BEWARE!!!! This is a campground in the middle of the deep forest. It is not easy to get to. You cannot pull off the interstate and pull through to your site, plug-in and be done. The roads are winding, and at times narrow, and not for the faint of heart. There will be leaves, branches and pine needles, and possible rocks, logs, and dirt/mud. No one cleaned nature of your site. You will do work to make it enjoyable. You WILL see wild creatures, some might even be scary. If it rains, it will drip on your site from all the trees overhead. The constant noise of the babbling creek and singing crickets, nearby never ends. The wide open sites will make it hard to hear your neighbors, if you even have any neighbors, this camp site is big and very spread out. There is no room service and you can't order food, too even get food could be a hour drive on those windy roads...No cell service, No data, No TV. No one cleans up after you. It is truly unrefined. But you do get water and at least a 30 amp service. If you cannot value the words above, DO NOT COME HERE. Be in nature, and relax. At least 30 amp, some 50 amp. No sewers on site. We camped at Holly River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I'm (possibly unfairly) giving this campground a poor rating for one reason....it was absolute hell to get to it! They should have specific information on their site NOT to follow your GPS OR AAA directions!! We followed both and ended up in deep woods with mud roads, creeks, rocks, etc. for nearly two hours! Tore up my muffler and had to have it replaced. I simply cannot describe how horrible it was getting to the campground. The staff was wonderful at the campground and the ranger told us that MANY people have made that mistake and some have even gotten stuck out there!! We were TOTALLY exhausted and ended up sleeping in the car and leaving the next morning. MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOU HAVE PROPER DIRECTIONS TO THE CAMPGROUND!!!!!!!!!! There actually is a good way to get there. We camped at Holly River State Park in a Tent.

What can I say other than what a wonderful place to camp. It only needs a few things to literally be the perfect place to camp. Needs modern hook ups and communications access (in some way possible). Other than that it is literally heaven. If you like the woods, nature, need to get away, love to fish, or relax, holy river is the perfect place. We camped at Holly River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Driver BEWARE. This park is the tightest maneuvering park we have ever been in. Better not have a very long or high rig because it is dangerous getting through all the tall pines, low branches and tight turns. No grass, just pine needles everywhere. Not a friendly staff but maybe one. In fact, two were down right rude. We should have left before ever setting up but we were tired and this park is so far in the boonies where else would one go? West Virginia has so many wonderful parks so best to check them out first and maybe skip Holly River State Park. We camped at Holly River State Park in a Motorhome.

Deep in the mountains of WV. Not near anything and is therefore a destination unto itself. Tight, twisting roads to get there from I-79. But - well worth a week or weekend of relaxation in the WV wilderness. Great hiking, biking, and decent fishing. The campground is well spread out and so shaded in the valley, that at 6pm, you think it's 9 or 10pm! Beautiful place! We camped at Holly River State Park in a Motorhome.
