Jul 2018 - $25.00
We took our camper to Blackhawk for a week over the July 4th holiday. The long drive back to the park from the highway is on a ridge with some sharp curves and, once in the park, it's all paved but steep hills to climb to the camp site areas which are divided into three different hills. You need to purchase a park sticker for the day $7, or annual$26. The sites are laid out well with good room between them. But they were not designed for long rigs. Ours and the one next to us slope off at the back. We needed to really block up to get the jack stands to do any good and still keep the front of the camper off of the driveway. There is a beach and dock down the hill which is well maintained. Bathrooms there, but just porta-potty's near the site. Pontoon rental was available and, when it broke down, we were towed back and given a different one. I did like this camp area better than the group site we've used in the past since it had the 30 amp hook-up where the group site was just a long cord to the pavilion for power. No water or sewer hook-ups, but they do have a fill and dump station, again up another steep hill, so we filled but didn't go back up to dump before leaving. - MicknPeg
May 2018 - $23.00
Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area is a public run facility, so expectations are somewhat different than a private campground or resort. I knew in advance there would be no full hook-ups, just electric and only 30 amp. I knew there would be no WiFi or cable TV, so I did not score them down for those lost features. This park was designed primarily for tent camping or trailers. Large motorhomes will have limited sites to choose from. When we checked in, we were told that the site that had been reserved for us might not be what we want. So, a park worker and I drove around the park looking at available sites so I was able to pick one that was suitable. I was very pleased with the selection. The park has asphalt interior roads and gravel pads. The park is quite hilly, and the degree of pad levelness is variable. Ours was fine. The sites are huge, but the pads are not much wider than a motorhome. It is a very scenic area with rolling hills and mounds. I chose Blackhawk Lake because of its proximity to an event in nearby Muscoda. I was very happy with Blackhawk Lake and will definitely return. - Martini
May 2013 - $55.00
We camped in a group electric site with a truck camper, a pop up and a travel trailer, along with 8 tents. Our site was much smaller than expected, not at all level. The group site area is far away from the rest of the camping area. It has one toilet house that has limited facilities (one toilet for the men and two for the women), however, the staff kept them clean. We took a ride around the campground and it seemed that the single sites were mostly nicer (spacious and level) than the group sites. Nice area overall, especially for people who like to fish, as well as camp. I would stay again, but in a single site. - SueBee

This place is a little gem! Grassy village park, nice & quiet, just wind in the trees. We were the only campers there, in the middle of August! PassportAmerica got us $50 with water for just $15. There's a dump station on site, also hot showers; 50c for 5 minutes, plenty of water pressure. Be sure to ask about 50A availability, if you need it, looks like there are only a few, but plenty of 30A. Only caveat; you're parking on grass & the ground is soft, especially after rain. I pulled forward about 20 feet past where I'm parked, then backed up, I'm hoping the ground is now compressed enough that I'll be able to pull out without problems. TIP: DON'T let Good Sam or Garmin GPS guide you in from the Northwest! It will take you through miles of extremely badly maintained single lane roads, literally 15 MPH! - RV-Roamer

Jul 2019 - $28.00
We camped at Governor Dodge for 3 nights. It's a very large park with several different types of terrain. Twin Springs campground, which is the subject of this review, has both electric and non-electric sites. There is a dump station and drinking water near the entrance to the campground. There are also water fountains/faucets throughout the campground. Because the weather was very hot when we were there, we did not hike, but there are hiking and biking trails as well as access to areas of interest by road. Both Twin Springs Lake and Cox Hollow Lake have swimming beaches. Cox Hollow also has paddle boat rental and a concession stand. The Cox Hollow campground has only one electric site. Our site was near the pit toilet with the showers being a short walk away. My reason for giving only 3 stars for cleanliness is that the pit toilet was not cleaned the entire time we were there as far as I could tell. It was very smelly and needs some signage reminding people to close the lid. One of the 2 "stalls" in the pit building had a light that was burned out, so it was very dark at night. Also, the 2 showers in the women's bathroom had no private dressing areas, so you had to undress and dress in the wet shower stall (no bench or hooks) to have any privacy. Sites 292E or 293E are good if you want to be near the bathrooms and showers. They are quite far from many of the sites, as you can see by the campground map on line. Overall, this is a very nice park in the Driftless area of WI with something to do for everyone. - Eldereaglewatchers
Oct 2018 - $30.00
A beautiful park in the driftless region of SW Wisconsin. The Twin Valley campgrounds have both electric and non electric sites. They are large secluded and many offer beautiful views of the valleys and surrounding forests. Water spigots are placed throughout the sites and the dump station is conveniently located. The One Downside is that many of the sites have entrances that are on an incline-or sometimes a decline. The actual pads are gravel and are mostly level. This makes setting up camp a trial but once that's done, this park is a treasure. Fall is particularly lovely. - erosenbe
Sep 2016 - $40.00
This park is very expensive for non Wisconsin residents. If you plan to stay over 1 night or at any other Wisconsin state parks you should purchase the out of state park decal which will give you a 50% reduction. The entrance attendant did not offer this option so we did not know until after reading literature. In addition, if you are a walk in you must choose a site before entering from a map with no pictures or descriptions. With all that said this is a park which has a lot to offer. Most sites are very large and private with options from complete shade to sunny. There is only 30 amp service which was adequate in fall weather. There are potable water spigots around the park but not at individual sites. We had antenna service and adequate Verizon but no Sprint. There are miles of well maintained trails which intersect and allow leashed dogs. All had benches along the trails. There are 2 lakes with swimming and boating and ample parking and picnic areas. The only trash containers are at the dump station near the park entrance. There are no cans in camping loops. We would definitely stay again and would purchase the state park decal. At $20 it would be great price. We gave it an 8 for the cost and fact that our site had no grass and was muddy. There were many nicer sites for our needs but as we could not look they were not an option. - bbmidwife

