7 RV Parks near Merrill, Wisconsin
Jul 2016 - $44.00
This is a beautiful State Park. The $44 fee included out-of-state visitor fee of $11. This is really camping with heavy woods and campfires. We had 30 electric only for this price. Should have stayed longer. - W Davidson
Jun 2016 - $28.00
We were concerned about being able to fit and called the night before and were told that 42' RV's (we're 38') have been here, so we were ok. When we arrived the ranger was concerned that our rv wouldn't fit, so now we were concerned again. Ended up, we had no problem getting into our spot, and there were several spots we would have been comfortable in. The road to the campground was tighter than the campground road, so no need to worry once you arrive at the campground.
The sites are hard packed dirt, with lots of space between them and lots of trees overhead, no satellite reception here. Our site was pretty muddy (not the kind you get stuck in, just the kind you track around), since they there had been a lot of rain recently and the mosquitos were pretty bad because of the moisture. Our site was relatively level, but many others weren't.
The park itself is quite nice with lots of hiking trails and the lake for swimming and fishing. We enjoyed exploring the park, but were limited in what we wanted to do because of rain and bugs. Still, it's a nice park and campground and I would return, if in the area. - Uno Mas

The park is about 10 miles off of Hwy 51. You will go through Merrill and watch your speed (mostly 25mph). Definitely a speed-trap town. The park has a very large station for registration/check-in. Staff was friendly. Roads are very narrow with a lot of low hanging limbs. I would not attempt with a large motorhome. The main road in is very narrow with large trees on both sides. Not a good place for two large rigs to meet. Campground sites are dirt/sand with a picnic table and a fire ring. They are somewhat level. Will have difficulty backing large rigs into some sites. Again, watch for low hanging limbs. Electric at site. Water stations scattered around campground. Dump station on the way out. Bathroom/showers are nasty. Showers are very grubby and not sanitary. Looks like they have not been cleaned all summer. There are two showers in men’s side for the entire campground. ATT phone reception is spotty. Verizon is better. Satellite signal practically impossible due to heavy forest cover. Campground is very busy throughout the summer. Almost everyone is local folks and they love to burn wood. Expect LOTS of smoke day and night. The State of Wisconsin requires all vehicles entering state parks to purchase a park pass. For non-residents, it is $10 per day or $35 annually. This fee is NOT included in your camping fee. I will not stay here again. - Alaska Jim
Sep 2018 - $23.00
Camped Labor Day weekend without a reservation. Plenty of open sites. Called twice and staff was helpful in providing availability and then verbal directions into the park. We have a 35' 5th Wheel and easily backed into space 6, a mostly level site. 30 amp electric at site. Water spigot for refilling our tank located nearby, with dump station available in the park. Clean, quiet campground, with secluded feeling in the forest. Enjoyed the close proximity of bicycle trails along the river. All shopping is close by. - JamulGMA
Aug 2018 - $23.00
Very nice "urban" campground. Our site backed up to the park's public areas. Site was shaded, grass and plenty of space. The bathrooms had keypads and required a code to enter. Our site was electric, filled our water tank as we entered the park. We enjoyed our stay here while we explored the area. - AlreadyGone
Jun 2017 - $20.00
Good experience. The. Ampground is convenient to shopping and restaurants. The sites are mostly shaded. Many but not all sites are big rig friendly. The dump station is a bit dofficult to access given metal posts and trees; made it with our 40' mh but not sure about anything bigger. The water supply is on the same lane as the dump station, near the end of that lane. The bathroom codes are currently 415 for men and 514 for women. Good reception for broadcast tv and for Verizon cell service. We found it to be very quiet over our 4 day stay. Sites were available at all times including the weekend. Staffing is basically non-existent; Wausau police do patrol the park. - Pktva
Sep 2006 - $24.00
This was our first trip in our first motorhome. It was the best experience. The hosts were very friendly and helpful (as were the other guests). Nice semi-private areas to park with lots of trees, I did not feel like I was at a campground, but in a private area. The area was clean, however the roads are gravel, we manuvered our almost 40' trailer around just fine. Already made reservations for next year. - cathycamping
Jul 2005 - $26.00
