Overall Rating:

As pre-coordinated we had the choice of three sites. We ended up going into pull-through site 24, which was FHUs, but only 30 AMP (and it was a weak 30 AMP). There were 50 AMP sites, but we would not have been able to put our slides out in those sites. Check in was self service by going over to the office/laundry/shower/restroom building. We have been coming to the Newcastle area for 5 years to hunt and stayed at the adjacent hotel not seeing more than a few rigs in the park. However, this year, there were transient workers so the campground was pretty much full. Pull through sites were very close together but fairly level as this campground was once an outdoor movie theater, and when the park was originally built, slide outs were not a popular feature. However, there was plenty of room to park your vehicles in front or back. Sites vary from electric only, electric and water, and full hook ups varying between 50 and 30 AMP. The low numbered back in sites have more room between sites, but not all of them are full hookups. There was also a very-nice large grassy tent camping area. There is a simple website page, but the phone number has changed to 307-746-5057 as the campground is under new ownership. There were large areas to walk your dog. There were signs to clean up after your dog that were pretty much ignored as there was no onsite camp host to police. There was no WiFi nor cable here and we only got 2 to 3 bars on Verizon. There were a few picnic tables around the campground that you could grab if not being used. New management seems to be trying to improve the park. As we will come to the area again to hunt, we will probably stay here based on other available options. We camped at Crystal Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Take a hike along nearby Serenity Trail. Newcastle has two grocery stores plus restaurants, hardware, etc. available. There are some nice little mom-n-pop shops along the main street. Donna's Diner is a good place for breakfast and/or lunch.
