After checking in, we were given this route: north drive, right turn to east drive, left turn on main street, right turn into pull thru. There was a huge problem with the turn onto main street. It was a tight turn, there were 3 vehicles in front of trailers on main street at the turning point, there was a large bush and a utility post to the left and a large tree to the right. In trying to swing wide right, I was caught up in tree limbs. I called the office to advise I couldn't make that turn. She replied in a condescending manner, "others have made that turn". Fortunately a great employee there, Phyllis, showed up. She immediately saw the problem and took action to cut the tree limbs out of the way. She recognized the problem with the turn and suggested we take another route to our site...which we did. The site was grass and required leveling. There were no sewer hookups because of proximity to river. We figured no problem staying contained for three days. When we used the showers, we discovered they charged paying guests (like us) a dollar for five minutes. And they also charged a dollar a day for our very small dog. Also, no WiFi at our site. Laundry was 2 bucks a load each for both the washer and dryer. There were tent sites across the road from our site. There were two trash barrels near the tent site. Both were overflowing with trash! When we were pulling out, we discovered our landing gear was dragging because the site was a couple inches below the road level. We had to raise the wheels to get out. Needless to say, we won't be staying here again. We don't care to be nickled and dimed. We camped at Camp Kalama in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you need groceries, go to WalMart in Longview or Woodland. The store in Kalama is small and pricey.

Primarily a place for people to fish and/or reside seasonally or permanently. This park is right along the banks of the Kalama River in a pretty setting, but it's also very close to I-5 and some train tracks. Given that it was early spring and cold and we didn't keep any windows open, we weren't bothered by noise from either. The office was closed when we arrived, but we were able to check in at the bar, where the bartender/owner/manager(?) broke off his cribbage game with the only customer in the place just long enough to get the job done. Our site was small, but adequate for our rig. The main restroom/shower building was closed ("we're remodeling it") and we didn't use the other facility which was farther away from our site so i can't comment on them. Besides the bar, there is a camp store and a small cafe where we had breakfast in the morning. Service was friendly, but the food was only so-so. Seems to be a popular place with the locals though. All in all, this is a pretty old, slightly run-down, basic sort of campground that will appeal mostly to those who want to fish the river in season. We camped at Camp Kalama in a Travel Trailer.

Short drive into the small town of Kalama where there are a few restaurants, several antique stores, and a gas station.

A bit worn. Right off the highway but not a destination resort. Nice people but not a wonderful place. We camped at Camp Kalama in a Truck Camper.

We stayed here overnight in our motor home on the last night of a 7000 mile trip. We called several days earlier to make a reservation and had to give our credit card number, security code on back and expiration date. Also had to give our zip code and house number. Lot's of information for a reservation, don't you think!. When we got there at 4 PM on a Sunday afternoon, the office was closed and no check-in packet. Found our back-in site which had high grass that was wet and site was muddy from rain. Hooked up cable TV, neighbor informed us that the cable TV was turned off in the OFF SEASON. Could not get any local stations on roof top antenna. No WIFI either. We called the office to get WIFI code and only got message. The office called us back late the next day, after we had left. This park looks like a summer fishing camp as it is on the river. Would not stay here again unless I came to fish and the fish had better be biting! We camped at Camp Kalama in a Motorhome.

This park is about 50 miles from Portland. The wi-fi is very weak (need to constantly re-connect), but cable TV is included. Restrooms were only moderately clean. We camped at Camp Kalama in a Motorhome.

We arrived on a Friday night, and they put us in a full hook up pull through that was very hard to get into. Couldn't use the sewer as it was 30 ft. away. They have the full time live in people mixed in with the campers in the full hook ups, so if possible use the non sewer sites. The power and water sites are much nicer. There's a restaurant on site, but it has strange hours. Doesn't always follow the posted hours of operation. All in all I would go back this summer and check it out again since I know which sites to stay in. The staff was friendly. We camped at Camp Kalama in a Fifth Wheel.

Last review was too long ago to be on the money. Nightly rate is with senior discount less local taxes for a riverfront site. Though old, park seems maintained well enough. Has both pull thru & back in; most are pretty close together. There are a number of riverfront sites and there are a number of long term folks. Park is easy on and off fwy however turns can be a little tight within park. Little freeway noise at back but more at front. Some train noise. Seems to be a place that is popular with fishermen as river provides instant fishing access and a boat launch. Park has a very modest store and a cafe that offers breakfast and lunch. Since the Kalama City Park RV park is now a day park only, this isn't a bad alternative. Park management seemed very helpful We camped at Camp Kalama in a Travel Trailer.

Someone was already in the campsite we had reserved. Staff was no where to be seen. We had to find a different site in the dark. The people who work here are rude, rude and rude! Place is over priced, you will get charged for everything (i.e., dogs per day, a visiting car, people who arrived in the visiting car, if your chair has crossed over the camping line, etc)! Look out! We camped at Camp Kalama in a Travel Trailer.
