Time for some new year fun. Okay, I know this will probably cause some trouble but I have to ask this question to see what the percentages are for the answers given. How do you pronounce the capital of Kentucky? Is it pronounced...............
    1. Lewisville
    2. Looiville
    3. Looeeville

Those of you that reside in Kentucky are not asked to answer as many of you no doubt already know the answer and that would not be fair. No fair checking Wikipedia for the correct way as that would be cheating. After a dozen or so or maybe even as little as a half dozen answers are given I will chime in once again and give the correct pronunciation according to the state's way of pronouncing it.....

Take your best shot and see if you are one of the correct ones.........???

I'm gonna say it's none of these. I think it is looeyvul with the accent on loo.

It's pronounced Loovuhl (2 syllables), emphasis on the 1st syllable.

I can guess without even guessing that there are a lot of Kentuckians out there laughing their rear ends off right about now as they all know the correct answer. Perhaps Texasrvers or leaf peeper already has.............

"Loo-uh-vol" is how I've always pronounced it after being corrected a number of times by native Kentuckians.

I'll go along with either of these. And FYI, I have never set foot in Kentucky. I learned the loo-vul pronunciation form a friend of ours who was an airline pilot who flew there on a regular basis. The "ey" in my pronunciation comes from my Texas accent. I try to go light on that part when I actually pronounce it.

I probably should have included that there might possibly be another way to pronounce the capital of Kentucky so I'll leave that possibility open if anyone else cares to tell us how it might be pronounced. Once again no Kentuckians allowed to tell everyone how it is correctly pronounced. Keep those responses coming, this is getting to be lots of fun for me.............:D

I'll add to the fun. How do you think these Texas cities are pronounced?

    1. Mexia
    2. Bexar (actually this is a county)
    3. Gruene

I should probably not respond to the above post by Texasrvers due to the fact that I was married to a gal from Texas for many years and made many trips to this great state. But what the heck, I will go ahead anyway and show off a tad. Don't get upset with me Texasrvers for coming up with the correct answers, okay.........

    Mexia, Texas is Muyhayuh
Bexar County, Texas is Bear or Bare
Gruene, Texas is Green. Brits would say Greene........:D

I was going to let this one drag on a while longer but judging by the responses so far it has become readily apparent that nobody other than real Kentuckians know how to pronounce the "CAPITAL" of Kentucky. I got a special laugh out of Posts #3, 5, and 6, all of which sounded like they knew their stuff, but unfortunately didn't. Okay I know everyone is waiting to learn the correct pronunciation for the "CAPITAL" of Kentucky so here it is................. FRANKFORT.............:p.........:D

Got to have some fun at times, BankShot...............(aka Terry)

Ok Bankshot's question leads to another question. "Who is really buried in Grant's tomb?"

Aw shucks, I made that too easy for you unlike your sneaky pronunciation of the capital of Kentucky. :)

Don't feel too bad Lori, a few others got had on that one also. I did also years ago. I would have to say that probably 95 out of 100 folks I've pulled it on didn't realize that Louisville is not the capital. What I got a big kick out of was Dutch's post "Loo-uh-vol" is how I've always pronounced it after being corrected a number of times by native Kentuckians". Sad when native Kentuckians don't know the capital of their own state and then correct Dutch on the correct pronunciation of the wrong city...............:D How about that Dutch, how does that set with you?.............:p

Thanks everyone for allowing me some new year's fun, BankShot............(aka Joe Bofongello)

PS: I just realized that in all probability those native Kentuckians weren't being asked how to pronounce the capital of their state in the manner I asked it so I am no doubt mistaken in how I interpreted Dutch's statement above...............I think......