I stayed at this campground over the 4th of July, 2005. Oh man, this is one campground I will never visit again. The bathrooms were almost non existent. I stayed down in Mosquito Swamp and my family and I had to hike up a hill to go to the 2 stall bathroom and shower. Which my wife never did get a warm shower for her money. In fact it was difficult to get the quarters to work. The male side: well someone must have imbibed to much in the bar (on site) and made a mess of one of the 2 stalls and the walls. It was still there the next day. It finally was cleaned later that day. The pool is warm, but hazardous, it is falling apart. Bricks are missing and the chemicals are very strong. Maintenance has a lot to be desired in this campground. Looks like what was originally built has never been maintined or upgraded. Exterior safety lighting is limited to Christmas tree lights, however, the bar is nicely decorated. Maybe the owners should invest some of the money being spent there in upkeep/maintenance. It is lovely here but the deterioration takes away from the beauty of the location. If had not been for the seasonal campers and their assistance, like providing firewood and a good time this holiday weekend would have been a bust. As my family and I walked around you could tell the sites of the seasonals. We stopped and talked to several and asked who maintained their sites with flowers, etc. The response being they did. At least someone cares. The owner should be grateful for their help it helps detract from the shabbiness. The playground is nice but it had animal waste in the sandbox, my children had to watch when they played there. Unfortunately there is not much good to say about this campground. Understanding this is a family campground and that quiet time is 11 pm, the owner did not need to come to us prior to that time and tell us we were being too loud. We had just all returned from the campground firework display and were dealing with children that were excited. Voices may have been at a higher pitch. For that we aplogize to any fellow camper we disturbed, but when he, the owner, approached us it was prior to quiet time and he used little tact. The owner has some issues to resolve, including his personality. When I stated my opinion he let us know if we didn't like it go somewhere else. Well I do believe I will take him up on his offer. - pahla
Jun 2014 - $25.00
This park has rapidly deteriorated over the last few years. Long-term campers have full sized refrigerators and even living room furniture outside making the entire place look trashy. The pit toilets weren't clean, were practically overflowing, and the stench was terrible. The beach has eroded and is becoming overgrown with weeds. The RV sites have become more and more unlevel. The only dump station is in an awkward place in the park where bigger rigs can't fit. Shore power from the pedestal is weak and erratic. A surge blew out one of my outlets and the power was so weak I couldn't run my AC. When I brought these issues to the owner's attention he immediately became very defensive and told me not to come back. Management is terrible! We won't be back to this park! - Cap'n G
Jun 2013 - $25.00
This park is really a mixed bag. The good are great views of Lake Alice from numerous sites and a nice swimming beach. There are boat docks and the fishing in excellent. Many mature trees also provide great shade. The bad is that there are no sites with sewer and the dump station is in a awkward place in the middle of the permanent campers sites. The pads are also extremely un-level (so bring extra boards or leveling blocks). The toilets are strictly "outhouse" style, dumping directly into the holding tank (so, it stinks). However, overall I do like this park since it offers access to beautiful Lake Alice. I'll stay here in the future. - Cap'n G
Aug 2007 - $21.00
We stayed in a campsite right along the water and rented a very nice pontoon boat. People were very friendly and helpful. Check in is at the bar and there's a new shower house with 3 mens and 3 womens showers with on demand hot water heaters--which worked great. Showers are coin operated and clean. My kids loved the beach and spent a lot of time fishing from the boat docks. I've already reserved a campsite for next year. - riverrafter
Sep 2018 - $50.00
