that appear to be for longer stays with wooden step entrances, flower pots, etc. We even had to cut short a walk due to an angry dog (leash attached to collar, but running free) from one of those campers. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely go to Washington Park. There is a paved trail on the perimeter that allows views of the ferries and lovely seascapes and there are several good off-path hiking trails available. It’s a lovely park.

We have stayed here several times over the years. This was a nice friendly place years ago but they have sold to new owners. This is a trailer village now, most of the park is filled with full time residents. There used to be a gate security person watching the front gate when the office was closed, not any more. I asked in the office about the cable tv and was told that they do not have it any more because the cable company changed to digital. I went ahead and hooked up and had 75 or so channels? Why lie and say it does not work? The new office people were rude and short on personality. The office used to be a local hangout with several locals visiting and drinking coffee. The overall feeling to me is this is now a trailer park not a rv park for travelers. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great location. In the middle of everything we wanted to do. We stayed 5 days in a nice shaded site. The electrical power was iffy at best. Thirty amp at 107 volts. My surge protector didn't like this place. The new owner said they had a big electrical upgrade project scheduled soon. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We were looking for a private park where we could hook up and then leave our rig for a couple of days while we took the Jeep to Vancouver Island for a couple of days. For our needs, the rate of $55.25/night seemed steep, but it was convenient to the Anacortes ferry terminal and we could find cat care for our cats via Rover.com. The site was plenty large for our 43' rig with room for our toad next to the rig. It was quite shady with big trees and, although neighbors were close, the trees between gave more of a private feel. Since we were gone for much of our stay, we didn't see much of the campground, but our cat sitter told us that she had cared for dogs for other folks staying at this campground and that it was very nice to walk around and that the off-leash dog park was nice. We had cellular service but I neglected to write down how many bars so cannot report on that. It was definitely acceptable on Verizon. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The ferry from Anacortes goes through the San Juan islands and the scenery is beautiful. Friends of ours took the ferry to Friday Harbor (walk-on passengers) just for the day - I think that would be a great trip. Visit Snow Goose Produce for "immodest" ice cream cones!

We asked for a site where we could get Sat TV, and got it. Long, wide and level. There are many nice and cozy sites here with trees, shade, etc. Probably a site for whatever your likes are. We've been here before and will be back if in the area again. Can hear the planes from Whidby Island Naval Air Station. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Good large park with plenty of room to roam. Each site is very different so it depends on which site you get. The front of the park is very wooded with lovely big trees and landscaping. The back, newer part of the park is a bit more open and just big gravel lots. All the utilities are excellent and easy to deal with. We were in B15 and right next to the wifi which worked well all the time for us. Verizon cell was good. Cable worked well and easy to deal with. There is plenty for the kids and there are plenty of kids. You can always ask to be on one of the sides or in the back away from kids but it is a big family get away type park. Good dog park. Can be dusty if you are in the middle. Good location right at the edge of town. Easy drive into town or over to Whidbey. Right off 20. July and August very full so reserve early and u can always cancel. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Great farmers market on sat in Anacortes. Thursday 4-7 in oak harbor on the island. July and August busy with something every weekend. Take the ferry to Friday Harbor San Juan. The mopeds on the island are expensive and not worth it. If you want to drive on the island, take your car. You can see all of Friday Harbor though just walking or get a trolly or bus from the harbor.

We have stayed at Pioneer Trails for the past two years and absolutely love this resort. The place is beautiful, peaceful, the sites are spacious and the Staff has treated us with the utmost courtesy. Normally that's all it takes to get a 5-star rating from me. The one draw back; the road dust is ridiculous. The managers / owners have allowed the gravel roads to be ground into dust and have chosen not to maintain them. They have a "5 mph, strictly enforced, speed limit" sign at the entrance, but it is not enforced and a very small percentage of campers adhere to it. Let the dust clouds roll. Bottom line: they need to spend some money, seal the dust and then re-gravel the roads. If you don't mind a lot of dust, then this is a great place to camp. As for me, I will not return until the dust issue is resolved. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.

Heard good things about this RV park so we made our reservation. I'm glad that we did, it's a beautiful place and was the perfect way to make sure that we were able to catch the morning ferry to Vancouver Island. I agree with others who said it reminds them of a state park instead of a commercial facility. Great location for Deception Pass, Whidbey Island, and the ferry to Victoria. Large, level space between beautiful old trees. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Really, the only negative thing was the great number of low flying Navy jets overhead, but then again, the cost of freedom... My only caution would be to those who would annoyed or bothered by the constant air traffic. Military jets are usually VERY loud, and when they're coming in 2 minutes apart (well into the night/early morning) it can make for a very restless night. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Would have rated the park much higher but gave a 7 due to the DUST. The park roads are "extremely dusty". Lots of permanent residents. TV Cable was good. Compared to other RV parks in the area this park is slightly better. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.

Some sites are in trees and spacious, while most are basically a gravel parking lot. Lots in the park are being sold so expect the latter. The overall facility is clean and well taken care of, except for severe dust problem due to interior gravel roads. Did not use the restrooms. Laundry had new washers but with only 4 of them, short hours and a big park, several attempts were needed to get use. For us, the big plus was a large fenced dog area. There are also children play areas but that didn't apply to us. Would probably look for another park if staying in this area again. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park is located just south of Anacortes, WA and just off Highway #20. On arrival we received a friendly welcome and were escorted to our site. Fees are payable with cash or debit card. The park is quite large with many long-term residents. Some of the sites are owned by campers who use them as seasonal sites or rent them out to the public. The roads are wide and covered with fine gravel so can be extremely dusty. Our site was large, level, wide open, back in, and with easy access. The E/W/S connections are well-placed including cable television. The site has a fire pit and picnic table. The shower house is a long walk from our site. We would stay here again. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall, Pioneer Trails is a very nice park and we look forward to staying again. It's location is perfect, on Fidalgo Island, very close to Anacortes. It is also close to the north end of Whidbey Island ( 20-30 min. via bridge). The surroundings are beautiful, carved out of the forest and kept quiet and clean by the courteous staff. We camped our 38' in the "B" section. Our ONLY issue was what I call "dirty" power in our site. It drove our surge protector nuts. I put a digital test meter on the power pedestal and tested voltage lower than 110. The amps (50) were there but not quite the voltage. I explained this to the staff and they immediately directed me to the newer "A" section of the park just a few steps away from our original site and the problem was solved. We camped at Pioneer Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.
