Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park quite a few times and probably will continue to do so, however there are issues that should be addressed by the owners. Their biggest issue is the trees. Normally trees in a campground are good, but they are so plentiful and overgrown that it is a MAJOR problem for many drivers trying to maneuver around them. I would guess that at least 50% of them could be removed and still have nice shaded spots. The trunks and limbs grossly intrude into many, many spaces and interfere with entry/exit, slide-outs and antennas. Our second complaint is their wi-fi. The signal has improved over the years, but only the first 30 minutes per 24-hour stay is free. After that you pay through a contractor (Tengo) with a credit card on-line. Now for the good.... Their office staff are efficient and pleasant. The laundry room is updated, spacious, and reasonably priced. Several years ago, I suggested on this website that they install a surface for folding laundry and the next time we visited, there was a folding table. Their utility hook-ups and cable are reliable. We never use the 50-amp service because there is never a need for the 2d air conditioner. If you can deal with the trees and their limbs this is a good place to stay. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to visit the SS Klondike and the Berengia Interpretive Center. If you like beer, visit the Yukon Brewing Co brewery. The Wal-Mart is terrible--skip it and go to the Real Canadian Superstore. We discovered two years ago that if you are visiting from "out of province" you can go to the visitor's center and get a parking permit so you do not have to feed the meters on the street.

Stayed here a total of 3 nights, on 2 trips. Both sites were close to the South Access Road. Very loud as it seems to be a local drag strip and lots of engine brakes from heavy trucks. Bathrooms in Mens room are dated. Possibly old trailer from a work camp. There was mold on the ceiling around the showers and 2 of the 3 shower rooms had holes in the floor where a floor drain once was. Be careful not to fall through! Girlfriend said female bathrooms were tidy and clean. Laundry facilities were very nice and the main building was very clean and had lots of fun souvenirs. Very convenient to town and to the Alaska Highway. All services were at pull through site. WIFI was 30 minutes per device every 24 hours. Or pay more. Good for email checking. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

First and foremost this park IS NOT BIG RIG FRIENDLY!!! Period It was built before the days of the mega fifth wheels and 40' plus pushers with multiple slides Some spaces may be long enough but not close to wide enough The space we were in was a "Pull Through" but because of the number of trees IN THE SITE we could neither open our kitchen and living room slides nor could we pull through to leave in the morning Our "Pull Through" was suddenly a "Back Out" The fire ring and picnic table were in a low spot that was a puddle about 15' across making them unusable The park roads are tight with tight turns and MANY corners with trees and bushes that should either be cut out or at least heavily trimmed and pruned Most sites have trees or bushes planted at the corners of the entrance and exits which makes for VERY tight turns into and out of the site Roads that are wide enough have low hanging branches that sometimes can't be avoided The tight spaces meant lots of tow and towed vehicles sticking out into the roads making navigating out of the park even harder Trees and greenery are nice but not at the expense of a scratched up coach Smaller tow behinds, simple Class C rigs, and even small Class A's will do ok but if you truly have a big rig I suggest you look elsewhere The park is clean, the people are friendly, the utilities are adequate but as I said before IT IS NOT BIG RIG FRIENDLY!!! We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We've stayed 4 different times at this park over the last 2 years - 2 nights each visit. This year we had FHU back-in site 96 in July, and FHU pull-through site 85 in August. Both sites were fine, but 85 is more spacious, and was plenty long for our 38' MH plus toad. The 80's row alternates utility locations so your picnic table is not next to your neighbors sewer hose. Upon departure, we did not have enough room to exit the the site with toad attached, so we hitched up near exit where there's plenty of room. While leaving, we went around the dump using the lane next to the office as the other lane was occupied. The branches on the trees next to the office need trimming as they hit the antennas on my WiFI extender. Check in was easy, and staff is friendly and helpful. Road are a bit tight but navigable. Water pressure was average. Wifi was slow but average for that part of the world. Site was gravel and level. No satellite coverage due to trees. Cable TV was ok - a few channels that came in relatively clear. Pet friendly but no enclosed dog park. We've enjoyed each of our stays at this park and we would return if we are in the area again. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't miss Miles Canyon. Fish Ladder interesting, but chances of seeing a salmon are low. SS Klondike very interesting. Walk along river near Rotary Park is lovely. Awesome coffee from Midnight Sun. Klondike Rib & Salmon is touristy - food is ok. Winterlong Brewery is fantastic.