We camped during the annual Tomahawk Motorcycle Rally. This could not be a more perfect location as its between the city of Tomahawk and the most popular venue bars. This is also called Tomahawk Campground and RV Park. If you need full hookups and are not using the campground for anything other than a place to sleep this might be the place to stay. But even that's not true as the speedway racing cars went until 1:30 in the morning on Saturday. Then on Sunday night a seasonal camper chose to run a generator until there was a complaint at 10pm. The managers are so pleasant to everyone, but that's it. The men's bathroom was out of toilet paper Saturday night and it still was not cleaned or replenished as of Monday morning. The women's bathroom had 5 stalls. Two were posted out of order and a third was in a pool of water. The campground amenities are a cheap worn out playground for kids. Sites are mid size and a combination of grass and sand. Water pressure was super low, but for us it did not matter. I don't know whether I will use them for the Rally in the future, but I don't know why anyone would stay here for any other time of year. - Wiblazer
Sep 2017 - $50.00
It is a nice campground, BUT don't do anything to make the new hosts not like you. We camped there for 10 years with a half dozen or more of our friends in adjoining sites. We made reservations the last day for the following year. 9 months later we and one other couple in there 80's received a letter saying we were a safety risk to other campers.???? No further explanation or chance to confront them. 9 months later!!!! The hosts are totally lying. We camp with 2 retired cops in our group. We are far from a threat to anyone. The half wolf pet they keep penned up there is certainly a bigger safety risk than us. - Ponytail
Aug 2016 - $30.00
Park is not very well kept. Managers house has a lot of junk around it. Park could be very nice if cleaned up. - Troyerman
Jul 2016 - $32.00
Nice place to spend a couple of nights. During the week, only two other campers in the campground: was nice and quiet. No big issue, but after staying in six other campgrounds, this one was the only one that had pay showers, assuming to save money. (But yet the men's urinal ran 24/7?)
Very friendly and courteous staff. - otdrnt
Aug 2015 - $35.00
.We called this park after showing up at another nearby park at which we had reservations and discovering that they were under a county boil order for contaminated water. We were therefore delighted when the nice lady we got on the phone at Northforest told us to come on in!
They had a very nice playground for kids, shuffleboard, tennis courts, mini golf, and a nice beach. We were in a pleasant area with forest and a lake - the campground was nice and quiet. - Starxd
Aug 2015 - $31.00
The campground is far off the beaten track. The road to it is gravel and almost a mile from the "main" road.
There were a lot of seasonal campers there. Great CG for families; playground, swimming, miniature golf, and a sort of hayride.
Sites are mostly grass. The sites they use for transients are mostly on the ends.
Wi-fi was okay. Cell reception was acceptable. Satellite depends on your site due to trees.
My main issue with the CG was the electric. There was a single box for 2 sites, both 30 amp. My neighbor for the one night I was there was in a Class A. The circuit breaker for the box (a couple of sites away) kept blowing. The manager showed us where it was and I reset it a couple of times, the breaker was Hot to the touch. Not a very good set-up. There were no sewer hook-ups in the transient area and they charge $7 to dump. - jnateg
Jun 2017 - $30.00
The owner is an older woman who lost her husband last year. This lady is crazy! She creeps on campers and only gets along with her seasonal guests. I parked my trailer there for 30 days and was only there 5 days total. Total control freak and even the season guests told me in order to stay there I had to just agree with her! She totally controlled guests, vehicles, water, firewood, and creeped around the sights at night. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone - Kerry campbell
Jun 2017 - $18.00
Very rustic old style camping. They have been making upgrades as of late I was told. Owner and person who checked me in were very nice. the campground is 50 years old and there are only a few sited for a rig like mine ( 35 MN ). on a lake but unless you have a tent or small trailer you have to stay above the lake and walk down to a boat dock. Like another camper mentioned the 30 amp service was covered by a coffee can? Even though it is very rustic it had a good location just of hwy 8 and we stayed for 1 night. The Passport rate of 18.00 was a good deal and I would stay here again. - twowoofs
Oct 2015 - $28.00
No not big rig friendly, but the owners real friendly. Pretty shady little park on a pretty lake.
I was worried that the electrical wire was exposed; it was not in conduit. Was told they had 30 amp. Never did find it, just 110. To cover the electrical switch it had a plastic Folgers coffee can you just lift it up. If it wasn't so late when we arrived I'd have left.
Really pretty lake camp ground was updated with level sites. It's a pretty park. Their website says I should get the winter rate but they said no. - JustDon
