We camped for 4 nights in the Nicolet South Bay Campground, one of several campgrounds in Peninsula State Park. The park is a well-known tourist destination in Door County, WI, with many hiking/biking trails, water sports and beautiful views. We camped near the bathroom/shower building, so the location was convenient. The building needs updates. There were many broken tiles in the showers along with mildew in the grout. There was plenty of hot water. The women's bathroom had a leaking toilet, causing the floor to be constantly wet. My friend, who camps annually at the campground, said it has been leaking for more than a year. The sites are good sized with some shade. Most have vegetation that provides privacy between sites. Sites are graveled, however, our site had gravel only where our trailer was parked. Gravel was missing from the rest of the area, making walking on the muddy ground (lots of recent rain) necessary. Other sites were completely graveled. Quiet hours are not enforced, and our neighbors were noisy until 1:00AM the last night we were there. All sites are back-in. The popularity of this park makes reservations necessary if you want electricity. Convenient 2-lane dump station. It is a beautiful part of Wisconsin so worth a visit even with the needed upkeep in this campground. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are many hiking and biking trails. Water sports and bikes are available to rent at beach. Nearby communities have shops and restaurants. There is an 18 hole golf course in the state park and a par 3 course as well. An amphitheater has plays during the summer. Door County is known for its many vineyards and wineries as well as its cherry orchards and products made from cherries. It's a great place to vacation!

Overall Rating:

First time staying at this park and will definitely be back. It is difficult to get in to during the summer months so I was able to book for almost a week in October. The weather was chilly and very windy during our stay but we still had a wonderful time. The site was a bit difficult to get in to but I got it after a few tries. There is a lot of good hiking here as well as fishing, swimming and water sports (during warmer weather), and quick-ish access to all that Door County has to offer. The Eagle Bluff Lighthouse is in the park and the tour is interesting and good views from the top. The sunset from the kayak launch in the Tennison Bay Loop was unbelievable! Park was quiet and super peaceful. The trail that runs along the lake is beautiful as well as popular in the AM hours. Can't wait to go back! Dump station has 2 lanes which was helpful but I can see it getting crowded on a summer Sunday. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

LOVE this Park. Lots of campsites, great views. Curiously, there is only ONE fresh water fill for campers and ONE dump station for a huge park. We've been there for the past three falls and will be there again this year. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

Big Rig? No Way! We tried to camp here in our 45' motorhome. Reserve America stated we could fit in site 421. We could barley navigate the roads in the campground to get to the site. We could not get into the site. Letftband stayed at Egg Harbor down the road. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed one week which included Labor Day in Nicolet Bay South in an electric only site, no water hookup. Campground was full, family oriented. An abundance of walking/biking paths throughout the whole park with beautiful vistas that overlook Lake Michigan or the Bay of Green Bay. There is a boat launch area. The sandy beach was a short walk away where you could rent kayaks and bikes. Wi-fi is only available at the concession stand area at this beach. Golf course in the park. There are plenty of overlooks and pullouts to view when driving the toad. There is a lighthouse. This is one of our favorite destination campgrounds. Very popular, you should make a reservation. Fish Creek is right outside the park. Then there are many small quaint towns in Door County along the shore of Lake Michigan. Beautiful scenic drive. Many opportunities for shopping, dining, tour boat rides, fish boils.

The park had lots of things to see and do. Verizon signal was practically non-existent. We do not have a booster, that might have helped. We were able to use dish. Great location in Door Harbor.

Negatives...it definitely needs trimming at corners on the roads and entrances to sites. We scratched side of trailer at a tight turn which was disappointing. We were in a 36' 5th wheel in Tennison CG, site 440. The site itself was large and very private.

