July 14,15 Fort Townsend State Park, Fort Townsend, Washington, Site 35, no hookups, bathhouse with one shower (fee), 40 reservable sites I have mixed feelings about this campground. Only campers under 21' can stay in the loop in the woods. That loop is located on hills and many of them are unlevel and need to be repaved. I did like the loop though and saw a few of them that would fit our 25' RV without a tow. The other location has 13 sites for RV's with no hookups. The sites are right next to each other with some shade. Sites are very narrow and not for big rigs, big slides and are not level. Tow cars and trucks might have to be parked near the ranger station. We had to back out of our site even though it was a pull through. The site next to us the firegrill was about two feet away from our propane. It is a quiet campground even though there were weddings the two days we stayed here. The rangers were very helpful. This is a 367 acre campground with over 3,960 feet of shoreline on Port Townsend Bay. The walk down to the Bay is downhill and the walk back is a steep climb. There are many hiking and some biking trails (mountain bikes) all over the park. The park is located where the Old Fort Townsend Fort was built in 1856 to protect the settlers from the Indians. Much of the fort burned down but it was used in WW2 as an enemy munitions defusing station. We stopped in the Historic Town of Port Townsend before we went to the campground about two miles away. There is a free Park/Ride for cars and RV's located on 440, 12th street. Stop in the information booth there for maps of the town. Very easy with plenty of room to park and then you can hop on the shuttles for $1.50 ($1.00 for seniors) for an all day pass. You can also take a shuttle over to Fort Worden. Cute town with shops, restaurants, Victorian Houses and the ferry over to Whidbey Island for the day. We camped at Fort Townsend Historical State Park in a Motorhome.
