We pulled in at the end of a rainstorm - sun just coming out - fresh-cut grass - trees-in-bloom-smells...glad we sucked it up and made the impromptu commitment to do the 5 miles of nowhere-to-turn-around-anyway hardball road. The previous reviews were spot-on, however we saw the road as a welcome respite, after the 50+ miles of uphill and hard rain. Four any-size pull-throughs, but would avoid the one with no gravel yet (we were the only ones in the place on a Thursday nite); full hookups all four. There are 42 numbered sites - all grass except 1-3; gravel roads in good repair, a throw-'em-back fishing pond, two cabins, and a playground for smaller kids (pool not on line at this date). Wife and I enjoyed a nice walk, and the wife got her "pet-the-animal fix" with the two Shetland ponies. Most of the sites have fire rings, tables, electric, water; some are tents-only. We really enjoyed this VERY quiet place; would be a good campground to take the kids on a week / weekend campout - no wifi, and plenty to do. We camped at Whisper Mountain Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If during school year, wait until after 07:15 to depart - so you don't have to tangle with school buses on the twisty, narrow road. There is NO Walmart just down the street, so bring what you need.

The campground is the most expensive we have ever stayed at on top of that your visitors have to pay 3$ a person to walk in the campground no matter how long they stay. There was absolutely no privacy. The bathrooms are located in the house the owners live in. The small pool is in their back yard. We could only swim once the pool is pad locked and we were watched our entire stay. Maybe because we were the only people camping I'm not sure but there was absolutely no privacy. One of the owners continuously rode her side by side to make sure she was paid if there were any visitors, but if you have an atv you may not ride it in the campground you have to unload outside the gate. It does have a pond for catch and release fishing. It is a clean campground. We will not return. We camped at Whisper Mountain Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This was a nice quiet park in a wonderful setting. Lots of green grassy areas to play in and to walk the dog. The parking areas for the pull-thrus was gravel and fairly level. We had no problem with our DirecTV satellite dish locking on to a signal. The owner was friendly and helpful. My only complaint about this park is the 5 mile drive on the paved road to get to it, once you leave the main highway. The road is smooth, but it is very narrow. There are also no shoulders but a sharp drop-off on the road edge. It is also very hilly with lots of curves. For most of the 5 mile drive, the road lanes are too narrow for a normal size class A coach. I was fortunate in that we only encountered two cars on our entering and leaving the park. With the trees on either side, it would have been very difficult for two RV's to pass without damage. I really did like this park, but that 5 mile drive could be a problem. We camped at Whisper Mountain Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We found this campground to be very clean, quiet, and relaxing. It is a beautiful setting in the mountains of West Virginia with very friendly and helpful owners who live on the premises. There is a hiking trail on the property, streams running through the grounds, a small pond for fishing, a pavilion with picnic tables, and a small play area for the children. The pool was clean but it is an oval above the ground pool. Good for young children only. The sites are grass and have some trees for shade. Many campers had boats and took them to Stonewall Jackson Lake for the day. The only negative remark we have regarding this campground is that the road to it is very narrow and windy so one must be very careful driving. We will return to this campground for another relaxing and enjoyable stay. We camped at Whisper Mountain Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.