Lovely place to stay. Standard wooded RV park with some play structures and dump station. - JenJen333
Sep 2018 - $36.00
I think it was a seasonal campground until the new owners took over. They do need to trim dead trees that could be an issue with a storm. Our site was a good size and we were able to put a large screen house on it. Owners (woman) let seasonal campers do whatever they want, not following rules. DOGS OFF LEASHES! No pool. Pretty boring. I didn't find anything special about this campground. - tammiann61
May 2018 - $36.00
We camped at Fireside to be more in the "woods" and real camping. The grounds are quiet, and the sites were spacious, although ours was a bit sandy. All was functional at our full hookup site. The owners are very helpful and friendly, in fact were so kind as to mail us back our water pressure regulator after we forgot it on the spigot when we left. The playground area kept the grand kids busy and they have some kids activities on the weekend. - camperkatie

Mineral Point is an unknown gem of a town: a community of artists in a historically significant downtown, close to Taliesin, the House on the Rock, and various "Governor Dodge" attractions. If the fairgrounds are not in use, you can camp there for $20 a night! It's a big open field with light poles--most of which have 50 amp hookups and even water taps. After those light poles are used up, there's still plenty of space to park... and the price is right. Call the number if you want to confirm availability, and then deposit your $20 in the (unlabeled) drop box that is both hard to find and in plain site near the entrance to the fairgrounds. We had 50amp service and water while we were there. Level ground, no neighbors, and a great sunset. Couldn't ask for more. - Thiel

Jan 2012 - $20.00
We were here in January with the scouts. in the winter they allow scouts or youth groups to camp in the cave. the kids have a blast camping and exploring in the cave. in the summer they have guided cave tours. They have the best food I have ever had at a campground, pancakes and sausage in the a.m., home made Sloppy Joe for lunch and some of the best fried chicken and mashed potatoes I have ever had for dinner. The campground itself is older, it has been open for tours for over 100 years and the campground opened after that. The campground itself is OK. I took a walk through it because it was nice out for a change. It`s a little tight, I think I could stick my 35 foot travel trailer in about 4 of the sites the rest are good for about a 25 footer! Hookups looked to be in good condition. One side of the campground looks over a nice valley, beautiful setting! The have canoe trips down the close by Wisconsin River and the longer trips they cater the food from the campground to the stops along the way. The campground does have a small mini golf course, and they are talking about putting in a pool in the next year or two. The bathhouse was kept up with pretty good considering the number of people that are using it. it does seem dirty, but I think that is because it is older and gives it that dirty feeling. All in all a nice family run campground in the middle of WI. - dodge guy

Sep 2019 - $48.00
This place is truly a resort, in the north midwest tradition. The price is high, but there is a lot to do here. They have a swimming pool AND a pond with a sand beach all around it and lots of big inflatable water toys for the kids. Also a playground, mini-golf, shuffleboard, canoe and tube rental, and an onsite restaurant/bar with good food. There is a bus that will take you up river so you can float back downstream to the resort in a canoe or tube (costs extra). Parking is on grass but the ground seemed pretty solid. Verizon worked here. - JA1800
Sep 2019 - $45.00
Very nice campground on the Wisconsin River. We enjoyed a corner back-in site with a cornfield as our back drop. Site was level, services were easy to access. Nice concrete patio with picnic table.
Could use better lighting in washrooms plus more washer & dryers (given the number of sites). - Our-Wandering-Casa
Jul 2019 - $65.00
Campground on the Wisconsin river. They have improved the place over the years and it shows. Sites are grass with concrete pads with a picnic table. Very spacious sites, some sites with room for multiple units and lots of vehicles. Most sites are open with a few trees. Good paved roads, bathhouse is basic, although there are showers in the main building too. Restaurant and bar on site, often with entertainment on the weekends. Very popular place for tubing, canoe or kayaking. They have rentals and transportation. Small pool and larger 'splash area'. Pay showers which we don't see often. Close to lots to do in the area. It is one of the more expensive parks in the area, they have raised the price as they add improvements. Some cabins to rent and many seasonal campers, however they are in a separate area of the campground. Lots of activity around the restaurant, they have an event area, however very quiet during the quiet hours. - Pamela Wick

