I enjoyed my stay there. While it is a no-frills campground, it is clean and has ample grass. All of the slots are pull-through, but only one site (far end) has easy access to the dumping station/sewer. If it's available, grab it. Clear, unencumbered view of the southern sky for satellite dishes, and plenty of local channels available by OTA antenna. Small walk to downtown. Office is in a restaurant. Both restaurant and office close around noon each day. Very clean, very QUIET, which I loved. Near the schools and a short walk to downtown and bicycle trail. Would definitely stay there again when in the Madison area. - Johnny Blood

Small park with great possibilities if they would only do a little tree trimming on the entrance drive. Not very big rig friendly. My motorhome is 12' 6" high and I barely made it in and out without damage. New Glarus is such a nice little destination town and there are no other RV parks or Walmart nearby. Park is older and worn. I did not check out any of the bath facilities if they had any. Hookups are shared between two sites. On a post between the pull-through sites are four 30 amp outlets and four water hose hookups so the RVs pull in head to toe to connect. Water and electric were fine. No cable but got several local channels over the air. A dump station is located in the park. I found a free Wi-Fi that allowed me to connect. Sites are grassy, gravel and level. Grass cutting was OK. Grounds were clean and uncluttered. Park is located behind the Town Edge restaurant which closes at 2 PM. Call the restaurant for reservations. Cash or check, no credit cards. I would have been quite happy at the Town Edge RV Park and given a better rating if they had only done some tree trimming at the entrance. A State Park is located about 1 mile south. I drove through the state park to check it out but sites are suitable for an RV of any size (think tent sites). State park has pit toilets and no hookups and no showers. - whereisbill

As mentioned before, the campground is part of the cafe in town and closes are 2:00 PM. We arrived after this time and took a site, plenty open. Paid for the site the next morning when the cafe opened. Did not use the bathrooms so can not comment on their conditions. Location is great for exploring town, just walk up the street. Brewery has move out of town, up on the hill. During summer months there is a shuttle from down town to the brewery for tours. Would stay again for a night or two. - Cruisin with Cosmo

The Green County people have one side of the fairgrounds that they allow campers into. It is all grass and not level. Gave my power jacks a work out. All sites have access to power. I only saw 110, 20, and 30 amp services. There are very few sites with access to water connections, and it is first come first serve in regards to that, but there is some water hook up areas. No sewer, but there is a dump site on premises, and I saw a pump out truck drive around at least once during my day and half stay. I don't think there are showers, but there are bathrooms. There is a large sign as you pull in that says absolutely no dogs. That freaked me out a bit as I pulled in with my Husky. I think that was meant for the fairgrounds festivity areas. As no one said anything about my dog, and there were several others in there as well. Website also states nothing about no pets, so we just made sure we picked up after him and enjoyed our stay. All in all it is a very minimal accommodations campground, but the convenience factor if you're doing something at the fairgrounds is hard to beat. We walked the 200 yards right into the festival. - nippjas

Jul 2018 - $38.00
We stayed in July 2018 and absolutely loved this campground. It was right on Sugar River and was the location were they load and unload tubers. I enjoyed the lively environment. This group definitely likes to have fun. The office area has a pool table, games, lots of seating and a stage. There was karaoke the night we stayed. Many people participated. It was a blast! As I said before this was a lively crowd but quiet time (11pm) was enforced. It was by no means an "out of control" campground! Everyone stayed within their campsite and were respectful of others.. Pack Bug Spray!!! A LOT of mosquitoes on #82 & 83. We had to fog the area (twice) but our friends were across from us (53) and hardly had any bugs. - Travel721
Jun 2012 - $21.00
I was hoping for a family place, but this place was terrible for kids!!! They allow drinking with no limits, and we had drunks everywhere we went in the campground. It was loud and wild, some drunk people had screaming arguments, it was the worse experience. If you want a fun 'family' weekend, don't come here. This place is more like a college drunk fest than a family campground. I don't remember the day, except that it was in June on a weekend. - roselee
Sep 2010 - $21.00
There are lots of things to do in Green County but not very many campgrounds. We were very glad to find this one. Located right on the Sugar River with many waterfront sites. Canoe and tubing rental on site. Close to scenic and historical attractions in Brodhead, New Glarus, and other Green County towns. Campground was purchased by new owners in November 2009 and they are working hard to fix the place up. Restrooms have been completely redone and are spotlessly clean. The owners plan many other improvements as time permits. The owners are friendly as can be, and we will be using this campground for our base of operations on future trips to Green County. - John45

