We wanted to stay in the La Crosse area, but there are not too many options for big rigs. Stayed here in our 45', Class A motorhome for a week. Location is pretty good for La Crosse & Onalaska, seeing the area, Mississippi, etc. 8-9 mi to Walmart, shopping, restaurants, chain stores, etc. If you have kids, this is a great park w/lots of activities, play areas, pools, etc. Busy with families on the weekends. If no kids, you are paying for things you don't use. There are many park models & seasonal campers that take up the majority of the waterfronts/waterview sites. There is a handful of premium sites with a water view. The pull-thru area for RVs has no view of the water. Sites here are mostly level, picnic table, fire ring. Narrow paved roads with long grassy sites. FHU worked fine. NO Cable, No Wifi without paying an extra ladder of fees. Even paying the "resort" camping rate which should have included wifi at a minimum. Luckily, my Verizon Jetpak got 2 bars. Our deposit was also $250 as another camper mentioned here. For big rigs, you may want to ck your site first before pulling in. Several sites had tree branches that needed trimming and would have brushed our coach or roof. Our site required minimal trimming once we extended the slides. If you are a TT or Encore member, you probably love this place. - 2SimsNanRV

This is a beautiful campground with two pools and tons of things for kids to do. Unfortunately we normally don't use any of the attractions, this or any campground offer. The park is very clean and well kept. Their camp store is pretty sparse. The biggest problem I had was when I called to reserve a site they required a $250 deposit. I have never heard of that large of a deposit. I'm use to paying for one or two nights as deposit but not this much. We were in site 199 and had pretty good DISH reception once I put my portable Dish antenna away from a tree and on top of a Picnic table. There are so may things to do in the Lacrosse area its impossible to suggest any one. - jackmroz

On beautiful Lake Neshonoc, this campground is one of the most beautiful we've stayed in. Sites are well spaced, easy to get into and level. The check in staff were very friendly and took time to assure we had plenty of brochures and knew where all the fun stuff could be found. When we arrived, it was mid-week and the place was pretty empty of people. Lots of long-term rigs were set up but there were plenty of open spaces to be had. We visited over Memorial Day weekend and it filled up quickly on Friday and emptied out again on Monday. They have a very full activities calendar and the place is perfect for families; children of all ages were having a summer to remember. Folks were very friendly. - Tessa & Toadee on the Road

We stayed overnight at this campground on our way out West from Ohio. It is first come - first serve and had no trouble getting a site. It is a very large park and the campground served its purpose. Our site was not very easy to get into, but we managed. The angle to get into this site is not ideal for a large fifth wheel. There are other sites that would be better. The area is very peaceful and there are some nice sites on the creek/river. Friendly and helpful staff. Cash or check only when we stayed. - Michele1970

Nice quiet campground with a couple different parks and a nice fishing pond that was great for the kids. - Kimmer04mae

Too bad a Veteran's Memorial Park doesn't give veterans a discount! We only stayed here one night passing through. Site was not level but we didn't spend much time fussing with it for one night. Wish the lady would have told me that another site was paved and available just down a few spots. No wifi but we had a strong Verizon signal. Didn't use the facilities so can't comment on that. - 2VetsRVing

We arrived after the office was closed, but several family members of the park owners came to assist us. They live within view of the office. Then the owner arrived. The service was friendly and efficient. The site was beautiful and very spacious. It was level and much longer than we needed. Very quiet. The weather had been cold and rainy, but they were cleaning the pool to prepare to open it. There are three private showers with doors that lock. They are large enough that a parent could take a couple of small children in to bathe them without being crowded. There is a women's rest room with three toilets and three sinks. The men's room had at least one toilet and one urinal. Everything was clean and modern. There was a playground with plenty of space for larger families. We only stayed one night and it was totally worth the few extra miles to get there. We would definitely stay there again. I didn't rate it excellent because there was no sewer hookup at the site. This was no an issue for us. There was a very convenient dump station near the exit. The dumpster was there as well. - GandolphJames

Peaceful, quiet and shaded, yet we were able to get DirecTV reception. There are a few level sites. Pool was closed. Trash was left in the fire pit. Was 5 miles off the interstate so wouldn't recommend it for a single night. - CgAZrv