We were looking for a place to stay in or near Whitehorse to allow provisioning and visit the city. We're self contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed 3 weeknights in late May in our 8 meter (25 foot) motor home. This is a large CG 3 km (2 miles) from downtown Whitehorse. It has over 100 sites. Most are relatively small - the people in the registration area assign sites based on size of rig and requested hookups. Sites have level gravel parking pads and most have some trees and bushes between sites, the back in sites more so than the pull throughs. The utilities worked well. The showers were clean with ample hot water. The 24-hour laundry facilities were modern, clean and worked well. The coin op RV wash worked well and was bonus. WiFi was not usable. There was a weak ATT signal roaming on Telus and weak Verizon roaming on Bell with a booster. Also, dump station with rinse and potable water in the CG. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Motorhome.

Traveled all day from Watson Lake with no reservations, late May. We had no trouble with showing up to find plenty of room. Easy pull thru with full hook ups including cable. We did not use wifi because it was pretty slow. Verizon worked well but US restrictions make it short lived. Convenient rv/car wash area. Great location to drive into Whitehorse. Nice hike out the back. We stayed 5 days and enjoyed the time. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

On our way here we called, the day before, to confirm our reservation and site selection, okay. When we arrived the following day the clerk said our site was NOT available...they thought we were coming last night. The only site available was a 20A, drive-thru, which turned out to be tight. There is a coin-op wash rack, high pressure water, no soap. This is a busy, busy CG, high turn-over, and we won't be coming back. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Good utilities, but sites are tight for bigger rigs. Seems the kid that works the office does not know site lengths and widths, so make sure you quiz them if you have a larger rig. We just barely fit, saw a couple of rigs go down the street because they were given too small a site, while small campers were taking up the larger sites. Roads need gravel as there are potholes and dirt (mud and/or dust). WiFi is pretty useless, better to bring your own. Cable is not very good, most channels were hung and the ones that worked were very snowy. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Motorhome.

Generally level gravel sites packed tightly together under the trees. Way too tight for big rigs to maneuver easily, and big rig sites are limited. Our site 46 had only 20 amp and water; no sewer, no cable, but nicely shaded under pine trees. Our guided back-in maneuvers in the tight space garnered applause from neighbors. Free WiFi at the office for most, but since this site was directly under the tower, we had WiFi here (access time is limited, though it doesn't say that -- if you access on arrival day, you won't get it until after 1100 the next day, which is after check-out time). Laundry washers take loonies; dryers take quarters (Canadian). Very nice gift shop. Coffee shop only open until noon. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is the first negative review I I have written about a park. We politely, quietly reported and objected to an electrical problem with our site. We had been given site 68. We have a 50 amp cord and plug. This CG had 30 amp services. Several big rigs around us had similar cords also using a surge guard and an adapter. Their connections were OK. The 30 amp receptacle was too loose. It would also arc when he tried to get our adapter to fit properly. A man we assumed to be the owner brought out an adapter of his own which also did not properly fit the outlet. He told DH that it was our fault as our cord, surge guard and adapter combination was too heavy. He told DH to use a bungee cord to hold the electrical plug in the outlet then he walked away saying that he had to go somewhere. DH used a plastic clamp to hold the plug in place as a bungee would not have fit around the box. When he got the connection to hold our surge guard gave the message that the L1 and the neutral were reversed. This means that the outlet was not properly grounded and unsafe to use. DH reported this info to the office. They told him to try another site in the 80s. That particular site also gave the L1 & negative reversed message. DH tried the empty site next to us which checked out OK so he asked whether we might move to that site. The owner came back and instructed DH not to touch any of his sites. That if we did not keep the defective site we had then we had to leave. I pointed out that there were other RVs using identical equipment to our own with no problems. He told us that since he could not make us happy that we had to leave the CG. He would give us a refund. I quietly mentioned that I would have to write some reviews about this treatment but he just shrugged. He also told us to go to a certain rv park down the street. Instead we went to a different park which has good reviews. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Well-treed gravel sites, some pull-through some back-in. Our site was side-to-side off-level by a degree or two, had power and cable TV connections at front of site requiring extensions, and picnic table on utility side (not door side) of site. Most sites seemed more-appropriately configured. Verizon was OK. Wifi is free for 30 minutes per day, then you're logged off and cannot log in again without making a credit card payment, which I consider unsafe over an unsecured wifi connection. Nice gift shop. Friendly staff. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Yukon Berengia Interpretive Center is well worth visiting, with exhibits and video. There is a paved walking trail at the south end of downtown, with falcons and bald eagles fishing in the river. The visitor information center downtown is helpful with free wifi and a good video. These are all driving-distance, not walking-distance from the RV park.

Advertise that they have cable but you have to pay an additional $9.00 for it which we did. Got all settled and tried the cable and you got 2 channels, one was so fuzzy you could see it and the other one was static and fuzzy. Tried to get my $9.00 back but they wanted us to move to a different site which we didn't want to do. They also advertise that they have wifi but you get 30 minutes and then they want to charge you for it. Was very unhappy and we won't stay here again.