Jul 2018 - $18.00
Great location for bicyclists as the Military Ridge Trail runs through the park. Most sites are well shaded. My one complaint is the dump station. The road slopes away from the dump hole, enough so that I probably had about 10 gallons left in the waste tank. I solved the problem by driving the wrong direction to the dump site. Obviously not something you could do on a Sunday when everyone is leaving. - Duramax Camper
Sep 2016 - $33.00
You have to know this Park is here because there are no signs along the road. Mounds Park Road appears out of nowhere and, if you don't catch that turn, turning a rig around down the road is almost impossible. So watch carefully. After climbing a hill (mound?), we got to the campground which was pretty full, surprisingly. But there aren't many campgrounds here. We did get a site right next to the bathhouse, #28, but it had another name reserved on it. Back to the ranger station. They forgot to remove the card for folks who never showed up. Back to the site, only to find it was on a severe downhill slant. With no onboard leveling system, we used every board we had and still never really got level. Once finally settled, we really liked the site which came with electric. All sites are woodsy and private. We picked up about 20 over the air TV channels. The bathhouse is big and well maintained. The showers are large with a changing area but no curtain between shower and changing space. The weather radio plays in the bathhouse. The roads are easy to drive through, regardless of rig size, no overhanging branches and no cars forced to park on the road. We didn't use the dump station but there is potable water there to take on, if needed. Overall a nice spot. The only thing I didn't like is we had to buy a state park pass of $11 to enter and then we paid $33 for the night as out of staters. Instate folks pay $23. That's no way to encourage people to come to your state. Not a fan of this practice, WI. That's not how your neighbors treat their guests. - khorne
Jul 2012 - $19.00
We camped here during the week and there was no more than 6-7 other campsites in use. Our site was level and surrounded by lots of foliage and tall trees. The washrooms were well maintained and very clean. The showers were a nice size with a small bench. Which was great to take small children into the shower with you. A nasty storm rolled through and the park staff checked on everyone and were very friendly. The pool is large with a diving board. Also has a kiddie pool about 18 inches deep for the little ones. The downside is you must pay an entry fee to use the pool. - SkinnyMinny

We enjoyed our stay at this scenic park. Lots of shade and very quiet (we camped during the week). Husband caught quite a few fish. There is a beach and also a concession stand. Showers were clean and plenty of hot water. Also dog friendly. Would stay here again. - Southbar
Jun 2015 - $24.00
We stayed in a site without hookups, so the price was $14 for one night, plus a $10 park entrance fee since we were from out of state. I thought the $14 fee was a pretty good deal. The location of the posts with the site number on was located in a way that made it awkward backing in, and most of the sites are sloped, making leveling a challenge. We were there on a rainy day and once we unhooked the trailer slid back about an inch, even while chocked, making me wonder if we were going to slide into the ditch at the back of the site. Another minus was we had to drive quite a ways away from the campground to pay for our site assignment, then drive back. Usually, the pay/fee station is at the campground entrance. - Marsha D
Jun 2014 - $19.00
Excellent area, very close to nature, but accessible by driving some distance on narrow two lane roads. The sites appear to have been ignored for some years. Most need a treatment of crushed stone or gravel. Many sites have poor drainage. Interior roads are narrow asphalt and are deteriorating, illustrating lack of ongoing maintenance. New investment in first class restrooms and separate commodious shower rooms. Very clean and neat. Grass had not been cut or trimmed for some time and this may have contributed to our site being fairly 'buggy'. - DeltaViking

Stayed 3 nights in a class A motorhome. There are limited sites for big rigs that need full hookups but the ones they have are easy access at the front of the park. Staff was very friendly. The fee paid includes kayaks, canoes and float and they take you up the river to float or paddle down (no waiting as someone is always there to take you). Also had bounce pad, pool, putt putt which were included in activity fee. Have a large number of full time occupied sites but very well kept. Additional activity fee. - Bhm RVer
Jun 2019 - $85.00
Very clean and well maintained. Had crappy weather so didn't get to try tubing or the pool. The campground is very crowded and lively. Definitely a family atmosphere and the parents know how to have a good time. Would stay here again. - galnar
Jun 2017 - $47.00
We traveled from MN to visit relatives and attend the Monroe Balloon Rally (we stayed 6/16 - 6/19). This was the closet campground I could find via WACO. The sites are nice BUT when I booked a site via web page map it did NOT mention a hill, so I thought I was booking a site close to bathrooms and pool since there were no full hookup sites left when I booked the middle of May. Also charging a per person per day "Activity Fee" to use the pool is outrageous. There were 3 of us and a 8 month old child. I told them we were only going to use the pool and nothing else. (We only used the pool once the entire time we were there.) The bathrooms were "OK" but the showers were bad (no water pressure even on Monday morning). The Fathers Day breakfast was a nice event (the only event we attended while camping there). They should charge a fee for the activities and NOT the swimming pool. - Rjpruden

Nice quiet park close to Madison. Restrooms did not appear to be regularly cleaned, & the campground office was not open during our multi-day stay. Roads were paved. Sites are grass/stone & fairly spacious. Very nice walking/biking trail runs along the side of the campground. We got several OTA TV stations. No water/sewer at the sites, but spigots are randomly located and a dump station is available Quite a party-weekend crowd in the tent sites. - R&S
May 2019 - $23.00
This campground is in a great location to visit the Madison area. The park is used by the public but we had no issues. There is a mix of back in and pull thru sites with gravel. There are very few trees and no understory so sites are open with no privacy. Our site was very level but each site was different. The bathrooms and shower facilities are very utilitarian and stark. They are hosed out but still didn’t look very clean. Water faucets are scattered in the campground and can be used to fill your RV’s fresh water tank. - linnemj

