Peaceful, quiet and shaded, yet we were able to get DirecTV reception. There are a few level sites. Pool was closed. Trash was left in the fire pit. Was 5 miles off the interstate so wouldn't recommend it for a single night. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Motorhome.

I contacted the owner of the park a few days prior to our visit. We were looking for another campground that was closer to where we need to be when we visit the area. We camp several times a year, this was not to be a one time visit. The website and my conversation painted a much different picture that the reality. The one restroom was not a restroom but a privy. She told me they clean the restrooms several times a day; the trash was running over in it when we arrive on Monday and was not emptied during our 3 day stay. On Tuesday of our visit we made several trips to the office to purchase ice and wood, there was nobody in the office all day. I tried calling. Contrary to what she had told me on the phone initially the phone is not always answered, we had to drive into town for wood and Ice. Tuesday night there was a bad storm, the park was nearly empty except for the "permanent seasonal" trailers. We ask about late check out to dry out our equipment some, the site was not reserved by anyone, we were charged $10.00 for 3 hour. Early in the morning they made rounds checking on the trailers and roads, the couple of us that were tent camping were on our own. If our road was washed out we may still be there. The features around the park the website talks about are either nonexistent or broken. The snack bar is closed, however she did say if you wanted something she could fix it. They charge $3.00 if you want to swim in the pool. The only positive I can say is the site was large and upon initial check-in she did deliver wood to the site for me. If you are looking for a place to permanently park your trailer this maybe a good option, if not stay away, not only do those in the trailers look down their noses at you, you are not existent to the owners. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Tent.

As far as I'm concerned, I was in heaven the one night we camped here. We have been on the road for 29 days and this was the first night I could sleep with the windows open and not hear trucks on the highway, trains and their horns, or airplanes taking off and landing. It was a night to relax. Our site was huge, and there were no other campers close by. The site was level side to side (OK, we had to use one 1" Lego on the passenger side but to us that's level) and we were fine front to back. It had rained very hard a couple of days ago and several sites were still a little damp, but ours was dry. The water and electric were fine and our roof antenna picked up about 7-8 TV channels. The folks who run this facility are very nice and met us even though the office was closed for the day. We didn't use any of the amenities so I can't comment on those and the pool was closed for the season, but we weren't here to swim. After a 331 mile drive with 20 MPH wind, all I wanted was some peace and quiet and a nice dinner, and that's what I got! If back in the area, there is no question that we would stay here again. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great spot. Close to Sparta's great antique shops, cafes, bars and of course the Elroy Sparta bike trail. The park has some great walking/nature trails that go deep into the woods. Great for a morning walk with the dogs. All the sites are grass and have what might have been gravel pads at one time, but are mostly just grass now. Very well groomed, beautiful grounds. With the morning mist (and a little frost we had) it looked like we were camping on a golf course. Water/Electricity only. We were pretty much the only ones in the park the weekend we were there so it was nice, but the sites look a little tight especially if you are planning on being outside a lot. Staff is incredibly nice. Probably the nicest I've never met while camping. Sites are REALLY REALLY not level. Bring your legos or blocks or whatever. We had to park in a VERY specific spot within our site to be able to use our jacks to level properly (well, close enough anyway). You're on grass/soft ground as well, so your jacks will sink in a bit and you'll get outa whack over night. I felt it was a bit over priced for just water/electricity, and the way they nickle/dime you (based on their website prices, pool use is extra, guests are extra, etc.) you'd think the base price would be a little lower. Anyway, still have it a 9/10 because it really is a great park and super nice people. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Sparta is a cool little town with nice little shops and cafes. I highly recommend taking a stroll through the downtown area as well as hitting some of the outlying areas if you are in to boutique and antique shopping. Really fun stuff. We did not come home empty handed. Of course make sure you get some cycling in. It IS the Cycling Capitol of America!

This is a quite wooded park. The sites are set among the trees and care is needed with low limbs. Picnic tables and fire rings are included. Water pressure is low. WiFi is present but very weak. The down side to this park is unlevel sites and low branches. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is the only campground that is open April 1st. The rate is based on no water as it was still below freezing at night. The owner is exceptionally kind, we pulled in at 1130 at night in a pouring rain storm and endured a snowstorm the next day, she was very concerned we had everything we needed and did turn on a faucet we could fill our tank as weather improved, as we were leaving the next day we didn't bother. If you have a large rig, the dump station could be a challenge although the owner has plans to remove the troublesome trees in the near future. WiFi wasn't working and ATT cell service was non existent until you reach the highway. Basic channels picked up via antenna. Would stay again, great motorcycle riding, Amish country, Sparta bike trail and Great River Rd not far away. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground is 5 miles away from the freeway, thus quiet....HOWEVER:

1. There is no internet access on sites, though advertised. The response..."Come up to the office". Not Acceptable Would not have booked if we had known

2. Some of the sites are NOT level. We tried but could not level ours. The lady who took our reservation and we talked to at the office was very pleasant. We would not stay there again. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Although the park is rated as big rig friendly, caution is advised. Interior roads are in bad shape and sites 16 - 37 would be difficult if there was anyone across from you. This part of the campground is in a rolling field with very uneven sites and trees that make backing in a challenge. The dump station would also be a challenge for a larger rig. The price is a little steep for no sewer. Owner was very friendly. We were here in the middle of the week so it was very quiet. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here in mid week before the Memorial Day rush. It is not far off the highway and you have to drive one farm road to get there which is not bad. The campground was wonderfully quiet. Drawbacks were no cable and no sewer, but a dump station is available but could be hard to go around the circle in a big rig. You could very easily dump and back out then hook up your dinghy which we did in our 38' motorhome. Owners were very friendly and helpful with local info. If you have a dog, there is a good path/road to walk them through the woods. Showers are on a timer but water was hot and they were clean. I would definitely camp here again. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We camped here in June 2008. The campground did not have a beach but it did have a nice clean pool. The pool was a fair temperature (slightly chilly for adults) which is to be expected in Wisconsin in June. The children loved it. Our site was shady with lots of trees available. The playground was average / nice and the children enjoyed it. The restrooms were average. The showers were concrete and OK. I saw them cleaned often with a hose so that made me feel good. The small camp store was helpful. My favorite part was how quiet it was past 10. This is a smaller campground which we enjoyed. We camped at Leon Valley Campground in a Tent Trailer.