Being on top of a hill and in a hilly region the individual sites are somewhat terraced. Be sure to hook and unhook toad on the site instead of on one of the hilly roads. While the sites are reasonably level they are just wide enough for a motor home and you can end up stepping out of your vehicle on the downhill slope. This park would have been a 10 except for that. - durham4926
Sep 2018 - $37.00
We stayed here in a 43' Class A Sept 22, 2018. I wasn't sure about the campground when I first arrived because it was on top of a large hill, but when we got to our site it was GREAT. The site wasn't perfectly level but with a few blocks it was good. The campground is maintained well and has enough trees to provide shade without too many to be in the way of pulling into your site. The bath house could use a remodel, but was clean. The main reason I gave it a 10, was what happened when we got there. Day 1 of a 2 week trip...we blew a transmission hose Saturday morning. It was either go sit in a Walmart parking lot until Monday or limp to a campground and wait until Monday for a tow to a transmission shop in Madison. We chose Tom's Campground - at least we could enjoy a camp fire for a couple of days while we waited for the shop to open. When we got to Tom's. The owner greeted us and we said we needed a site that a big tow truck could get to. He asked why and we told him we had a bad leak in a transmission line. I showed him a video of the leak and he said he could fix that and would be up later that evening. At about 8pm, he brought his nephew with him and they got under the RV removed the failed hose, took it back to their shop at the farm, built a brand new hose, came back and installed it in about an hour. Now we are back in business, we will not lose a couple of days in a shop somewhere. It was AMAZING!! Talk about a full service Campground. SW Wisconsin is a great area to visit. lots to see and do. Of course we will stay at Tom's Campground. - VanSickles_RVing_NatlParks
Jun 2018 - $30.00
When we travel in our RV, we don't really want a lot of bells and whistles. We don't use the pool or other amenities. We like it clean, quiet and peaceful--a great description of Tom's. We were situated at the top of a hill, and woke each morning to singing birds and the smell of newly mown grass. The only reason I didn't give Tom's 10 stars is that it doesn't have sewer connections, and we had to use the dump station when we left. - novastorm

Sep 2017 - $21.00
When we checked in, the owner/manager asked if we have family in the area. We thought that was a strange question, because we do - but how did he know that? We quickly realized why he asked. This is not a campground that transients happen to be passing by, or that has a tourist attraction that draws travelers from far reaches. Most visitors to this campground are seasonal and probably locals. Some units are so permanent they have decks, sheds, permanent porches, etc., built up. Some are more rundown than others. There are also a few worker-campers living here. One of the most popular features is access to ATV trails and roads. On the weekends almost everybody was riding, and those who didn't have an ATV had a golf cart for running around the campground. Most of the campground has big beautiful shade trees. Out site was on the far edge of the property on an open piece of land next to a corn field. That part was fine, but it was one of the most unlevel sites we've ever tried to set up on. We even requested to move one site over (which they accommodated) and we used every block we have for the tires and jacks. The step was so high off the ground we had to get more blocks to create a first step. These sites were also not angled, which made it challenging to pull a MH in, but most other units were 5th wheels and trailers. As busy as the place was during our September stay, quiet hours were observed, restrooms were maintained, sites were left clean, we didn't have any problems (once we leveled). Lake Joy is small, but there's a nice beach area, water toys, paddleboats, boat ramp, etc. We stayed for a month and our rate was $633. We would return if visiting family in the area again. - Roaming Together
Jul 2017 - $40.00
We stayed for the Fourth of July weekend in a travel trailer in a pull-through site with water and electric. There are no full hook ups unless seasonal sites. We paid way too much for a site that just has water and electric. There was some miscommunication I thought it was full hook up when I reserved it. The bathrooms and shower area are really dirty and very dated, with very thin, almost see-through, shower curtains. There was heavy usage because it was a busy weekend, but it doesn't excuse the fact that the water just trickles out for the showers. We tried to do some laundry because we had a bed wetting incident in our camper and all the washing machines were broken but there weren't any signs that said they were broken so we loaded our money in it and it wouldn't start we did get our money back but were unable to wash the items. The 2 beaches are very small and crammed. Staff seemed friendly but we didn't interact with them very much. Not very many activities scheduled, just a outdoor movie, hay ride, DJ dance. Seems like everyone has a golf cart and they're everywhere at all hours. We would not come back. Our automatic levelers did have a hard time leveling our camper in our site. We did have a very nice picnic table. - Mamaglamper
Jun 2012 - $45.00
Very friendly campground but not really for big rigs. This is a beautiful campground but looks to be mostly for a summer family 'get away' for those with small RVs or a permanent summer spot. Roads are very narrow but two-way traffic exists with many unsupervised children in the roads. We stayed in a pull through site but it was impossible to pull through and had to back out. These sites are all very un-level. Also, very expensive for only water and electric. Our neighbor had roof damage from just trying to get back to the pull throughs (said entire roof would need replacement). We had no damage from this stay but also were more than very cautious on the roads and would just stop instead of trying to pass anyone on the internal roads. - puppylover
