Lovely campground along the Gros Ventre River. First come, first served. We got incredibly lucky & scored the last electric site. Good because it was very hot & then later when it stormed we could cook inside. Staff were friendly. Campground was scenic. Good for biking & walking. Moose in the area by the river. Sites are very small but reasonably well spaced. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

This was our first attempt at camping in a national park. We were kinda scared of not having hook-ups, but we've been cured of that now! The price shown is the non-senior/non-accessible full price. For the convenience of being right in the park, you can't beat the cost. It's located at the south end of Grand Teton NP and about 5 miles off the main road. The trip from the campsite to the visitor's center was less than 15 minutes. Great wildlife viewing just outside the park and the famous Moulton Barn is less than 10 minutes away. We arrived after 6:30 p.m. & had to figure out the whole process without help from the office. We found a site, backed in, then discovered our neighbor had the world's loudest generator that he ran constantly. After dinner and during a stroll around the campground, we found several more sites that would fit our 32' MH. We decided to move to a non-loop site which was much larger, had no neighbors, and backed up to a huge meadow. Since we were using the MH as our touring car, we just stopped at the neat & tidy dump station at the CG entrance & dumped our gray water & refilled the fresh as needed. If you want electric-only hook-ups, they do have one loop that offers them. However, we thought the sites were a bit too cozy. If you want no generator noise at all, they offer a loop for smaller RVs and tents without generator use allowed. This was a great first experience and we're looking forward to booking more off-the-grid sites. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you bring your bicycle, there are trails that parallel most of the main roads. Photography of the mountains is great in the early morning, but remember to shoot some sunsets, too. Our portable solar panel was easy to place and could get full sun almost all day. If you're using a satellite receiver on this site, there is no trees to block the signal.

Jackson is 20 minutes away and Teton Visitor Center is about the same distance. We kayaked String Lake, which was so beautiful! Every year we have seen the "resident" moose and there are always pronghorn in the fields around the campground. Take bikes! The campground is HUGE!

We stayed the first two nights in one of the loops without hookups, then we moved to the one Loop (loop D) that has electric. All are first come first serve and if you want a site with electric be at the registration office when it first opens to get your name on the waiting list. Beautiful campground and it's in a great location to visit all of the Grand Tetons. The road to the campground has many moose visible from the road between about 4:00 pm and 6:00 or 6:30. We had three elk only 3 feet from our camper at 5:00 in the morning, and a moose walked through the campsite around 8:00 am. All sites were back in and several were angled, but not too difficult to park with our 23' travel trailer. I'd camp here again in a NY second. Dump station and water is available across the road near the registration office. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here for the month of September. We really like the Tetons and this is the best campground to explore it from. Yes it's dry camping for $29/night but check the private campgrounds in town and see what they charge. It's insane. This location is much better than in town for exploring the Park. And moose routinely roam through the campground! We were here last year for September as well. They're in the process of repaving the roads and sites so it should be very nice next year. Hope they don't increase the rates! We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

I was so nervous about the first come, first served campground process at Yellowstone. We arrived around 4pm so we paid for one night at a non-electric site. It is a weird process where you drive around and pick an open site and come back to sign up for it. You need to have a list of sites in case someone else is zipping around looking for a site and beats you to it. Then we got up early the next morning and were at the office by 7:40am with a list of electric sites that had our date on the site as their checkout date. Those sites aren't a guarantee - the occupant can always go and add more dates. But we had a list of all of the sites with our date as their checkout and they were listed from favorite to least favorite. Our #2 choice had already left by 8am when the office opened and, since we were first in line, we grabbed that spot. Behind our site was the river and we walked to it two different afternoons. There are no showers. We drove to Climbers Ranch for a shower. It was about a 35 minute drive. $5 per person for a shower. The shower curtains were white and nearly transparent and once wet they were practically clear. Luckily there were only two other ladies in the small bathroom but I was still a little uncomfortable being on display while I took a shower. We decided not to do that again and took super quick showers in the RV. That did mean we needed to dump more often. As other reviewers have said, the lines can be long. But everyone is pretty mellow - you are on vacation after all! We saw a Moose in our campground's inner loop one morning. She was resting in the grass and after an hour or so she was up and eating heading our way! That was really neat. There is also a mom Moose and two babies just up the road heading toward Jackson - if there are a lot of cars pulled over, you know they are visible. I had NO T-Mobile and my husband had NO Verizon. You are in a dead zone! We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

Hands down our favorite campground of the trip. Loop C is beautiful -- sagebrush punctuated by cottonwoods with the Gros Ventre river flowing by. And Loop C is freshly paved in its entirety, which we appreciate because it cuts down on the dust. It also rained while we were there so that helped too. Caught cutthroat trout and grilled them over the fire for dinner. Beautiful, fragrant, lovely campsite. We had no hookups, no electric, no water, no sewer, no showers, no problem. We ran the generator for about an hour each evening to keep the batteries charged. The few electric sites are away from the river. We prefer the outer loop closest to the river. Our request at the gate was, "a campsite big enough for a 35 foot fifth wheel. My husband loves to fish so as close to the river as possible". And that's exactly what they gave us. Perfect! Wheezy old flush toilets in the restrooms and a sink. Dump on the way out. Get up early -- 300 plus campers and one dump station. Don't care! The setting and the river make up for it. We "bathed" in the river each night. Hiked each day. VIsited Jackson a couple of times to poke around and have a meal. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

Grandson rode his bike everywhere and attended a ranger talk. The river was up and rushing in early July. By August, it should be down somewhat and very user-friendly.

