NOT PET FRIENDLY! No one works at the gate to help new comers with questions. "Volunteers" finally came around about 5pm and were very rude. Half of the park was closed and the lake was drained so low you couldn't get to the water. Bad experience! We camped at Battle Run COE in a Tent.

We were planning to stay at the free campground a few miles back but little did we know we were arriving at the start of Gauley season so the water in the lake went down a bit each day (they release the water for the rafting). We lucked out and got an amazing spot right on the lake with an almost 360 water view. The park was busy on the weekends and about 1/3 full during the week. We stayed in September 2017 and would stay again, for as long as the park allows. Water and electric at the site, nice dump station. Great cell service (AT&T and verizon) and nice interior roads. Some trees need trimmed and they have pull thrus that are more parallel parking, not exactly big rig friendly. We camped at Battle Run COE in a Fifth Wheel.

The lack of water and sewer connections is only negative about this great family friendly campground. It is full of families having a great time. Boating is a easy and the shoreline is full of boats of all types. Spacing of the RV spots is generous. We camped at Battle Run COE in a Motorhome.

Stayed here Memorial Day Weekend and enjoyed a very relaxing time. Enjoyed kayaking and hiking across the dykes. Very nice campground. Lots are spacious and offer some shade. Site surface is gravel and features a fire ring and picnic table. Hard to get into during the summer months but worth it if you can. We camped at Battle Run COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This campground sese very heavy use during the summer months due to it's abundant amount of waterfront campsites. It is ideal for someone who wishes to boat on the pristine Summersville Lake.

The sites are basic electric only. Most have 50 amp service and some have shaded areas. We have stayed here several times in the past in different loops and have found that the spacing is adequate and the sites are good and level.

Reservations are extremely difficult to get at this campground, so you just have to keep checking back for a site. Overall, it is fairly quiet and is patrolled by the Deputy Sheriff.

My family and friends love this campground and never pass up a chance to stay the weekend. I gave an overall rating of "good" because I think for an "excellent" rating a campground needs to have more utilities at it's sites. We camped at Battle Run COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a pleasant COE campground with many sites directly on the lake. Very nice views from nearly all sites, and you can par a boat right at your site if it is lakeside. It does get crowded on weekends, but everyone was well-behaved and not noisy. I liked that the laundry facility had two working washers and two working dryers that cost just 75 cents each! Decent Verizon service. Most campsites were gravel, however the camp roads were paved, although narrow for backing in. We camped at Battle Run COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

One big warning. Do NOT let your GPS bring you from Charleston, via US 60 and state 129! It follows a very curvy road with a stream on one side and no shoulders at all. U.S. 19 from the north or south might be longer, but is much faster, especially with a big vehicle.

This is a beautiful campground with a park-like setting. We saw lots of wildlife, some in our site. The staff was super friendly and helpful. There was no WiFi, but our Verizon worked OK. We would gladly stay again. We camped at Battle Run COE in a Travel Trailer.

True waterfront camping. You can swim right off your site and have your boat anchored feet from your camper. Sites are well cared for and everyone was nice. The lake along the shore line drops off quickly. The bathrooms are decent and clean. When the campground is full, it can have that crowded feeling so be prepared. We do think it would be better if the number of cars at each site were kept to one per site. There is plenty of parking within a hundred or so feet of most sites. Campers in the row behind the lakefront sites can hardly see the lake because so many sites have multiple cars stacked like sardines! We camped at Battle Run COE in a Fifth Wheel.

I was not pleased with this campground. To begin with, they do not allow pets, Battle Run does not have full hookup and at times it would take a few hours of waiting in line to dump your tanks. It does have a nice lake, but again, I was not pleased with this campground all in all. We camped at Battle Run COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We liked the campground overall but were surprised by some things too. We had a few nights with groups of people playing music late at night, to say the least the quiet hours didn't appear to be enforced. There also seems to be alot of folks that like destroying the mens toilets by either plugging them with TP or defecating on the seats, it was a nightly occurrence. We had a toilet building near our site that was lit real poorly so a flashlight was a must to check things out. Also the amount of garbage left on our site was surprising with a ton of smokers leaving butts on the ground, along with pop tabs or beer caps, etc. This park seems to be used by alot of locals with large groups of folks knowing each other. So we were surprised by the lack of chit chat we experienced in WV on previous trips. The lake was great and we even rented a boat from Summersville Lake Marina which was alot of fun. The swim area was nice, but became deep quite quick. We even swam out from our site, and life vest are a good thing to have in the deeper waters. The staff was nice and the restrooms were cleaned daily. There was a nice playground, along with horseshoes, volleyball and basketball areas. We camped at Battle Run COE in a Travel Trailer.
