Dropped in before Labor Day weekend with lots openings, and my favorite site 57 was open. Now the forest loop is tight, and a 35' diesel pusher must have had a challenge. Most sites in this loop have power water, back in, some drive thru. It's a older Washington State Park so most sites are tent camping. Your satellite TV won't work well here, cell coverage is great now. The Navy Base does have F 18s flying out of here, and can make for days noisy at times. Buy supplies before arriving, firewood is available. Mostly bring your adventure, and camera. Park has plenty of trails across bridge, street, and shorelines. Just a great Washington SP, and yes I will be back. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Motorhome.

Lots and lots of trees! Almost no sky to be seen anywhere! We had a pull through site in the Quarry Pond area. Our site was nice, for a hot day. Our weather was cold and rainy, so we did not stay overnight! Very dreary. No Verizon cell service, no access for sat TV, no antenna TV. Navigating the roads on the other side of the park is very tricky for anything longer than 26 ft or so. We are 30 ft and only had a few inches to spare between us and some mighty big tree trunks. We won't go back. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

As others have said, the planes are very loud. I think I started getting used to them after a few days but if you're looking for quiet, keep that in mind. The sites are very shady and private. I stayed in the Quarry Pond campground and found it to be somewhat tight. I don't think I'd want a 40 ft RV here. The roads are a bit narrow with low hanging branches and the back in sites were tight to get into. There's great hiking trails right off the campground. The only downsides are the noise and also lack of internet/OTA. Cell reception: AT&T - 2 bars LTE - 4 Mb down and 2 Mb up (with booster) T-Mobile - nothing Verizon - 2 bars LTE - 1.30 Mb down and .25 Mb up (with booster) Without the booster I got nothing on any of those 3 carriers. I noticed as I walked around, that other places in the park seemed to have better reception. 50amp + water but no sewer. Dump station onsite. This is a great state park with a really good vibe and the trails and atmosphere more than make up for the plane noise. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Motorhome.

July 20,21 Deception Pass State Park, Washington, $40, Cranberry Lake Campground, site 42, water & electric or no hookups, dump station, 250 sites, reservations year round This state park is located on Whidbey Island and one can take a ferry from Port Townsend and the mainland or drive in from the north on route 20. There are three campgrounds located in this state park; Cranberry Lake - which is the biggest one located on the Puget Sound and Cranberry Lake. Quarry Pond located across the road with 60 sites all with water and electric and Bowman Bay with 20 sites but no hookups but right on the Bay (small RV's only). The main campground roads are narrow and not recommended for larger units in all three campgrounds. In the park there are trails, fishing, boating, swimming and beaches on the Puget Sound. Most of the sites are in evergreens with no views except for the Bowman Bay area. Driving in from the north the Bowman Bay Campground is before the Deception Pass Bridge and the other two campgrounds are right after the bridge. The bridge is high up and narrow with beautiful views. We enjoyed our stay here, but be warned a Naval Air Station is right near the park and it is a training area for pilots. The two days we were there the jets and planes were loud and went right over our site. I just pretended that is was a Top Gun like Tom Cruise flying around above us and that made it easier to take. I wish this State Park would enforce their two vehicles per site limit (including camping unit) and the number of people in a site. We had a number of sites around us that had four vehicles parked on site with a lot of people camping. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Motorhome.

I am glad we stayed at this state park but it is very busy and a big tourist area. On Whidbey Island there are other areas to visit like the town of Oak Harbor, Fort Ebey State Park and Fort Casey State Park.

Very nice park! We stayed there in 30' travel trailer, no hookup on our site (Lower Loop, site #94). Some sites are not very private, but some are excellent. Ours #94 was VERY, very good! Some people complain about noise from planes - they flew only in the late morning, and didn't bother after this. Pad from trailer is fairly level, I didn't even have to use levelers, it was right on spot. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful park! About 2/3 dry camping sites, some with very nice views, and 1/3 electrical/water in forested setting... huge Douglas firs and cedars. We stayed in the forest area with water and electric. Site levelness is variable, but many sites are nearly perfectly level. We stayed in site 41, which was very level, no side to side leveling required (we will try to get this site again). The State Park website described the privacy of this site as poor, which I found odd as it is certainly one of the most private sites in the park, and one of the most private sites I have ever seen. Lots of nice trails for hiking with fabulous scenery. The only downside to this park is that it is near the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. The planes at this base include fighter jets and prop planes, both types of which fly practice runs very close to the park... it can be very loud. This is the reason I didn't give an overall rating of 10. Even so, we still enjoyed our stay very much, and will likely stay here again. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I would rate this park better but due to the nearby NAS Whidbey, the jet noise level was unbearable. Every evening of our stay was dominated by the racket of military jets practicing. Every minute or two conversation was impossible due to a jet taking off, and in between take offs, it wasn't very quiet as they circled to land again. We had a Verizon router and two phones, none of which could get a signal. Part of the reason is because we were camped at Quarry Pond. In the main campground, there were spots which a signal was available. Our friends had AT&T which worked somewhat. The Quarry Pond campground I would rate as only fair. Gravel roads were OK if not a bit muddy. The infrastructure was good but only had electric and water. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Motorhome.