The park is beautiful and rustic as a campground should be. There are wildflowers all around. I would give the park a perfect 10 but there are a few things (cleanliness of bathrooms, working sinks, ease of check in, dump facilities) that could be improved. There are no full hookups available at this park. They do have electric sites, but they are difficult to obtain. We were able to get an electric site because we traveled with our parents who arrived days before us. They got in line for the electric sites at 7am. Moose and other wildlife frequented the campground. Moose frequent the campground. Be watchful. Ranger talks were excellent! Drive Moose/Wilson road for wildlife viewing. We stayed for 5 days. Be aware of possible lines of folks waiting to dump or get fresh water at the entrance area. A bargain campground in the Jackson area. There was paving in process when we arrived but it appears to be completed. The nearby restroom was easily accessible and well maintained. We saw 2 moose in the south section - F loop. The campground was never full during our time, but the town of Jackson was full of visitors. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We attended ranger evening programs on bison, the Gros Ventre landslide (3 miles X 1/2 mile) and bats. We visited the slide area, a short drive to the east of the campground. There are many places to view the Tetons and the view changes with the weather and time of day. We observed bison, pronghorn antelope, moose and birds. During our stay we experienced sun, rain and hail. We ate at Bubba's Barbecue in Jackson west of downtown - great food and parking.

Great location for exploring Grand Teton as well as Jackson. We were there the second week in May and loops B, C, and D were closed for regrading and repaving. Not sure how long that will take but may impact those coming in early summer. Verizon LTE was great. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

The campground is close to Jackson, Moose and all of the activities that the area offers. It is heavily treed and moose saunter around the campground on occasion. We stayed in Loop C as we didn't need the electric hookup. This loop offers sites that are spacious with lots of space and trees in between. We can see the river and the moose from our motorhome. It's beautiful here. We enjoyed it and will return. For less than $30 a night in a tourist destination I believe we got more than our monies worth for the week that we stayed. The only big con is the inability to fill up with water or use the dump station in a timely manner. There always seems to be a line. There needs to be more water fill stations. And another con is the state of the roads - lots of potholes and the friendliness of the folks in the office could be better. I'm sure it's not easy to deal with people frustrated with finding no spots available but really they need to take a deep breath. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Even though this is dry camping you have to take into consideration you're inside the National Park. Everything outside the park and in town is amazingly expensive. Being inside the park has tremendous advantages if you're into wildlife viewing or photography. Location is everything. We had moose walking through the campground on an almost daily basis. The proximity for sunrise photo shoots versus driving in from Jackson is a huge advantage. The value for the location is very good. It is spartan however. If you need lots of amenities then this probably isn't for you. We stayed here three weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it. The final week we moved to the electric sites as it was getting pretty cold at night. Not many sites for 40'+ rigs but we managed. Verizon signal was ok but data throughput was pretty slow. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

This is a National Park Campground, run by Grand Teton Lodge Co. They have left the campground in its natural state - trees and sagebrush. Interior paved roads are fairly rough, with some potholes. Gravel sites are fairly level, with plenty of room between sites. A great campground to walk my dogs. There are restrooms and a dump station, but no showers. There are a few electric sites, but no sites are reservable. We were told in order to get an electric site, "show up at 8 a.m.; maybe someone will be leaving." We would stay again; we'll just plan on running our generator. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a hard park to rate, we stayed in non-electric sites with no hook-ups. There is lots of space between sites. The interior roads are badly beat up and there is a lot of differed maintenance. The location of the park is good. We where on a busy road which took away from the enjoyment. Moose where common as they wondered thru the park. We thought that in the middle on Sept it would not be filled but the CG was full every night. It was the busiest I have seen the Grand Tetons. Next time we will plan ahead and try to get hook-ups at Coulter Bay. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

This is a rustic campground. If you want full hookups, level, concrete pads, and showers you won't like it. We prefer lots of space, good views, and we don't mind gravel so we really like it. The electric sites are much more expensive than the dry camping sites, so we rely on solar with a bit of backup from the generator on rainy days. There are shady spots, but with the solar we prefer the sunny ones, and there are many. This campground does occasionally fill up, but not often. We have stayed her multiple times for a week at a time, and we still keep coming back. The staff is sometimes gruff, but they are helpful. The site we had this time was particularly large, a nice bonus. We camped at Gros Ventre Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.