Being on top of a hill and in a hilly region the individual sites are somewhat terraced. Be sure to hook and unhook toad on the site instead of on one of the hilly roads. While the sites are reasonably level they are just wide enough for a motor home and you can end up stepping out of your vehicle on the downhill slope. This park would have been a 10 except for that. - durham4926
Sep 2018 - $37.00
We stayed here in a 43' Class A Sept 22, 2018. I wasn't sure about the campground when I first arrived because it was on top of a large hill, but when we got to our site it was GREAT. The site wasn't perfectly level but with a few blocks it was good. The campground is maintained well and has enough trees to provide shade without too many to be in the way of pulling into your site. The bath house could use a remodel, but was clean. The main reason I gave it a 10, was what happened when we got there. Day 1 of a 2 week trip...we blew a transmission hose Saturday morning. It was either go sit in a Walmart parking lot until Monday or limp to a campground and wait until Monday for a tow to a transmission shop in Madison. We chose Tom's Campground - at least we could enjoy a camp fire for a couple of days while we waited for the shop to open. When we got to Tom's. The owner greeted us and we said we needed a site that a big tow truck could get to. He asked why and we told him we had a bad leak in a transmission line. I showed him a video of the leak and he said he could fix that and would be up later that evening. At about 8pm, he brought his nephew with him and they got under the RV removed the failed hose, took it back to their shop at the farm, built a brand new hose, came back and installed it in about an hour. Now we are back in business, we will not lose a couple of days in a shop somewhere. It was AMAZING!! Talk about a full service Campground. SW Wisconsin is a great area to visit. lots to see and do. Of course we will stay at Tom's Campground. - VanSickles_RVing_NatlParks
Jun 2018 - $30.00
When we travel in our RV, we don't really want a lot of bells and whistles. We don't use the pool or other amenities. We like it clean, quiet and peaceful--a great description of Tom's. We were situated at the top of a hill, and woke each morning to singing birds and the smell of newly mown grass. The only reason I didn't give Tom's 10 stars is that it doesn't have sewer connections, and we had to use the dump station when we left. - novastorm

Loved the park and the setting. The only electric set up they have is 30 amps but for some reason, I was only getting a 15 amp reading in my coach. It did not matter much as the location was perfect. They do have a dump station and fresh water. Plenty of room to move my 38 ft rig around. - Theshore

We stay at Babcock because it is located close to relatives. The park is small and on a busy highway but is grassy and tree covered so cool in the summer. The sites are fairly level and have a picnic table and good electricity. A dump and potable water are available. Camp hosts onsite are friendly and helpful. - mountainfan
Sep 2011 - $23.00
This small county park is actually in McFarland, not Madison, but its close enough to Madison to be a good stopover point for visiting the Madison area. The park is a simple linear park with sites on both sides of the road. All sites appeared to have electric service; ours also had a 50 amp hookup. Potable water and a dump station are located at the turnaround at the end of the short road. Traffic is heavy on the nearby road but at night things quiet down. Restaurants and gas stations are within a short walk from the park. A boat launch is accessible from the park, but with an extra fee. We stayed here two years ago while visiting relatives as well as this year, and we'd stay here again when in the area. - Jay Rutherford

May 2019 - $33.00
Excellent campsite for visiting Madison area. Easy to get to and convenient. This is a basically a city park. Small beach, playground and picnic shelters. Some site pads are grass, but most are gravel. A few sites have trees that may make it difficult for bigger rigs. All are level. Generally very quiet. Have used showers and bathrooms in the past and found them adequately clean, but old. Did not use them this visit. They are some distance from the campground. - William Custer
May 2018 - $27.00
We stayed here for 4 days to attend graduation at UW. It was a very convenient and pleasant location, despite rain (sometimes very heavy) almost all weekend. This became relevant by Monday--when we left. The park was being closed due to standing water and mud affecting virtually every campsite and the road through the park. However, this kind of thing is not the fault of anyone, and is just a fact of the terrain of the park if it rains a lot. Otherwise, we thought it was an excellent location while visiting Madison (we rented a car to get around town and left our motorhome parked safely at the campground). There is a lot of space between campsites, and grass everywhere, so it's very relaxing. The sites have gravel bases, not just grass, so there's a firm base under your RV, and grass if you are in a tent. It was quiet despite the nearby road. The lake is beautiful and, if you have a boat, you will enjoy it (there is a boat launch). As others have noted, the shower facilities are very basic but the hot water worked fine which is what matters to us! The bath house is not too close to the campground so it would be a short hike for tenters in the middle of the night. The dump and fresh water spigots are adjacent to the bath house (no fresh water at the sites.) There is a small playground and some boat tie-ups and a small swimming beach. The phone reception came in strongly. It took less than 15 minutes to drive to the UW campus and nearby restaurants. The ranger came through every day (there was no host during our weekend) and we felt very safe. We would not hesitate to stay here again. - Honeybee8888
May 2018 - $35.00
Bathrooms needed work and showers definitely needed more work. The campground is small, near a road. We were visiting friends and this park made everything convenient. We didn't spend too much time hanging around the park. - myo