The tree loop just opened that day at noon. Water had not been turn on, but was later in day. I get frustrated by WA State Park. High fees, and poor planning. Cell service was better this year, middle loop has had new paving, and site reconstruction for the better. New amphitheater going in. Overall a amazing park, and why am I the only one giving a review? Book early as it gets busy. No jets this weekend, they can be noisy. Reservation fee is another $8. Back again later this year. Our annual Memorial Day camping trip, and this time Deception. Make reservations early, as park is popular. We had no hookups which is fine. Surprising this year it looks that the concessions did not have any bidders, and all closed. Canoes as well. Small store outside park, but check in booth has firewood, but no last minute supplies. Beautiful park, with a lot to do. Wash. SP need to seriously look at why they can't provide recycling at all campgrounds. Yes we will come back again. Beautiful place, stayed in the tree loop, low tide, park was in good shape for early season, they are short of $$$, you can see. Hiking, and water views are great. My only major complaint was checking in, was the Ranger had an vest, gun,and all. Was thinking......... Is this a state park........ Is something going on? On a positive note, bring a fishing pole, good shoes, and enjoy. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Motorhome.

This was our 4th visit to Deception Pass. Stayed in site 193 which is steps from the amphitheater, West Beach, Cranberry Lake & the North beach trail. Site location was fantastic, close to the newer bathhouse, trails to the beach, etc... We keep finding new trails, fishing holes, and beach spots here. Navy planes were out on Thu and Fri before Labor Day but they didn't start flying until 8AM and seemed to be done at a reasonable hour. Love this park. So very mixed feelings on this place. On the one hand the park is gorgeous. Lovely beaches, pretty lake, tons of hiking trails. On the other hand the sites are mostly terrible. Many are small, very (very) unlevel, several butt up right against one another. Interior roads are also treed and very tight. We had to walk our 40-footer through the lower loop to get into our site, squeezing through trees and turns...and in the end we probably had one of only a handful of sites large and level enough to take us. The rest are really much better suited to tenters or small trailers. Lastly it's super-crowded and you hear jet planes from the nearby base shooting over the area all day long. We enjoyed hiking the area, but won't camp here again due to the poor site quality. 4 bars of Verizon 4G LTE in camp. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Motorhome.

An absolutely gorgeous state park, on an incredibly beautiful weekend. After a 4.8 mile hike in the morning on Saturday, we sat on the beach all the rest of day. We saw and photographed bald eagles at multiple spots around the park. I don't believe any park in the Washington state system can provide so many breath-taking elements. That said, we sadly will not be returning to this park. This park is far too much of a "tight squeeze" for even a small trailer like ours (21 ft). We camped in a back-in site (#22) that was very difficult to get into. We were unable to get the trailer completely level, and we noticed a great number of the sites are not even close to being level. Additionally, this park is super popular (for the obvious reasons), so every site is full every weekend. This requires patience when departing on Sunday morning, because everyone trying to hook-up is forced to block the one way road through the camp because the sites are too small. We love the Deception Pass area, but we will opt to stay in one of the fine private RV parks in the area from now on. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The park is at the north end of Whidbey Island. It is near Cranberry lake and the beaches face the sound and the inlet. The park has a lot of old growth trees. The location is beautiful and you can easily explore the rest of Whidbey Island, which is very pretty and has an interesting military history. The sites themselves were a little on the small side and backing the trailer in was a little tricky. There are pull through sites, but I would not take a 42' rig into most of them. The restrooms were clean, but there was only one for a large loop, so you had to wait sometimes. My kids enjoyed riding their bikes, playing on the beach, seeing the old forts on Whidbey Island, and hiking. We camped at Deception Pass State Park in a Travel Trailer.
