Beautiful campground, exceptional scenery! No hookups but worth it. Unusual site configuration with side by side sites sharing a partitioned cabana. We had no neighbor so had plenty of space. Campground host stated that it was unusual to actually have two campers next to each other. Quiet, peaceful, windy at times. Paved roads all the way from interstate into campground. Loved this place and will return! We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

The only reason we rated it a 5 is due to maneuverability if you are towing a trailer. The park is serene and beautiful. We will return, but only a few sites can accommodate our 35 ft 5th wheel. We reserved a site and could get in, but since it shares a driveway, we needed to stay to one side making it impossible for us to put out the slide and steps (tree). Luckily a double site was available (hence the $40) with a spectacular view. The park is off the beaten path and very suitable for tents or small trailers. The host was very nice and helpful. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

High desert campground at 6100 feet 13 miles down a paved winding road off 191. The town of Rock Springs was a great place to stock up on all your supplies. Campground is located on the beautiful Flaming Gorge reservoir overlooking cliffs and the desert plateaus. Life abounds with pronghorn antelope, mule deer, jackrabbits, chipmunks. (they enjoyed the fruits of the Russian olive trees that shaded some of the campsites), and all kinds of birds. We even had seagulls and white pelicans to remind us of home. There is a convenient dump station and potable water fill at the entrance. Water spigots were located around the circle. Campsites are a bit odd in that they share the same alphalt gravel driveway and have a covered picnic table on opposite sides of the shelter at each site (with the exception of the marked double sites). Each 1/2 has it's own in ground fire ring. Everyone here at this time enjoyed their own double space....it would not be good to share if the campgound was crowded. Parking toads and awnings could present a problem. We are 35' and 13' high so we had to manuever around the picnic shelter roof to get into our chosen site. Two older bathrooms with solar heated showers are at each end of the campground. A really nice updated boatramp was over the hill. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Off road dirt vehicles can have a blast here with lots of off road trails. A local told us of the 35 mile canyon rim trail...The star show was pretty awesome after sundown. We launched our kayaks from the beach and caught trout on spinners. I flogged the water for the carp I was seeing to no avail with my fly rod...Alas, we also gathered a garbage bag full of plastic and trash from one of the canyon beaches.

We are saddened by one fact - we may never find a campsite more beautiful than Firehole Canyon. Neither words nor pictures can describe how gorgeous this place is! We took photo after photo and still did not feel like we captured the magic of the surroundings. While a bit off the beaten path the campground is easy to find, the roads paved and well-marked, the hills and valleys manageable. We were uncertain if our 36' Class A would have difficulty traversing the route but it was no issue at all. We were greeted by the camp host and he was very helpful and welcoming. Our site was reasonably level and nicely equipped with a fire ring and a small shelter which included a picnic table. There is a dump station and potable water at the entrance to the campground. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

Watch for the wildlife and the herds of cows on the way in and out! We had to stop several times for cows in the roadway.

A bit of a drive to get to this park but well worth it. Nicely spaced, open sites with sheltered concrete picnic tables. The Camp Host greeted us like family. The views were extraordinary. Water is available though not at your site and there is a dump station. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

This park is wonderful! A little out of the way but if you want to relax in a quite area, this is the place. It is beautiful to look at all the way around. I had read that it was hard to find. We didn't have a problem. Just 12 miles off the 1-91 and it is clearly marked. It is windy, perhaps that is just this time of the year. We did not use it, but there outside areas in every camp site that are covered. We saw all kinds of families using their patio areas.

Camp Host was friendly.....the whole experience was wonderful and we would come back again. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

High rating for the wonderful views. The views make it worth the long trip into the park. Really good gravel pads. Sunrise and sunset are absolutely unbelievable. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

As other reviews have noted, this place is a ways of the Interstate but the roads are paved and in good condition. It is a beautiful location and a great place to just enjoy the peace and quiet, or to do some fishing and hiking. All of the sites are back-ins and have covered ramadas with tables. Some are double except as signed you pay only a single fee for them. There are no hookups but water is available and there is a dump station. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. We will camp here again when in the area. The rate reflects our Golden Age discount. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

Interesting park to stay overnight. Need to drive 10 miles to get to park. Scenery is nice. Unfortunately, we had a camper who ran his generator for 2 hours and it ruined the peacefulness of the evening. Restrooms not very clean and garbage containers were full. No camping hosts to be seen. Probably would not stay again unless you like boon docking. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Nice campground, host are very friendly. One of the cleanest restrooms/showers I've ever been in. 13 1/2 miles off of I-80 you turn and drive another 9 miles. Worth the drive. Use the website directions, not Google. Not all sites looked level, but the one we backed into was, once I backed up to the wheel chocks. Campground Hosts are replenishing the picnic tables, very nice, each has it's own shelter. Might be a little tight when two guest are staying side by side at each shelter. Ours was empty. RV Dump Station was very clean with running water. I did notice there was a "Grey" waste grate within about 30 ft of our site. Also water is available in a few places but you'll need a water bandit. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Travel Trailer.

All things considered this campground rates a 10. Fifty miles from nowhere. Self service check-in. Water located within 100 ft of site. Grey water dump within 100 ft. No phone or TV service. Paved wide sites. Most were level. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

This is a nice alternative to the miserable camping ghettos available along I-80. It is about 10 miles South of I-80 on Hwy 191 and then 5 miles West on a poorly signed, but paved road in Firehole Canyon. Sites are oddly arranged - two camping units share a wide driveway and combined ramadas (just about the only shade in the area). It's not bad when the CG is not busy but would be very cozy when full. No hookups, but a dump station and potable water are available. Restrooms have flush toilets and there are hot showers as well. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Feel like this is (or was) the best kept secret in SW Wyoming. Secluded, scenic desert hill campground south of Rock Springs off hwy 191 where you can actually hear the sounds of jumping fish and wild coyotes. Excellent roads, shaded tables, swimming beach, boaters' paradise, tremendous scenery! We beat the heat by arriving at dinnertime making it the perfect overnighter, and were in our sleeping bags that evening (desert cool temperatures). Only drawbacks were needing a generator if you require electric (not in our case) and park sorely needing a trash pickup as we arrived after the weekend. We reserved online, but you'll have to work a little to find the website for Ashley Forest Firehole Canyon as I didn't have it on hand when I posted. There may be a dump station but don't quote me on this, I would check first with the park rangers. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Tent Trailer.