I'm not sure we would stay again unless we knew some major trimming and/or a few trees were cut to make accessibility easier. We loved the park itself. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

There's a reason this is one of the most popular State Parks in Wisconsin. Beautiful park with lots of campsites and great biking & hiking trails. Stayed in the Nicolet Bay South campground this time, some of the roads through this campground are twisty and could be a squeeze for a large rig, but had no trouble with our 24 footer. Bigger trailers and Class A's would have an easier time navigating the Tenneyson Bay campground. WI State Parks open up for reservations 11 months in advance and this park fills up quickly.

This site is right at the end of a road through the campground making it super easy to back into. Also the closest site with electric to Lake Michigan. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Park is right in the heart of the most scenic part of Door County between Fish Creek and Ephraim. Park has a nice golf course, lots of shopping, dining, and tourist attractions nearby. Nelson's hardware store right outside the park on Hwy. 42 has anything you may need.

Biggest negative for this park is the signage, or lack of it in places & locations where signs can be seen giving directions approaching the park, the campground area in particular. They were next to non existant. The entry area, when finally found, is very difficult to navigate with a large trailer, though interior roads are very adequate. It is a big park & CG & again signage, enough & appropiatley placed, is seriously lacking. Also tree trimming needs to be done in sites which accomodate the taller 5ers. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

When we checked in we were surprised that the dump station wasn't in service, with no projected in-service date. That's pretty important when none of the sites have sewer. Also had to buy an out of state park sticker for $35. In addition they charge $2 extra per night for out of state. Wisconsin is the only state park system I've stayed in that charges more to out of state campers for a site fee. The bathhouse directly across from our site didn't have showers but I did find one in another section that did. The power service looked like it had recently been upgraded. Our site was rather muddy from recent rains. Verizon cell service was sketchy and we could only pick up a couple of channels on the TV. It's a beautiful area but the campground was a little disappointing. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

This is the gem of the Wisconsin State Park system, both for location and camping activities. There are five different campgrounds, two with electric hookups and three without. Fabulous hiking and biking in the park - well-marked trails. Busy in summertime - make reservations early! Decent showers but they were private, free, and had hot water. Be sure to check out the American Folklore Theatre inside the park (walking distance from Tennyson Bay Campsites) - they feature locally written, very enjoyable theatre under the stars appropriate for all ages - a highlight of camping in this state park! We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

Park is located in a great location to see Door County. Sites are large but some had very little rock and all became a swamp when it rained. Mosquitos are a big problem---bring lots of spray. Restrooms/Shower rooms are old and some could use an update. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

What a difference a year makes. This park (along with other WI state parks) had some vintage and not-so-reliable electric posts. However, a recent state initiative has resulted in 50 amp upgrades to several state parks, including Peninsula SP. We camped in Weborg Campground which typically requires reservations a year in advance. Very private campground that is right on the lake. Verizon 4G service is good. Nearby Fish Creek has many shops and good restaurants. In fact, most of Door County itself is a destination. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

We camped in Weborg site #104: one of the best sites in the park as it has a direct view and access to Lake Michigan. There are only a handful of sites in Weborg which makes it very secluded and private for a state park. Plus, you're in walking distance of Fish Creek which has great shops and restaurants. We could not have asked for a better location. However, like many older Wisconsin state parks, the electric hookups can operate poorly, especially in bad weather: like we had during our stay at Weborg. After a rain storm we were unable to get an air conditioner running off our electric pedestal. And in 90 degree humid weather a great location was not enough to keep us here and we left early: after reserving the site a year in advance. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Motorhome.

We camped at site #103 in the Weborg loop of Peninsula State Park.. This is a 30 amp electric only site. We've camped here before in a smaller (35') Class A, but it was difficult maneuvering our 41-footer. We clipped several bushes and trees trying to get in and out of our site. Also, site #103 is not very level. We wanted to pull into the site with the front of out RV facing the lake, but could not do it as we would have been too out of level. So we ended up backing in. However, this loop of Peninsula SP is well worth it. The views are breathtaking. This park has superb hiking and biking trails. In addition Fish Creek is a short drive (or bike ride) away and has an abundance of restaurants and stores. We camped at Penninsula State Park in a Motorhome.