I contacted the owner of the park a few days prior to our visit. We were looking for another campground that was closer to where we need to be when we visit the area. We camp several times a year, this was not to be a one time visit. The website and my conversation painted a much different picture that the reality. The one restroom was not a restroom but a privy. She told me they clean the restrooms several times a day; the trash was running over in it when we arrive on Monday and was not emptied during our 3 day stay. On Tuesday of our visit we made several trips to the office to purchase ice and wood, there was nobody in the office all day. I tried calling. Contrary to what she had told me on the phone initially the phone is not always answered, we had to drive into town for wood and Ice. Tuesday night there was a bad storm, the park was nearly empty except for the "permanent seasonal" trailers. We ask about late check out to dry out our equipment some, the site was not reserved by anyone, we were charged $10.00 for 3 hour. Early in the morning they made rounds checking on the trailers and roads, the couple of us that were tent camping were on our own. If our road was washed out we may still be there. The features around the park the website talks about are either nonexistent or broken. The snack bar is closed, however she did say if you wanted something she could fix it. They charge $3.00 if you want to swim in the pool. The only positive I can say is the site was large and upon initial check-in she did deliver wood to the site for me. If you are looking for a place to permanently park your trailer this maybe a good option, if not stay away, not only do those in the trailers look down their noses at you, you are not existent to the owners. - RobinH

This is an older park with probably over half the sites used by seasonal. Most of their sites were well maintained. As previously mentioned there is no sewer. Electric was good. We had a site on the river. This is the west branch so don't expect to see the barges. Enjoyed sitting out with a fire watching the boats gong by. - PRG

Wonderfully manicured and maintained campground on an island in the Mississippi River. Very large sites with tons of open space. Our site backed right up to the river with picnic table and firepit. Paved roads easy to navigate, Concrete runners surface and nicely maintained grass. Pull thru sites in the center of the park and back-ins around the outside perimeter. 50AMP and water, but no sewer. They do have a mobile pump out service. Lots of shade trees, but that restricts satellite signal in most sites. Didn't miss it as the view was worth it. Wifi available and average. Cell signals strong. - Todd Hancock

Pettibone RV Park is a city park that is leased by a private management firm. It is located on an island on the Mississippi River just outside of the city of La Crosse. The opening date of the park may vary do to flooding of the Mississippi, our early May reservations were cancelled because of flooding. We stayed for eight nights in late June and the park was in good condition. The sites have concrete tire strips for the RV wheels that are level and a concrete patio. The park has a number of seasonal sites that are well kept and separate from the short-term users. All the sites are generous in size and since we stayed for a week we got an oversize site. Be aware that there is no sewer hookup which caught us off guard since I asked for a full hook up when I called for reservations. After prodding, the attendant said they had a service to drain tanks twice a week for ten dollars a visit. Since the park is on the river there are a lot of insects so be prepared, we used a screen tent. The road to the sites is asphalt and back in sites require you to back in from the passenger's side so it takes some skill. The sites are well shaded and drained well when it rained over several days. - Done With It

Tight maneuvering for big rigs. Only 3 big rig sites compatible with 40+ foot rigs. No sewer connections. Lots and lots of mosquitos!!! WiFi almost non-existent and very slow when you could get it. But right on the river. Easy water access. - BBGuy

This park is located close to the Mississippi river which means you have a beautiful view of the sunset over the bluffs across the river in Minnesota. It is a large park and we were in the new sections which has paved parking sites. In some of the older sites you park on the grass. The staff was welcoming when we checked in. The park has fishing, boating and nature trails. - mountainfan
Sep 2016 - $27.00
The park is about 2 miles from the main highway along a narrow, winding, two lane paved road. Trees encroached on the road and vehicles were parked on the actual roadway narrowing the width of the road to a hazardous condition. The main highway out of La Crosse is not in good condition. But a few miles from the turn off to the park, the road was recently resurfaced. The interior roads are paved but the design creates a challenge and potentially a hazard to larger MHs. The roads are narrow (some oneway) and some of the turns are tight. The site parking pads are either grass or asphalt. A large majority of the grass parking pads have significant challenges to leveling an RV. Some of the sites have steep slopes. Some of the parking pads near the river were subject to flooding. The sites are the largest that we have encountered in our travels of the lower 48 states. Privacy is established by distance. The water & electric connections were some distance from the parking pads requiring long runs of cord/hose. They had an outside table and moveable fire ring. Part of the park is covered with trees and another portion is open to the sky allowing for satellite reception. There seem to be a lot of long term residents called "Seasonal Campers". Those sites impacted the visual appeal of the park. Only WiFi reception was at the camp store. It was a long distance from the paved parking pad sites to the store. Dumpsters located throughout the park. The dump stations were located towards the rear of the park. One of them was along the main road in a congested area creating a traffic obstruction. The park did offer a pump out service for $25. Although the county has a leash law, many dogs were allowed off leash and there was no enforcement of the law. There was no designated, fenced dog area but there was sufficient area to exercise along the park roads and in the adjacent day use area but dogs off leash posed a potential hazard. - bsb814

