I enjoyed my stay there. While it is a no-frills campground, it is clean and has ample grass. All of the slots are pull-through, but only one site (far end) has easy access to the dumping station/sewer. If it's available, grab it. Clear, unencumbered view of the southern sky for satellite dishes, and plenty of local channels available by OTA antenna. Small walk to downtown. Office is in a restaurant. Both restaurant and office close around noon each day. Very clean, very QUIET, which I loved. Near the schools and a short walk to downtown and bicycle trail. Would definitely stay there again when in the Madison area. We camped at Town Edge Restaurant & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to eat at the Glarner Stube...best restaurant in the Madison area & have a brew at Puempel's. Visit Hoesly's Meats and get some bratwurst/sausage...better than the place downtown. Go to the bakery for apple bread & cream filled horn things. If you bike explore the rustic roads west of town. Toffler's Bar almost always has music on Friday/Saturday nights, but don't forget the other bars in town. And of course no trip to New Glarus is replete without a visit to the brewery.

Small park with great possibilities if they would only do a little tree trimming on the entrance drive. Not very big rig friendly. My motorhome is 12' 6" high and I barely made it in and out without damage. New Glarus is such a nice little destination town and there are no other RV parks or Walmart nearby. Park is older and worn. I did not check out any of the bath facilities if they had any. Hookups are shared between two sites. On a post between the pull-through sites are four 30 amp outlets and four water hose hookups so the RVs pull in head to toe to connect. Water and electric were fine. No cable but got several local channels over the air. A dump station is located in the park. I found a free Wi-Fi that allowed me to connect. Sites are grassy, gravel and level. Grass cutting was OK. Grounds were clean and uncluttered. Park is located behind the Town Edge restaurant which closes at 2 PM. Call the restaurant for reservations. Cash or check, no credit cards. I would have been quite happy at the Town Edge RV Park and given a better rating if they had only done some tree trimming at the entrance. A State Park is located about 1 mile south. I drove through the state park to check it out but sites are suitable for an RV of any size (think tent sites). State park has pit toilets and no hookups and no showers. We camped at Town Edge Restaurant & RV Park in a Motorhome.

As mentioned before, the campground is part of the cafe in town and closes are 2:00 PM. We arrived after this time and took a site, plenty open. Paid for the site the next morning when the cafe opened. Did not use the bathrooms so can not comment on their conditions. Location is great for exploring town, just walk up the street. Brewery has move out of town, up on the hill. During summer months there is a shuttle from down town to the brewery for tours. Would stay again for a night or two. We camped at Town Edge Restaurant & RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park is a mixed bag. Good news first: It's located right in the town of New Glarus, literally within walking distance of the town's historical district and attractions. The bad news: The park is operated by the Town Edge Restaurant and seems to be more or less an afterthought. The 24 sites consist of 12 pull-through lanes long enough for two units. (After the first unit pulls in the second site in the lane is a back-in.) The lanes are extremely narrow, so if the park is full you can't extend slide-outs or awnings. No trees, no picnic tables. It wasn't full when we were there, so it wasn't too bad. The restrooms are a joke. They are located in what appears to have been a small motel. After paying a key deposit you enter a hallway through an exterior door and go to one of two small former bedrooms labeled "men" and "women". The restrooms are tiny bathrooms off these bedrooms, smaller than the bathroom in many RVs! And they weren't very clean when we were there. If you are there at an off-peak period and don't need the campground restrooms, it does have great location, and the folks are friendly. We camped at Town Edge Restaurant & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This park survives solely as a safe, quiet place to park an RV for as many nights you need to explore the beautiful surrounding area. Resting on the outskirts of the American-Swiss community of New Glarus you'll find the park in close proximity to a great deal of south-central Wisconsin's natural and cultural attractions. This includes an excellent Belgian brewery and the Swiss community. The highlight, for us at least, is the Oktoberfest now held in late September. We have camped here both in 2007 and 2008. The "RV Park" is basically a grass lot with moderately functional water and usually stable electrical connections for RVs. At the same time the lot serves as a storage area for a couple of ancient, broken down RVs ranging from a pop-up to a used-up Holiday Rambler. As the name implies the park is mostly an adjunct to a stereotypical breakfast and lunch greasy spoon. Additionally there is a pretty seedy looking motel but I don't think that is in regular operation. The dump station is not always in service. It depends if there has been recent heavy rainfall. If it is closed they recommend using the nearby New Glarus Woods State Park RV camping facilities. Here's a secret, they don't have a dump station, yet. While looking over the state park we were told by the Ranger that next year they were going to build 40 additional electric only RV sites with the usual Wisconsin state park facilities. When they're finished we'll be sure to headquarter our New Glarus excursions in the state park. While some of this review paints a pretty bleak picture I want to emphasize that both times we have stayed here it has been a safe and pleasant place for our friends and us to camp and enjoy the previously described attractions. We will camp here once or twice every year until expanded New Glarus Woods facilities open up. We camped at Town Edge Restaurant & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
