We are wanting to take our kids camping the 30th - 2nd or 3rd. We don't want to go too far, but would love to find a great campground within 5-6 hours of Nashville that has a lot of stuff for kids (either the campground or area) and warmer temps than 30/40's. :)

Any suggestions in Georgia or Alabama that you would suggest that would be open this time of year?

    Thanks!

Oak Mountain State Park in Birmingham isn't too bad - not the best campsites (some are a little crowded), but lots to do for the kids depending on their age. Oak Mtn is a large park. Archery, horseback riding, miles & miles of trails - both hiking and biking, a BMX track, a remote controlled car track, fishing, canoeing, a full golf course (not putt-putt). There is a beach but too cool for that. Very good nature trail which has a great display of birds of prey in the area (live). The B loop (newer) is the better loop. The A area is more crowded/unlevel. There's a zipline canopy tour at Red Mountain Park close by. If it rains, there is a science museum in Birmingham that's good (McWane Center) and a trampoline park not too far. RVPR rating = 7.1

Two hours south is Wind Creek State Park - much larger park and more expensive. Fishing, trails, zipline canopy tour. A pretty good park, but not as much to do for the kids. RVPR rating = 8.4

Check them both out on the website: https://www.alapark.com/parks

If you're really looking for a park that celebrates/decorates the holidays, Honeycomb Campground near Guntersville is the place. Always a lot of kids there. Not a State Park, but still a fair number of things to do for the kids. You'll have to call them, they don't have reservations available on the website. Look at the map on the website - sites 46-84 are the best, then 32-41 second best. Honeycomb is a smaller park, but still has fishing, kayaking, hiking trails, etc. RVPR rating = 8.8 https://camprrm.com/parks/honeycomb-campground/

If I had the time I would head to the Smokeys from where you sit. Dollywood at Christmas time is spectacular, and there are tons of great campgrounds in the area with loads of activities. It will likely be a little more crowded than what you might be looking for though, and could be cold, but is usually pretty nice during the day in the valleys.