Good spot to stop if late during the day and traveling through. We will use it again just to get off the road. Open sites that are very easy to get into. I wish more small towns would have sites like this for the passerby. - stetwood

We came here to see Ft. McCoy. Have back surgery coming up so we couldn't do any of the wonderful things there are to do up here. But I'm a veteran and I was interested in seeing the post. You need to go to the Visitors Center, show a photo ID and they'll do a background check on you right there. All the services are top knotch and well cared for. - DJanis
Jul 2017 - $30.00
I enjoyed staying here. A lake, numerous trails, playgrounds, fishing, putt putt golf, canoes and kayaks to rent, volleyball court and small store. We saw deer around the area a lot. The sites are spacious (we were on the other side of the lake and I felt they were bigger there). My only complaint was the little gnats that seemed to be everywhere. But that is not the campgrounds fault. Its nature. The cost was $30 for 5 days and $45.00 for two and Sundays are free unless it is a holiday weekend. - JulieLH

This is an outstandingly clean and spacious park! Office people were very friendly and courteous. Spaces are spread out and easy to access. Only real issue we had was the $50 per night when there was no WiFi nor cable. Other was the live heavy artillery fire until midnight one of the two nights we spent there. It IS next to a Nat. Guard base and they do have to train. - Walt Bennett

Very well kept RV park, with very large, grass sites. Fire ring and picnic table at each site. We were there to visit friends and relatives in the area so we didn't use the facilities. The section we were in had young trees, so no real shade available. The only negatives we encountered were monetary in nature. Expensive (in our opinion) at $47/night for 30 amp with water, but no sewer (dump station is available). They do have FHU, deluxe pull through sites for over $60/night. Was surprised to be told when we arrived around 1 p.m. that there was a $5 charge for arriving early (before 2 p.m.). - donpen

Wonderful experience! The owner is so nice and helpful! She really wants her guests to be happy and have a good time! The grounds are nicely landscaped, they have a great playground, basketball, volleyball, horse shoes, and cabana with wifi. A HUGE clean swimming pond! We really enjoyed that! The trees around the property are mature and beautiful! - tammiann61

Very pricy quiet mostly seasonal campground that only allows 1 night during the week when there is very few people there. Weekend requires 2 nights. Grass and dirt sites that are at back of campground next to storage area for overnighters. They have a sand beach and pool? next to restrooms and pay showers which is why showers are dirty. Good electric water and sewer locations. Excellent Wi-Fi and OTA channels but no cable. Good for a overnighter. - Biggyrat

We stayed here for just under three months in late summer of 2018. This is a nice family oriented park with mostly seasonal spots, but enough weekend spots to fill up fairly quickly.
This campground is family owned. There is a ton of activity for the entire family, including alot of outdoor games for kids and adult events at the bar. The people here are very nice. Staff was professional if not overly friendly. Bar food and drink is very good. - Aimee K
Aug 2007 - $25.00
This campground is considered a "party campground" by local residents. We went with 2 other families and unfortunately picked "Poker Run - Harley Motorbikes" weekend. Not many campgrounds in the area have weekend openings so we went anyway. Despite some obvious problems (loud bar & a band playing till midnight) we had a good time. The pool was clean (someone told us the state just made them clean it- that makes me wonder). The bathrooms were fair - older - only 1 house and they were a bit grimy but usable. The playground was older but my kids still had fun. The Black river was awesome and kept all the children occupied the whole day. We fished but didn't catch anything, we swam, and built many sand creations. I would go again to give this place another chance. - travlin-with-tots

I have heard they are strict on noise after dark. We were traveling with other families and we get kind of loud after the kids go to bed but I am happy to say, we did not have any problems. This is a small campground with very nice looking cottages near the camping sites. The beach is awesome and my dog loved doggie dip hours. I probably won't bring my dog next time because you have to give a $25 pet deposit and sign a form with their dog rules. While we love doggie dip hours, we couldn't bring our dog to the beach any other time of day and they did drive by in a cart to check when I walked my dog down to the beach. The playground was satisfactory, kids had fun, the 1-2 block walk to the falls was worth it - great photos. The sites were good sized, and the price was reasonable. We did the 1 hour $25 canoe trip which was perfect for all our young kids and they allowed my dog to come! - travlin-with-tots
